  • In this short basics tutorial, Kevin shares the "How To" of creating an interactive 3D map of any GPAA Claim from the Mining Guide.
These maps are easy to build, updatable, and will help you in trending your gold finds on any GPAA claim.
These maps can be shared with your fellow GPAA Member Prospecting Partners and easily converted and uploaded to the GPAA Online Mining Guide to share with other members. After all, for over 50 years it is still about "Members helping Members become better Prospectors."

I used this technique last year on the AZ OLY POP claim. I downloaded the maps of the area on my Samsung tablet and was able to walk the claim with my tablet in Google Maps mode and see exactly where I was at all times. Great tool. Thanks for the video.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a simplified version built in to the directory to allow members to gain better access as part of our membership benefits?
Once your overlay of the claim is done, that could be saved and uploaded to the Directory. All a member would have to do is chose the over lay, plot points of interest and print or go?
I wish I wasn't so stupid.... I could just show you!
    Respectfully,
    Dingus & Eva!

Hey Kevin, Great tutorial! Looking forward to more. When you have this created for an area, can you easily apply the Google Earth history to see terrain feature changes over time? Thanks!

I intend to map several potential sites that are not currently claimed. I have to drive Alot to get to these areas so I want as much advantage as I can before I go. Thanks!

Great video, and very handy. But... I'm looking at the online mining guide and none of the claims I have looked at have the corner coordinates... When will those be available in the online guide?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing and never got any guide. It's annoying. Seems easy to add this info to website.

Can’t add the minus (-) sign in front of Longitude? Type the ( ‘ ) sign then the ( - ). Hit enter or click on another cell.

  • @andyboring8468

I am in Arizona and when I typed in a coordinate according to what is in "Claim Updates" in Arizona section the map changed the coordinates it took me to Montana. Why? It eliminates the minus sign from the Longitude number.

The printing company that did the updated guide pulled the wrong cords for a claim. I updated those to the Online Guide. log onto your account for the proper cords. Google Earth will kick out the - when it converts. It has the necessary input info from you (which includes the - ) to create the mapping. If you click edit on any of the points and look at the decimal conversion you will see that the - is included.

I'm looking for resources that list all the Active and Closed mining claims in an area. I had Minecash but had to drop it for awhile. It was also hard to use. Every time I tried to zoom in the claim info would disappear plus it was not android compatible.
I'm not sure if the LR2000 does that and it's hard to use.
I'm in northern Siskiyou County CA. A friend in Yreka wants me to teach him how to pan. I'd like to find a spot no farther than say Beaver Creek down the Klamath River (about 39 miles) that has flakes available.
Unfortunately I'm not finding any real historical info on the local area.
Also, the Parcel Viewer that the county uses is no longer free.
And I'm not finding LIDAR Maps for Siskiyou County either.
A list of resources and how-tos would be very appreciated.

Ok, do how do I get an overlay of all the active and inactive claims for my county or whatever is in the BLM website instead of a single claim?

Can it calculate area? If so, how to do.

That will be in an upcoming video using Google Earth Pro and Earth Point. You can use the measuring tool in Earth and convert to acres but I do prefer Earth Pro for this.

Have you ever wanted to take the GPAA membership fees and actually provide interactive US maps and State maps? I'd probably drop your coords in for free if they weren't being hidden behind a paywall..I mean to visualize a US map with claims to know how much access youre getting before membership would be nice. Guess what bro? Im probably jumping your claims and there's nothing you can do to stop me. I;m like 6'7" jacked and on roids and just panning as I go. If Im accidentally on your private land or claims then thats just tuff as I didnt see a sign, had no idea where I am or where your claims where located and didnt see anyone around to stop me. The earth is my claim until you put a security guard on it to tell me to get off.
