  • Update 3 covers the work I have done on the bridge/tunnel and retaining wall. I've also added a good length running session in there too, with some new camera angles. Enjoy.

    Dave, your videos are an absolute joy to watch. The way you explain and describe things makes it so easy for the novice to follow. Simple explanations, yet still very informative. Your enthusiasm just pours out in your commentary . And on top of all that, your layout looks fantastic. Look forward to more video posts

    Dave, your layout and your efforts are SUPERB! I can't get enough of what you and other modelers create in the UK as I became hooked on the genius recreations you gentlemen display years ago now. That backdrop is the best I've seen and with that perfect lighting, one would be hard pressed to tell if the scenes are real or not. Amazing creativity, and I thank you and your fellow modelers for the very fine work that you do. THANK YOU! Cheers from NYC and this time of the year, Orlando Florida!

      hi, thanks Mark, i'm glad you are enjoying it in sunny Florida. I do like the backscenes, they really bring the scene to life. Thanks again, I really appreciate you taking the time to get in touch and I hope you continue enjoying what I do...There's lots more to build! Dave

    Whilst I was sitting here watching the running session in the production Dave, it struck me, that Layouts similar to yours can only be seen at Shows, and rarely to this standard. Most are built by a team of club members, using their respective talents. and yet you've done everything on Dean Park yourself, which is a truly remarkable achievement....Quite amazing...Best wishes...Bob

    Hello Dave,I have been following your progress from day one,very impressed indeed.As i do with Jenny Kirk/Everarad Junction.,,,A great deal of knowledge ideals,for my own layout,very rare that a female takes up such a hobby.....Time consuming i must agree,but so well worth with the end results.even if its a small part,have read the reviews within the Magazine and Everarad Junction.I many do all Southern Region of the late 50's,early,60's like Hayling Island,Class A1x Terriers.(good video of the line running from Havant to Hayling),closed down in 1963....Mostly all steam,i do,Golden Arrow,(merchant navy/bullied/pacific/,)If you can obtain the recent issue of Hornby February 2017,page 29/32 your see my William Shakespear and my round house. Then read from pages 70 on wards.But i prefer to run my 35028.all 6 wheeled rakes,10 in all..Aruther/Nelson & Schools class's.Even the Brighton Pullman From Victoria Brown and Cream rake,Why you may ask.My father was the Driver on that and the Golden Arrow,all shed within Stewarts Lane.Even my Brother was a fireman from Waterloo running the Bournemouth Belle,but i must admit i have a few A,4's LNER/LMS,Silver Jublie full set/Scotsmans/Cornation..To conclude its taken myself to obtain the a kit to build the Bridge over the River kwai film made in 1957 took years to track one down in mint condition.limited addition every produced at the time of production. Why you may ask.My Grandfather was a P.O,W,So i will build a small diorama only out of respect to my grandfather,He would never ever talk about it.My father told me when i was when i was much older.Sorry to go on,,Best Regards keep up the good work,,,,,Carol

  • @kingswoodjunction897
    @kingswoodjunction897 Před 7 lety

    Good work Dave.
    I personally wouldn't go with the efflorescence. That tends to be a feature on new brickwork. I'd do what I did with my platform edges and use torn make up wedges dabbed in dark brown /black paint and lightly dab on to the brickwork as randomly as you can.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety

      H, I saw a photos of really stained streaky white stains on an old retaining wall....I wont be going over the score with it anyway, just inside the tunnel....and it will be toned down and subtle (I like subtle! lol). You've given me an interesting technique...I hope you kept some of the wedges to apply your foundation and eye shadow? lol. I will check out your platforms. Dave

  • @daviemaclean61
    @daviemaclean61 Před 7 lety

    Great update Dave. With regards to the lime running out of the mortar, I don't think you can really get it wrong. It will be heavier where more water is running through the wall and lighter where it isn't. My local main station has four tunnels under it (some road, some pedestrian) and there are parts where the lime is like Mother Shipton's cave! A few bits of buddleia and some graffiti in the fullness of time too! ;-) Sacrilege on your new pristine wall I know.
    As a matter of interest (and nosiness!) how many locos do you have now? My brother in law is an addict and well over the 100, and, for a shunting layout I have way too many!
    Another great update and progress is progress, no matter how slow it sometimes seems. Cheers

  • @matthewsnowdenshunterguy3352

    Great work as always! Hav u seen the latest BRM with the Scotrail Inspection Saloon project? That would look absolutely brilliant on ur layout! A must

  • @sub39h
    @sub39h Před 7 lety

    Great update as always. I had a piece of constructive criticism. The quality of your work is amazing so I hope you don't take it the wrong way. As great as the brick wall looks I think it looks a little dull as just an expanse of brick. Maybe if the ridge at the level of the upper baseboard was stone colour it might break it up a bit more? Similarly with the tunnel entrance I think it might look better with some steel girder over the top rather than brick.
    Love the running session and the new locos. Keep up the good work!

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety

      Hi, thanks for that suggestion. I don't take comments or constructive criticism the wrong way, I use it to improve what I do. About the girder...I had a girder right next to it at the station, so wanted to change, and as for the brick expanse, I will have stone capping stones on top to break it up a little....but again I wanted something a bit different and I have stone ridges on the walling at the station, so wanted to vary it, so it wasn't just the same design as the station retaining wall. Believe me, a lot of different designs were looked at, tried and pondered, but if I had kept trying new ones I wouldn't have got anything done! lol. When its got all the undergrowth, weeds, etc around the wall it will blend in, its still very stark as its all on its own just now. Cheers for getting in touch. Dave

    Great update, wall looks really good, super running session, what are your plans for the open area in front of the retaining walls?

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety

      I will put a raised section in and have an embankment going down to the lower rails, making it look like its in a cutting. Then on top of the raised section I will put an industrial scene/post office depot (to tie in with my parcels rolling stock and red star parcels depot at the station?! That's the plan!

    Hi Dave - Great video as always, thanks for sharing. Is the 50 a new addition? I don't remember seeing it before….
    Are you planning on allowing the local "yute" to graffiti up any of your new walls? It always seems to break up large expanses of brick and adds a bit of realism (whether we like it or not!)

    Hi Dave, sorry to bother you again mate when fitting a point do the point blades have to be in a central position before connecting the wires up ? Cheers jack.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety

      When I am fitting the motor and screwing it to the baseboard underneath the point I make sure the point motor and blades are in a central position. You can go this by putting thin bits of card at each side of the point blades to keep them at the central position. Then from under the basebaord screw the point in place making sure the point is in the central position....I sometime hold the point pin in the middle with a big blob of blue tac....hope this makes some sense? Dave

      Hi, Check out my other January and also my December Updates where I cover this in a bit more detail. It was 2mm MDF with plasticard glued on using Deluxe Roket Rapid (and lots of it!!). Then painted. The MDF needs a frame at the back of it to keep it rigid and true. Again, this is covered in my other recent updates. Thanks for getting in touch, I hope this helps.

    Hi Dave on a completely different subject I'm just starting to lay my track it will be Dcc with peco electofrog points with seep pm1 point motors I know how to wire them up my problem is the insulating fish plates I know I have to put them on the centre part of the frog but I don't know when to use them or not use them on the outside of the point if I'm connecting to flexible track or another point this is were I'm confused I hope you help me out as it is holding me back cheers jack.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety

      yeah insulated fishplates on the inside "frog" part of the tail of the points (the end with the 4 rails!). if you are points pointing each other then the unsulating fishplates will be fitted to both turnouts at the frog. So points facing each other would have 4 insulated fishplates fitted (2 on each point). If the point is just leading into a straight piece of track (flexi or not) then just put insulating plates on the frog of the point. I used to get very confused too, but trust me, it gets easier! once you get into the working habit, it becomes second nature! (but we all still make mistakes! lol). Hope this helps? I did a video ages ago, on how to wire up a point. that may help. Dave
