Most people take water for granted and I did too until I had to set up my own system similiar to yours. I remember having this immediate deep appreciation for water that I had never had previously. Being conscious of how you get and use water is such a gratifying feeling.Loved watching this and thanks for sharing it with us.

The big plastic tank, I’ve seen other Portuguese homesteaders cover it with dark tarp or plastic so the algae growth is kept to a minimal.
You probably saw it on our video because we always have it covered with black plastic 🤣🤣 but this time on this very video we cover it with a proper cover meant for IBC tanks

That is going to be a big improvement for you with your water management. Your time is valuable and where you can eliminate the demand on regular tasks it will leave you more time to develop your property. Smart move. The tank cover with the reflective lining will help too as it should totally block the sun that drives the algae development.

All my water comes from rain and into totes, too. The tank I painted black takes a long time to start to go green, but the one I have not Painted is green in a week.. Dumping chlorine into it to kill the algae kinda defeats the purpose of living chemical free... Peroxide is better, but much more expensive.
Yes we definitely don't want to add anything to the water as it all goes into our garden beds.

You two have been working so hard bless your hearts. Well I live in Texas and I do so enjoy your lovely channel . Once you figure out the water situations have you thought of burring the hoses to conserve on your water. I know that is pretty important where you all are. I wonder if the algae is coming from your well? The cover for the well too seemed like a great idea when you did it. I was like "yes!" when that happened. Going to be interesting to see how you get on.
The well being uncovered for sure and also the ibcs were previously covered with some black plastic but over time it got torn and some light would hit the tanks. Hopefully having those new covers for them should help

What a weird comment Arjan🤣🤣 , we use our pump everyday as does she so I think she will need to get one of her own and if you meant the petrol one well that one is broken.
Why aren’t the IBC tanks made in black to prevent algae growth? Why didn’t Sarah use the strimmers around the well? Will you use rain water collection off the roof of your home and the animal pins to supplement the water from the well?
IBC are made for shipping large amounts of liquid. Didn't use the strimmer because all the weeds will fly into the well.. now that it's kind of covered I can strim the rest. We will collect water from our home
@@lukeandsarahsoffgridlife oh are the IBCs not meant to be stationary out in the sun? Never knew that. I’d love to see a vlog on you doing rainwater harvesting, but the way the weather has gone so far in Portugal, there has been very little rain so far.
Hey Luke I could be 110% wrong but with those IBC covers I would've thought that the silver would've went on the outside to reflect the sunlight and keep it cooler and the black on the inside to make it darker to reduce algae growth??? black absorbs heaps of heat?

It's way to far away for this garden. This well is the closest water source to this part of our land....for now 😁
I have a question about your expectations with using bluetti power banks. How long do you expect them to last??
For your demands and needs do they give you an estimate of how long each bluetti product lasts? I am curious because the tiny power packs (used for mobile ph charging) are dead after 2 yrs. Do bluetti power banks have a 10yr guarantee?

No it won't . Weve done it before but the wind took it a while ago. We do it to minimize algi growth
