In this week's episode, explore a 4-room HDB flat in Yishun, designed with a modern interpretation of the Southern Chinese Nanyang movement. The 980 sqft home features two bedrooms and two baths, revealing a thoughtful balance between lifestyle and spatial needs.
Beginning at the entrance, a Peranakan mosaic tile corridor provides a warm welcome, leading to a dining area with a four-to-six-seater table. Organic-shaped pendant lamps illuminate the space, complemented by ample natural light through windows.
Moving into the living room, a minimalist TV wall and a three-seater sofa create a cosy atmosphere. A notable feature is the modern, minimalist altar area, seamlessly integrated into the home. The kitchen, showcasing Peranakan tiles and stone countertops, offers both under-counter and over-counter storage.
The HDB's home improvement programme updated the bathrooms, featuring an innovative hidden door. A strategically placed wall visually hides the entrance, enhancing the overall aesthetic. The master bedroom combines a wardrobe room and a restful sleeping area, separated by an automatic curtain.
The flexible space includes a queen-size bed and side tables, providing adaptability for changing needs over time.

I have been a big fan of this channel for quite a while and yet I can't help but notice that the quality has been sliding gradually for the past couple of months at least.
Specifically, it is the PACE of presentation - for some reason, the recent videos all felt rushed as if the homeowners are charging the crew per minute of filming or that they have stacked (pun intended) up so many viewing / filming locations that they cannot afford to devote too much time on each one.
I used to enjoy listening to the host's soothing voice and relaxing pace as she took us to explore many beautiful homes and their details in the past and was very inspired by many of their ideas.
Now, with this rushed presentation and sponsor's message, there is very little substance remaining for the viewers to enjoy the video. Instead of exploring a home, the recent videos all felt like some rushed guided tours with little purposes and no enjoyable experience.
Furthermore, there appears to be some sort of elitism - videos featuring HDB flats (no matter how wonderfully renovated or large they are) seemed to be always shorter than those of private condos / houses even though the latter could be smaller or have less interesting design themes / features.

A very well thought out design. My only preference would be curtains for bedroom & vertical blinds instead of venetian blinds.

Nicely done, but I am not too sure I like the overall design of space or floor plan. I think it would be better if the kitchen were accessible from the entry way and also the living room placement was not optimum. There were a lot of wasted space in the wardrobe area that could have been reclaimed to make the living area more spacious.

The best part of this house is the corridor, really captured the Southeast Asia Chinese theme. But the rest of the house didn't quite match up to the corridor. Should have went fully with the theme and it would have looked much better and coherent

My apt is about the same size but this looks way bigger than mine....especially their kitchen. If you hack the wall to have a bigger room, why put up a curtain in the middle of the bedroom? It's big but not that BIG.
