So to explain.. I had to start with episode 2 because the interview part for ep1 is not ready yet, coming soon though!
Great Job !! Love the break down..
The good days
Facts!
I've always loved Todd Terry's music. When I dj, I still throw them on and they still cause hell with my listeners. One day I was in Sheepshead Bay on Homecrest Avenue and was introduced to Todd by a friend who lived in the building. He tells me, This is Todd, He's a dj too. Sure, he didn't tell me he was Todd Terry. I would have shit myself and would have come back with my 12 inch singles to ask him to autograph them. Good old days of Todd Terry house music. Today's music is shit.
Hahaha this is awesome. There is a lot of great music still being made today, it’s just harder to find 🎶
I like this interview and history
Great thanks! It was so
Much fun
Another good vid. Great interview with Todd.
Great video
Thank you!
5:02 Actually a few months ago a whosampled user (onyxclockwork) found that the correct source for the Snap! track is “Frankie Bones & Lenny Dee - Pumper Piper Beats” (1989) This track combines the mantronix drums with the stab from Ashley’s Roachclip, both of which are looped the same way in The Power.
Mad Props!! Universal Zulu Nation ✊🔥🖤
Great Really enjoyed Thanks
MUCH RESPECT FOR TODD TERRY.

TODD THE GOD🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
This was amazing! I grew up in New York in the 80s, and I remember most of these samples, and listened to a lot of Todd Terry. Your studio techniques are delightful!
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! It was fun to do
ABSOLUTELY excellent interview. This format works really well. Looks & sounds great while gleaning lessons from the teachings from an audio master.
Dropping so my knowledge! Really deep review of one of the all-time House classics that destroyed clubs around the world. And amazing studio deconstruction! 🙌🏻
😍 Todd is rocking the Fania t-shirt!!!- Represent!!
Yessss! That's true NYC going on right there from Brooklyn to Bronx
Awesome content
Awesome thank yoooou
Great watch and can't wait for the next one!! :)

That was awesome!!
You da man! So much techno wisdom in one video. Keep it up!
Thanks Raf! I def think it's so cool how much Todd Terry was able to influence both House and Techno in such profoud ways :)
genial
Den Da Da was DEFINITELY @ The GARAGE !!!!!!!
Nice!! If i was only a few years older I would have made it there!
@@AgentOrangeTheDJ, lol .... I tell my brother, 18 months older than me, we were born at the GREATEST TIME !!!!! The early 60's
@@franklinbruce7121 It's true! I was born in 76 and have an older brother, so I still got to experience some of the carry over from those decades. At 13 years old I was buying underground records that were being played at the clubs. I would listen to them, close my eyes, and imagine what it was like inside the clubs. Great times :)
Loved it ...have not seen Todd in a few years
I’m Andycee a real real child hood friend of his. We grew up together I jus loved the interview. BRIGHTON BEACH ROCKS
That's so cool! Thanks for watching :)
Great episode I loved it. That was a huge track and I'm happy you put that together broke it down and got to chat with Todd! I'm excited for more episodes! Say hi to the fams for me
Hey David, thanks! A big task and a lot of work but it was def fun
Loved it!!! So much FUN! You need to bring Carl Cox
Tnx man! Yes will get him on asap :)
Really cool video production! Great session 😍
Awesome...great interview.
Amazing!! Loving this
Love the show bro!!! MG
Great tnx! This makes me happy coming from OGs :)
The talk from Brooklyn in the 80s was the releases from Frankie Bones and Todd Terry. Would like to know if there was a rivalry given they would both be on 4th Floor records.
Thank you for the this video...great work!🇵🇷
Thanks glad you liked it! A lot of people copied and/or were heavily influenced by Todd's style and sounds in the 80s and I'd say Bones was def one of them (honestly we all were). Frankie's own style came into it's own a bit later, like 1990 and after, with the rave/techno sound. But they could probably tell the story better than me, I was only 12 at the time haha but still obsessed with dance music.
Cool breakdown of a classic mega track. I played this so much back in the day, couldn’t get enough of it.
It’d be great if you could get Josh Wink on board and breakdown his classic Higher State of Conciousness
Yea such great memories to I'll House You. Higher States was on my list from the very start! Def want to do that one. I've been in some contact with him since I remixed his classic Don't Laugh, def on the radar!
@@AgentOrangeTheDJ Nice one! ah yes Don't Laugh was a great one too!😀
Dope episode bro!!
Love this man. Great concept, and so well done. Awesome work!! Can't wait for the next one.
tnx E!

Super cool video. Really well made.

Very nice interview. Tee is one of my favs all time. I’m need to your channel. Have you done any interviews with Louie Vega? Another one of my favs.
Glad you liked it! Louie is def on my list for this year - need to decided what song, too many good ones!
Respect bro 😎✊ Keep them coming!!!
Tnx Mark for your support always!
So what stock sounds are being used from the Casio RZ1 in Todd's beat? Is it just the kick, closed HH and opened HH?
Din day day was a garage track it was out in 1983 I was in high school
I just played it at a gig last Thursday, still timeless!
he's saying he didn't use a sequencer. But he did, it's called a drum machine. The Casio has a sequencer, and it driver the sampler.
Marley Marl did the same stuff back in the day.
also the korg has a sequencer
Hey David, good insight and glad you watched the video. I think what he was saying was that he sequenced the beats with the drum machine but he triggered a a lot of the main samples by hand.
@@AgentOrangeTheDJ Marley Marl and others were doing the same stuff. They used a drum machine to trigger the sampler. This is before the common use of midi. It's done with triggers. And the Korg DD-2000 has them.
The RZ1 let's you either: step in your events, or play them in realtime. I'm sure he triggered the samples recording the events into the casio in realtime.
So, yeah, he technically played them by hand. :)
But he didn't play the sample by hand through out the whole track. lol
He played them in for 4 bars or whatever, and then edited or looped, or lengthened the sequence. Much like we do today!
But course, he recorded to tape too, and edited, much like we don't do today. haha. thank god!
@@dpalaoro From my understanding, he did play some the main samples in by hand in live takes and overdubs. Of course quantized to grid. Then they would tape edit the parts together as you say. I miss tape editing, it was fun! A pain in the arse too though haha.
Marly Marl yes - first to use drum samples and not drum machine in rap music to my knowledge - Queens Bridge!
@@AgentOrangeTheDJ I agree, he played them into the sequencer, but I bet he didn't quantize them necessarily. You get that looseness playing into the sequencer with the quantize off, depending on the situation
Nicely done! Such a inspiration to me back in the late 80s was that man. Definitely converted me from spinning rock to dance and house music. Great work. I am going to suggest another one for me which was “Bass by Simon Harris”.
Tnx for the feedback! I think this track converted a lot of people tbh :) "Bass" is def some classic UK acid house, super sample heavy, would take a while to discect! might be fun though haha!
@@AgentOrangeTheDJ true. Just remember spinning this a lot back in the day letting the Cerwin Vega earthquakes shake the room.
@@DarrylWilsonCanada OMG the C Vegas wow you're not even kidding - back when you needed a separate amp to power speakers!
GLENN FRISCIA deserves all the respect for sure! He helped break ALL of these records!
100%! I would listen to his show on Sat night, record it and listen back all week. It was part of my training, what a teacher! he took so many chances on radio, very awesome
one of my top djs on my list well who.s on my list state side frankie bones. musto my mate dj aura looney nation cream liverpool thanks to oakey
this is fucking amazing Ara!
TNX! :)
The hihats and the snaredrum. Are they from the rz 1 ?
The closed hihat is sure from it. But i am uncertain if the open one and the snare is from that machine. Can you please clear that ?
Hi! Good call, I was chatting with Todd a while after this interview and he said some of the elements were sampled from Original Concept - CAN YOU FEEL IT (Def Jam) maybe those are in there
@@AgentOrangeTheDJ thx ! Will check it.
jungle brothers sample
You forgot Emerald City
...not really a studio, more like a DJ Setup. Oh no how dare I... its just true
Oh hey thanks for your input. This is an acoustically treated and tuned room with high end monitoring which I configure for many different audio and video setups as needed, in short it's a studio.
Todd Terry has the strongest Brooklyn accent I've ever heard from a non white man lol
😅😅😅
