    @IanTC12 Thanks for checking it out. I eventually finished reassembling the interior, and it looks like a car again. As for ugly; well, I guess awkward might be a better term. I think the styling could have worked, had Chrysler not downsized the chassis that year. A well engineered car, the basic chassis design lasted well into the late 70's. Road Runners, Coronets, Satellites, etc. all rode this platform, and were arguably much better-looking interpretations of it. 62's are rare today, though!

    It's a Belvedere for sure. My first car was a white 1962 Fury. I totaled it after 7 weeks (long story!). Replaced it with a white 1962 Belvedere. The main difference was that the Fury had three tail lights on either side and the Belvedere had only two. I loved the push button drive. Traded in the Belvedere when the starter engine died at 130 thousand miles. Thanks for the video; it was great watching that car come back to life!

    @bradbeall392 Před 8 lety +24

    That '62 Belvedere looked pretty solid to me - at least compared to the cars here in Pennsylvania. Just because the interior was partially removed along with most of the trim doesn't mean that it can't be restored. It appears fairly rust free, as the rocker panels are still there, along with the rear quarters. Here in Pennsylvania, the rockers & quarters would have rusted into total garbage before the car was 10 years old. Road salt and potholes bigger than lunar craters tend to do bad things to cars. Most of what ypu guys call "junk" would be viable restoration candidates here in Pennsylvania.

    • @coldwarmotors
      @coldwarmotors Před 8 lety +16

      +Brad Beall Hi! Thanks for the note. It was definitely restorable, but we have to consider that it would cost more than twice what a nice example was worth to do it. I sold the car to someone who was going to use it to save a rusty 2 door, so it didn't go to waste. I bought it off the crusher truck to save it from getting scrapped. The car was actually pretty decent before someone took it all apart and abandoned the project outside in the rain for 15 years. A shame; it was a decent car before that. Cheers from us here at CWMC!

      @@coldwarmotors Hey today i found out about the 60's belvedere and i have a question, coming from eastern europe where every car from 1960s that i know of had the orange indicator lights, where do the 60s american cars have their indicator lights, for example on 1960s belveder'es i see only one pair of red lights and one pair of white lights in the rear, and 2 pairs of white lights in the front. How do turn signals work in this case? Rear tail lights blink like turn signals?

    • @craignehring
      @craignehring Před 5 lety +2

      @@justaparps8088, I'll try to answer this. Many cars of this era had dual filament lamps (bulbs) Only one socket were needed the brake and turn signal shared the same high brightness filament. The other filament inside the bulb was used for the "running lamp".
      The turn signal switch controlled the brake light circuit in that when indicating say, a left turn, the brake lamp for that side would not go on and leave the filament flashing on and off indicating your intention to turn left.
      It worked but I always felt like it was the cheap way out. Today's vehicles have much more advanced lighting, especially at the rear of the car.
      Not sure exactly, but somewhere around 1962 or 1963 is when the orange or amber lights became mandatory in the USA (not sure about Canada) This was for the front only, the rear could still be red for turn signals. I was very impressed when I bought my first Saab 96, it was a 1965 model. That car put to shame American cars when it came to rear tail lamp lighting.
      What is weird to me was or is, the Chevrolet of the 60's even with the higher end Impala that had three lights per side on the rear, they still didn't allow any lamps on one side to indicate braking when the turn signal was engaged.

Well my sister broke down in my dad's 69 International Travelall and I didn't check to see if the knucklehead put it in park. So I got under the car with a screwdriver to jump the starter and it started and almost ran me over.
    Lesson learned, sometimes old people and silly sisters turn the car off without putting them into park. I used to take my sister's 62 out on the back street and put it in first and nail it. I could get it up to 50 than hit second it would chirp the tires too. I didn't like the way they looked back then but they have grown on me and I wouldn't mind having one today.

      The car I was speaking of was bought brand new in late 62 by my great uncle. He stopped driving it in 88 due to his health. I got it in HS after it had sat for all of those yrs. An oil change and new battery brought the 225 to life even on old gas. I did steering and brake work on it, new tires and minor electrical work to make it roadworthy. It was pretty much rust free at the time. Some chick that was looking the wrong way hit me hard while in a turn in late 93. Despite all of that metal, she hit me in the rt rear quarter hard enough to curl the trunk floor into the frame and tear the spring shackle lose. The cost at the time was much too much for a kid in HS to endure. So a running car went to scrap....It had just over 110k on it.

      +Ignignokt Mooninite You can set a clock for about 80k miles to replace a 225 leaner water pump. I lost one between L.A. and 'Vegas in my '68 Valiant - crankin' freezing AC air in the stinkin' desert. Ol' Shadetree got us back on the road in about an hour for about $180 for the Vegas wedding. The car could run on piss and beer of you tuned it right.
