    Something I've always feared is giving minis over complicated paint jobs that you spend hours on to only be faced with the desire to not even touch them due to fear of smudging or dulling your work. Loved the vid and gave me more to think about.

      I think spending serious time on a model should be reserved for special models. Take your time on the fun stuff, get the army painting done quickly but lookin pretty good at the same time :)

      It is definitely worth investing time into crafting a good procedure for getting models done. Painting my Lumineth, even to a shoddy tabletop quality, was a trip, and if I didn't put the time into developing the recipe, it'd never have gotten done.

      I put a lot of effort into every single model. I even take time to individualize every single mini with added details, custom bases and custom accessories. Every single miniature is very individual, giving them some personality. Takes very long but in the end it just feels satisfying

      I run into the problem of either finishing one model and then running out of steam, or half finishing the whole squad and running out of steam. Or worse yet, just not starting because I get a really elaborate idea in my head and end up intimidating myself into not doing it.

    One Hundred Percent Agreed. I got back into the hobby when a friend convinced me to start 40K again. The game was a lot more complicated than I remembered when I used to play 3rd edition. (I rejoined the hobby in 2011, can't remember what edition that was.) Eventually we compromised. A 3rd friend wanted to play Middle Earth, I'm a huge LotR fan and when I learned that Middle Earth was easier to play, I was more than happy to give that a try. I love playing Middle Earth. The simplicity really helps make the game more fun. And since then I have still painted 40K models and collected armies, though more for fun than to game with. But I have noticed the Space Marines have evolved such a lot since 3rd. I liked when the Marines were Tactical Marines for troops, Devastators for Heavy, Assault Marines for Fast Attack, Command Squad for HQ and Veterans for well, Veterans. Now, I just don't get it. Intercessors, Assault Intercessors, Heavy Intercessors, Reivers, Infiltrators, Hellblasters, Eradicators, Inceptors, Eliminators, Bladeguard, Aggressors, Incursors. More than double the units. I have no idea what the role of each one is. I forget which each one is. I mean Intercessors, Inceptors, Infiltrators, Incursors? Which is which again? Not to mention, the range for Space Marines is so large it makes the Imperial Guard look like an afterthought. I was always under the impression that Guardsmen was the bulk of the Imperium and each Marine was like the equivalent of 50 guardsmen. But it looks more like the opposite when you see the sheer scale of the options. In some ways, I'd like to see Imperium be condensed into it's own army. And for Space Marines to consist of a 5 man squad which can be taken with every 100 Guardsmen. Or something similar. Thats the image Marines gave me. Now they are too big, too numerous and too complicated. GW should probably streamline the game a bit and make a) the game more beginner friendly and b) marines more simple

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  Před 2 lety +2

      Similar story here, I came back in after a very long break to AOS, much easier and fun oriented, although the Wild West when it started. Space marines could just use a simplified org chart, like, here’s a great place to start with X troops and options, then branch out if you enjoy the craziness! It’s gone too far for sure.

    • @madmanvarietyshow9605
      @madmanvarietyshow9605 Před 2 lety

      God yes please.
      For me not only is the big thing the complicated rules, but the sheer volume of... volumes you have to collect to play and how much they cost. $60 for the core, $40 for the codex, $40 for the rule updates.
      Yeah screw that, give me something simple and playtested by people who actually play the game at a higher level who are really good at breaking games to iron out all the kinks and super OP stuff.
      But if they did that then GW wouldn't make as much money so it's off to something like One Page Rules I go! Lol

    • @TheKsalad
      @TheKsalad Před 2 lety

      Some people have been collecting space marine armies for decades, so turning them into an elite unit within an "imperium" codex would really bite a lot of those people in the ass.

    • @michaeltunnicliffe4935
      @michaeltunnicliffe4935 Před 2 lety +1

      @@TheKsalad oh yeah. I agree. My main point is I don't think it should have got this far in the first place. Obviously it's too late to turn back now. But Guardsmen should definitely outnumber Space Marines by a mile. But that's not represented on the model range. Guard should always have been more numerous than Marines. Be it different regiment options or even just offering 20 guardsmen in a box instead of 10. It's such a pain collecting Guard. You spend 5 times as much to make a playable army and you are stuck with hundreds of identical guardsmen.

    Really liking them but personally feel the silver is too dominating, I would differentiate the weapons by applying a dry brush of "grey knight steel". It's also incredibly quick and easy, so fits the video theme.

    Very monoposey

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  Před 2 lety +1

      True, the mono pose models are the opposite of choice, but they do eventually come out with multi pose kits, for most things anyways. My main issue is not having a baseline of models and units that are clearly there to show you how to put together an army, the ironjawz specific army shows you what it needs and then you can branch out with all the other orks. Most other factions (more in 40K) just tell you to jump in with both feet. And not that that’s the worst thing in the world, but if we want more people to get into the hobby then the barrier to entry needs to continue being lowered.

    • @darko-man8549
      @darko-man8549 Před 2 lety

      @@eBayMiniatureRescues Personally I feel that's what marines are there for though. They do tend to be simple and easy to assemble. They fill that niche. Other armies being more complex are not really a barrier to entry.
      PLus, on a personal level, GW already have their entire business model based on "getting new consumers in" - this comes from an actual employee - I think they don't need to do more to encourage people to join because practically everything is
      And, thinking back to when I was a kid, I recall quite enjoying the complicated pieces (this being 10-15 years ago)

    what primer do you find works the best for metal models? i cant find one that sticks to all my battletech stuff very well

      @eBayMiniatureRescues  Před 2 lety

      I use Badger Stynlrez black for everything, it seems to do just fine for me. If you are having a hard time getting paint to stick try washing your model first, there might be some kind of release agent on it making it hard for the paint to adhere.

    How do you feel about Orks with yellow and blue armor with purple clothes

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  Před 2 lety +1

      Sounds cool, the yellow is straight across from purple on the color wheel, and if you use the traditional washes for yellow, contrast included, you can get a real good orange tone in the recesses that would contrast with the blue really well. Sounds like a fun theme :)

      Oh absolutely, but this is strictly a gameplay Army for me. I want to keep it simple and fun. On the other hand, there will be room at the end to do some “improvements” to make the whole thing pop, and we’ll get there :)

      @@eBayMiniatureRescues I understand it. I'm not a pro painter and I just want to show colour schemes and a few techniques, (to give ideas and inspire those who don't want to paint with many layers) but I welcome your critique too.

    So I went with purple under my red for an ork and it turned out beautifully! What do you suggest for green orks?

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  Před 2 lety +1

      actually purple works really well for green as well. You get an incredible hulk vibe. Generally I do a pretty dark green though if I want good ork skin. The trick is to add some pink and red tones to the skin to highlight, not just green. Elbows, faces, knuckles, those kind of things work really well for that.

Its their fault. I've struggled and sacrificed to keep this passion but I'm sorry enough is enough.
