- Here is a review of how the habitat responded to cutting down a pine stand six years ago, and how the deer have responded. Hope it gives you a few ideas to consider as you work on your property.

Looks great Mark. I got started on a 2.5 acre bedding area on my 40 last weekend. I also found 2 shed antler's already. I was so excited. Looking to increase my grian for 2023 and maybe feed the deer longer into the winter. Thanks for the update I hope my bedding turns out as well as your's. you do such a good job telling the story.
Thanks. That is a great size bedding area. Give it a year or two to get the succession growth going, and stay out of it from Labor Day to New Years Day, and it will be awesome! All the best to you.
Mark...thanks for the update. Looks like you are continuing to improve the property. We are going to clear a couple of small food plots 1/2 acre or less in our woods to create staging plots on their way to our stands before they reach our ag fields. We will probably plant clover in them this fall. We just had more snow so it is a little difficult to get around in the woods.
Hey Bob, those plots sound like a good idea. Maybe think about adding some rye to the clover planting, the deer like it and it grows anywhere. Keep us updated.

Thanks for sharing. Originally behind in chores, I was just in time b4 this next winter storm, I had a chance to frost seed switch grass on pertnear snowless ground near Cadillac, MI, go figure this time of year! Saves time for chainsaw work later (hopefully).

Nice. I was surprised to hear you say, " these trees were 12 years old when you bought the place 25 years ago".
Not sure if I heard that correctly. But it surprised me how fast our trees grow compared to Michigan's. Those trees in Alabama would be considered 10 year olds.
The white oak crop coming up is awesome. You have definitely turned this place into a Deer jewel. 👍

Great job Mark, Been watching your vids. for a while good info. So I came across a no-till grain drill on an auction, its called Agrotk equipment out of Texas. Funny thing is it looks exactly like your tarriver drill. same shape, same makeup even the same color! what Im looking for is the seed rate chart it doesn't have the sticker under the main cover Maybe do a video on setting your drill?Thanks Mark
Hey Randy, that's great news! It wouldn't surprise me if they just brand label a few different distributors out of the same factory. I'll add that video to my list, I've had a few others ask the same. Probably won't be until spring though, maybe May sometime, might be too late for you? All the best to you.

Hey mark, any update on your chestnut trees? Starting my own little orchard and purchased 5 to plant out alongside 4 pear trees.
Hey Collin, no update because I don't see any live ones anymore. I planted 5-10 pounds of chestnuts around the property last spring (half a 5 gallon bucket), so maybe a few of those will make it? I hope yours make it!!! They will be a great addition to your orchard. All the best to you.
