The best advice I could give someone who is starting to keep bees is,,, don't believe everything everyone else says bees will do... Keep that in the back of your mind, and let the bees tell you what they will do... Remember.. They are all about populating the earth with bees, and will do some pretty weird stuff (According to the bee books), that makes perfect sense,, if you think about it from the Bees Perspective... If you have multiple hives, leave some empty and mark each of your queens separate colors and make notes which box they are in... One year,, try to raise more bees, next year, go after more honey... The result of those two years is what taught me the most.. Easiest to give them plenty of supers and plenty of room to gather plenty of honey, and you will reduce many of your problems with Swarming, etc... Let them run out of room or resources, and you will fight to keep them... I had this box that swarmed move in on me while I was not keeping bees, and I just let them go on their own.. Gave them plenty of space to gather honey.. They filled everything up and swarmed.. You can tell they were a boombing hive,, all by themselves... I put them in another box, and put several extra supers on them and let them go again.. I do nothing with them during the winter and they have survived several years.. I don't even reduce the entrance for the winter... I wish I had more time to fool with them, but, I run a business, and this Government is paying people to stay home, more than I can pay them to work, so, another year they are on their own... I see a very bad flu season coming this fall.. They will blame it on something else, and won't pin it down to those taking the jabs, but, that will be the ones having the problems.. I guess we are in for another year or two of this until people finally figure out what is going on, and start taking care of themselves and their own immune systems... If I didn't have such an investment here, I would pack up and leave and move to a Country that doesn't try to destroy the Businesses that support their spending habits.. That's one of the main reasons why everything is so expensive right now. Anyway..
