This is one of the best videos I've seen on CZcams. No bullshit, no click bait. Just fish bait and great tips. Highly entertaining and well edited

Will definitely do, just got into the fishing game and your videos are helpful.
@@TeddysGaming thanks for watching really appreciate you!!! Keep in touch. I hope you have been catching brother.. Hopefully I will have a new video out tomorrow ... Crappie Town USA
We need more ppl like this in CZcams again
Nice video! A tip for the DIY types: you can make a minnow trap by taking a 2L bottle, cutting off the open end, turning that end around, putting it inside the back half of the bottle, and securing it with some packing tape or whatever (use you imagination). You have to discard the cap first, obviously!
If you wanted to get fancy you could make a double-ended trap with two 2L bottles.
"I can't take 1 mo degree!" .. if you're not in the south you'll never understand
Hahahahaha you know how it is brother!!!! That heat sometimes is deadly bro lol ..keep in touch my brother Crappie Town USA
Working awesome in Greensboro and Winston Salem north Carolina
Yessir, this place will boil your brains proper May-Oct in south Georgia
Texans understand.
Yes, nice informative video. Just make sure it's legal in your state to catch bait and transport them to a different body of water and use. Transfer can lead to spreading zebra muscles, bass virus, invasive species, etc. Its a big no no here in Missouri. Also no no in Arkansas. Just try to catch your bait in the same body of water you will fish and you'll be ok.
Yep. I agree. And that's not hard to do
@Anonymous Fisherman X I don't know about TX. Get on the TX Game and Fish gov website and look for section stating bait transfer, ect. Glad you are concerned .
Lol
I hit subscribe at "I'm supposed to be painting for my wife"
😆 yes indeed hahahaha thanks for subscribing and watching... The wife always got me doing something brother... Appreciate you and please Keep in touch
great video...I been fishing for 50 years and still learned some things that I never thought of...like clear fishing line so your line will give away your trap ( where I set my traps children do not steal my bait, adults do...which causes me to set out and run traps at night)...using bread for bait, I always use a handful of Walmart brand dry dog food and it not only draws minnows it draws crawdads ( one craw in the trap and you will get very few or no minnows)...and taking an air pump with my 5 gallon bucket (just like you said, wild minnows will die FAST)...thanks for the video...
Thanks for watching indeed!!! Yes indeed you get 1 crawdad and its over for getting a lot of minnows...brother its good hearing from you.. Hit me up anytime... I'm thinking of doing a trap test with a black one and a galvanized trap to see the difference. Keep in touch
@@crappiesniperHi! Did you do a comparison? I’m ready to buy one and was going to buy galvanized.
@daveg2199 thanks for watching... I didn't do a comparison video, but I will say the galvanized ones do better, in my opinion. If I only had 1 to pick from I would take the galvanized for sure.
@@crappiesniper thank you for that response! I’ve heard the same from others. I just wanted to confirm with you I wonder how it would do if it were painted green to look like weeds? Here’s a video for you.👍🏼

Catching bait like this as a kid was one of my favorite things as a kid. Get all kinds of bait this way. Good video!
Thanks for watching indeed!!!! Keep in touch ... Yes bro we used to do all type of stuff as a kid ...we used to dig worms and keep them in maxwell coffee cans lol ...man keep on touch
Just to let people know Cheetos puffs (usually off brand) work super well for emerald shiners and creek chubs
Dog food works too
The water "browning" is actually tannins being leeched out of the wood. Tannin rich water has the tendency to calm some fish.
Thanks for watching Appreciate you indeed.. Good information bro.. I'm going to look into that.. Thats the type of info thats useful and need to be shared. Keep in touch and continue to share your knowledge
I'm an old man and have been trapping minnows off and on for a long time...but you had some good info to pass on to all fishermen...and really liked the idea of putting some cover on the minnows...makes a lot off sense. Glad to see you set your priorities....I'd rather catch bait than paint too😁. Thanks for a great video.
Nice video man. I know it's difficult to keep the minnows alive when it's so hot, even harder to keep some ice on hand. I read this tip in a Field & Stream magazine when I was a kid; place a lid with small holes drilled in it on your minnow bucket and drop a couple of ice cubes on top every so often. The cold water dripping into the bucket will keep the minnows alive and lively!
Thanks for watching!!! Brother thats a great idea...might have to try that one day... You are correct its very hard keeping them alive and ice melts too ...its rough in the heat... I usually freeze a few water bottle and put one in the bucket until the water warms up again then i put the other one. Keep in touch bro ..you have great ideas man
That ice from tap usually kills em. I freeze those small 8oz water bottles and that does the trick for me
Ice in a zip lock bag helps as well
Ya you guys are on the right track.... Ice.... Water changes..... And bubble box air pumps. Cold oxygenated water without fish piss
And poop is what keeps them alive
Lol, for years I used those traps. I took the bread and rolled it into balls to bait the traps. Ty. Good video. My grandfather often put some ice in after getting the bait. He had a nice size Jon boat and set out hundreds of hooks on trot lines. As a minister in a rural South Georgia poor community, he often helped him feed his congregation. He always taught us not to take more than we need. It didn’t have to be for supper that night, a good catch could last for months. CCCC catch it, clean it, cook it, (I added one more for my son) consume it.
Been doing this for years👍 might I add if you like to fish with Crawdad's, hot dog pieces work great in that same exact trap. I trap in current, so I make doughball out of the bread and let them harden a couple days before using to ensure my hair last.
BAIT not hair. Annoying spellcheck
Yes indeed auto is ridiculous trust me I get it lol ... Brother thanks for watching.. Appreciate you sharing that information cause this is something I would be interested in doing. I love stuff like this... I do it for fun and let my 3 year old learn how to do this stuff. Sometimes we release them right back in the water. Keep in touch
FYI: In my state (Wisconsin) Fishing with Live or Dead crayfish is very much illegal you can't even be in possession of fishing gear and crawfish at the same time. Check with local laws first.
@@SickBuckNaStY it's definitely legal in Ohio though (where the Crappie Sniper lives)
Other than a piece of dead carp or other fatty fish, I find that canned catfood brings the crays in.
I never knew that fish would die in the heat and couldn’t understand why my
Minnows died last summer. Now I know! and thanks so much for the information on how to keep them alive 👍😊
Great video, man. That took me back to the old days catching bait with my dad. We never went to the bait store. He taught me to put wet leaves in with our crawdads too. Doin it old school is part of the fun too.
Thanks for watching brother .. Yes Indeed Yes Indeed. Brother when I was young thats how it was with me and my grandmother... She had us out there digging worms and catching crickets... Yes bro thanks for sharing that story indeed. We have to get back to the old days for our youth man for real.. Keep in touch
Great idea never thought of giving cover for minnows
Easier than trying to throw a cast net. Tip..if you can get some ice and put it in a small plastic bag and drop it in the bucket. It will keep them alive and won't contaminate the water.
That's what's up. I keep my minnows pretty good, but I'd rather have what they feeding on. I'm going to try that. Great tutorial.
Should be useing a styrofoam cooler as well as ice are frozen bottles to keep the water at temperature styrofoam cooler will keep a consistent water temp better than a bucket and I would start aerating water before you even set your traps get a nice amount of oxygen already circulated before you put the minnows in
Thanks for watching Appreciate you man. Appreciate you sgaring as well. I'm thinking about doing another video like this one and add more details .. I do alot of these things its just so much to put into a short video... I just might do a part 2 for real.. You have some good ideas bro. Keep in touch
Nice vid, I do the same with 2 liter bottles cut top off put lid inside funnels them in they can't get out. I use the same air bubbler if you have problems with heat killing minnows I put a wet burlap clothe on and around it, also change water often as u fish
Yes indeed you're right!!! I like to use ice paks.. Keep in touch bro
"It's a little too big for crappie, it might not be for down south though" that's right 😅😂🤣
I have a Gee' s minnow trap on a 15' stringer that I put bread and dog food in. My local bait store doesnt sell minnows in the summer because they can't keep them alive so having my own trap was a must.
Yes Sirrrrr!!! I know what you mean brother... I know places that stop selling minnows too its rough... Thats why i have to trap more when it gets too hot because sometimes i just dont feel like spending the money and driving way across town for them. Where are you located?
Ya got me! Soon as I heard you say you was supposed to be painting I subscribed, my kinda people :) We travel full time in our RV. Just put 64 bluecat fillets in the freezer a few stops back. Great video! I use a perch trap for catfish bait.
Hahahahaha im crackin' up man ..yes indeed ..and you sound like MY kind of people!!! Man i love sruff like that ... I been wanting a RV for the longest .. Dont really have no where to park a bike let alone a RV ..i have so many vehicles smh ... Man you have to tell me how you trap PERCH???? PERCH? Come on brother whats the technique on that? ... Thanks for subbing and watching ...you have to keep in touch man... Where are you from? Where do you travel?
Crappie Sniper search here on CZcams. It’s a 4 leaf clover shaped trap with a bait cup. I hang a hook with a worm on it in the bait cup & toss it in the water, works great!
Nomadic Native I’m gonna check your perch trap out sounds great 👍
Putting that cover in there helps keep the oxygen from escaping so fast. Keep the oxygen bubbles in the water as well. I do my minnows the same way, keep them cool, covered/shaded and keep them in the water that you caught them in. River,Creek stream water. Try throwing a few pieces of hard crunchy dog food in there they will eat at it. Great video... Best regards to you and your family. Fish-on !
Thanks for watching ... Appreciate you indeed!!! Yes thats the best way to do it. Indeed keep in touch
Freeze bottles of water, place one froze bottle in your minnow bucket also helps!
Thanks for watching brother..yes indeed I have about 3 of them in the freezer right now.. Just keep changing them out ... Thanks for sharing bro keep in touch. Appreciate you indeed
I use this method in KS. Works great. I bought 2 traps for $1 at an auction. I use a frozen block from ice cream pail.
I can't believe i dont already own at least one minnow trap. Ive called myself making one. Big flop. But after seeing you catch all those minnows i will be adding one to my tackle..thanks buddy
Chrystal Brown hahahahahaha man you be crackin me up ..you said a big flop smh I'm rollin' ... Listen Chrystal I did the same thing... When T walks out and ask WHAT IS THAT? Thats when you know it didnt come out right lol I will be making another one but its going to be a something I can leave in the creek for a day or week like until I want to use them. If you have an aquarium to transfer them in they will live longer. Oh yeah 1 other thing if you decide to make another make sure you get small spacing on the mesh or wire because alot of perfect size crappie minnows get away because they can swim right through the holes. Always good hearing from you indeed.
Crappie Sniper Ikr!! i watched a guy on CZcams making one and he used 2 wire baskets from dollar tree. Now it looked good when i got done but i was like "the minnows will swim right out". Occasionally i see them at walmart. I should've brought one the last time i saw them there but the fact that i wasn't gonna crappie fish again til late summer early fall i didnt get it. Crappie Town USA Baby!!! Tell Mrs T i said hi!!
@@chrystalbrown4662 indeedi will tell her... Yeap ive heard people talk about making them out of those wired baskets but its difficult to get them to stay in it cause those spaces are too big for the size minnows im looking for. I think you should get ome just to have it whenever you want to grab a few right out the lake or river creek... I dont use it alot but it pays for itself when i do for real...let me know if you trap some yes indeed!!!
I'd recommend getting on Amazon and checking out the Gee's minnow traps, they can take a serious pounding, and the price is very similar to the cheap traps at walmart.
@@darrellfrenzel8524 that's true and the nice size crappy minnows don't sneak through the mesh like on the ones from big box stores
Thanks for the info. Im a hardcore lure angler but once in a while, live lining gets my blood flowing like no other. Great video! Keep em coming..
Sweet tips!
Bonus pro tip at end with the branch!!!
Got my respect when you put "only take what u gonna use" mad props. 👍👍
Thanks for watching my brother! Yes sir only take what you will use man... People just dog places out without thinking about what happens when you keep taking too much at 1 time... Half of those catches i put back in this video along with the first catch i did. Brother where are you from?
@@crappiesniper I agree. I hate to see anything go to waste man. I'm from South Carolina.
Those minnies are 6 bucks a dozen! I like the metal traps. I have one of those plastic/rubber coated ones, it seems they get out between the sections. Probably gotta put twistees one them. Good video. I just stumbled on your channel. I'm a fish nut, so I'm a sub now!
Thanks for watching and subbing for real bro.. We really appreciate you indeed!!! I'm thinking about getting a galvanized trap at some point and see what the difference is. Bro hit me up any time keep in touch.
I would gladly stock a good suitable pond with crappies. Two years later, those crappies will grow to good size. Lake Ray Hubbard is a good place to drop em off.
Don’t know why I’ve waited so long to get a minnow trap....slappin’ myself upside da’ head for that oversight. Enjoying the hell out of your videos man.
Hahahaha yes indeed man you have to get at least one ... Man they are so useful. Appreciate you bro keep in touch
Love the intro music sounds like old Cuban jazz.
Great set up! One thing I have found fishing creeks is I spook less fish when I don’t wear bright colors like white. I feel like it attracts less bugs too and it conceals stains better too. Good luck fishing (or painting if Mrs. Crappie Sniper is reading)!
Thanks for watching indeed!!!! Keep in touch more videos to come
I've trapped thousands of minnows for bait over the years but I've never had any luck with those rubber covered traps. I use Gee's minnow traps, plain galvanized mesh. I don't know why but thats what I have found. Another tip! Use dry dog food for bait. Buy the cheapest store brand stuff you can get. It doesn't fall apart like bread or crackers and much easier to separate out the shiners and the bait when your cleaning out your traps. It all works. I find trapping the bait is equally as much fun as the fishing.
Thanks for watching... Appreciate you bro... The crazy thing is I've only had good catching with the black traps and if I buy the other one I would paint it dark green or brown... The galvanized ones seem to spook the baitfish here... I'm planning on getting a galvanized trap and do a test on which one will get the most baitfish. Hit me up anytime bro keep in touch..where are you from?
I use 2 buckets with Ice in the outer bucket to help keep them cool.
You are one of my favorite CZcamsrs. I wish you much success buddy! That was a good tip about the cover. I never thought about that!
Appreciate you bro... I have no idea why im just now seeing your comment... But i had to respond even if it was a while ago... One day i hope we can get to SC and catch some slabs bro
You are great man, thanks for all your videos and tips. Its nice to know there is genuine people left in the world. Really wish I could meet you and fish with you one day. Despite this evil world today keep being you ,Gods blessings to you & wife. Yo wife so cool she dont care if you fishing instead of painting😃
Awesome! I love my minnow trap as well. I use dog food since it doesn't disintegrate much. Question: how big is too big of a minnow for crappie? I don't use an aerator though. Usually throw them back since I don't stay long.
Nice to see there is someone else in the world that knows what he is talking about
Lol ...thanks for watching brother... Appreciate you indeed. Trying to get back out there this weekend... Hit me up anytime bro
Great tip on putting the branch in there!
I could fish with this guy. Good at explaining and adds a nice sense of humor.
will a frozen water bottle set in the water with the minnows help them live a little longer. Also I think Academy sales some stuff that's called bait saver pogey saver little bitty pellets that you drop into the water it takes all the ammonia and stuff out of the water I guess you can look into that keeping the minnows alive
Yes indeed ..i use water bottles all the time but you have to be careful that you dont temperature shock them and they will die by the hand full.... You dont want to temp to be extremely colder or warmer than the water you are putting them in to fish... If so you would want to mix the lake water in with your minnow water to get them use to that temp...
Never use tap water but instead the water you caught the minnows in. Some type of cover placed in the bucket and the pump works fine. However, I place my minnows in the fridge upon my return from fishing (from this experience, they kept for two weeks).
Thanx for making this video. I actually got some tips from this. I never used a minnow trap, but I have known several who has and they never really got many with them so I never bothered. The bread is a good tip on getting them in there which no one I've known used anything. Just the trap. Thanx again for sharing.
Fishing beats painting any day LoL 😊
Lol you got that right!!!! Thanks for watching Appreciate you indeed. Keep in touch
Tee mac Indeed!
I'm really gonna have to try this. My wife and I kayak fish. I go to the creek behind my house and catch bluegill for cut bait. I'm gonna do this while I'm there, because I feel like we waste to much extra time going to bait shop when we should be on the water. Thanks for the tip.
Where i stay in tx I've caught them good on baby bluegills before when i forgot the minnows.

I followed your instructions exactly. Put bread in trap. Next thing 3 beautiful girls walked to me and asked what I was doing. Thanks !!!
Here in kansas its illegal to catch bait fish and use them in a different body of water. Must be used where you caught them. It sucks cuz a lot of places that have good amount of bait are the parks and you need a bait permit to collect bait. Its BS
Wow that is crazy!!! I would hate to have to fish where I catch them because its mainly going to be creeks where you find them. I can count on 1 hand how many times I've had an encounter with DNR about fishing or what I'm doing in over 10 years... I just never seen them only at the river and during walleye striper season. Man thanks for watching and commenting.
@@crappiesniper yea I'm guessing it has to do with our asian carp and zebra mussel problems. They don't want to make it worse I bet

Try dog food instead of bread. Holds up better
If you have a large tire tube push one end it into the water a little. Then push it up onto land 6 feet or so. I start out about 6 feet from land to sneak up on them. Let the water out and wallah a few minnows. I did that as a kid on the private beach and got 4 to 6 each time. They are easy to see flapping in the sand. They love shallow areas that big fish stay away from. I could see them hanging out all the way up to the edge of the water to the beach trying to find food that the little waves pulled in. No need to store or worry about killing minnows off by suffocation or over heating in the sun. Just throw the minnows back that you did not put on a hook. Plus if you have kids, they can help you while they play. If you want to keep a bunch just put them in a minnow cage, tie a line to handle and let the cage sink into the lake. You can tie it to a dock or side of a boat and pull up any time you need a new minnow.
I was sold when you said "it's 99 degrees I can't one more I ain't got it" subscribed
Hahahahahahaha thanks brother!!! Appreciate it indeed.. Keep in touch more videos to come... Hope to hear from you brother. Yes indeed you know how it is when that heat hit you lol appreciate you bro
Yep, that was a good one.
Have you tried modifying your slip cork? Basically I remove the yellow tips from stem and replace with a 1/8 diameter, 1/16-1/8 grip range rivet on both ends. Can get at Ace Hardware or any hardware store. Found that it allows your cork to set up a lot quicker and no worries from line break due to grooves wearing into the top and bottom of cork stem. If rivets won't fit snug then use a drop of super glue and place around base of rivet before inserting completely in stem. Trust me, you'll fall in love with it. Hopefully you'll do a video introducing this technique, very popular here in MS. Almost forgot, if you can't get line to feed through simply use a bigger and more sturdier piece of line and tie to your regular line and feed through until you see your line. Remove thicker line and rig up as you normally would. I usually use (2) #3 split shots and (1) 1/16oz Sickle Jighead with about 6 inches between weight and jighead. For depth control and before placing cork on line, you want to put on a slip knot tie (the green nylon ones from Walmart) and a small bead (comes with ties). You're rig will be in this order from rod tip: Slip Knot tie, bead, cork, weight(s) and jighead. I'll send a photo to your email.
Lol man i was just getting ready to say man send me a pic lol the only thing i cant picture is the thing you're talking about from ace hardware....i may be familiar with it if i see it.... Appreciate you bro good hearing from you... Always willing to see other ways and styles...hit me up

fish for bait love it
I have found that if you put a trap in a deep hole you will get much bigger minnows than if you put it in a shallow run. Which is good too. The slabs tend to like the big ones better.

T says she think I posted the video a long time ago but we can't find it and I'm thinking its on an old SD card and cant locate it so what ill do is create a new one... The crazy thing about it is there are some places we fish minnows is not the best thing to fish with at all .... I have literally seen with my own see jigs beat minnows 10 to 1 smh then the very next day cant get 1 on the jig you need minnows lol man crappies are crazy bro for real...
Lol. Seems like it’s unpredictable like that sometimes.
I’ve never used these traps cause I didn’t think they would catch many but I will now thanks to you!! I like the biggest ones for catfish also. Thanks for the video. Crappie Town Baby !!!👍👍

Bet,,, hopefully I will have some pictures soon. It's been really wet this summer. But it's leveling off the big ones are coming in.
In addition to the bread used in the trap, I've used half an onion which adds scent to the bait trap.
You can't take one more degree?
Lol.
Are you in peace with Lord Jesus Christ then?
Cuz down there it's real hot!!!
Hahahahahaha Good Lawd cant do it brother!!! Thanks for watching appreciate you indeed
Just like heating with wood, FOR FREE 😂🤣😂🤣‼️
After simply purchasing the chain saw ($350.00), skid loader ($5,000 - used), 4wd pickup ($4,500 - used), and heater, chimney, etc. ($1,000 to $20,000), you can dial up the thermostat to 80°F on them -20°F evenings and bask in the warmth of all that "free" heat!! (That's not counting all "free": exercise and time it takes to get the wood from tree to hearth!)
The above was what flashed through my mind as soon as you pulled that rope out of all the "free" stuff it took for the "free" bait ❗L. O. L.!! I purely enjoyed your video and appreciate your efforts 👍😉
Hahahahahahahaha. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 that was funny brother and true!!!!! I know exactly what you mean... Its free after you spend a million on this hahahahahaha man you got me cracking up!!!! Appreciate you commenting and watching... Keep in touch brother!!!
"...She'll find out when the video comes out hahaha...." thats the exact line that got me to subscribe, good tips too never thought about cover before. Thanks.

Great tips. I subscribed right after the joke about you are supposed to be painting. 😂
I like your idea and tip on using fishing line cuz I had someone steal my bait trap like that last year went to check it and it was gone.
99 % degrees, but you still provide a great video 📹 👍
"can't take one more degree right now, can't take one mo!" hahaha
im supposed to be painting! wife gonna get that backside brother hahahaha love it!
Every 30 mins throw a single ice cube. That way you can regulate the temp. Lol as we all know. Down here in Fla it gets hot quick. Lol great video man
Thank you for the educational video! I'm 73 and enjoy catching my bait! Night crawlers on a rainy night or minnows on a sunny day? As much fun as catching fish? Thank you sir!
Want to keep them alive longer just use the same bait trap you use to trap them in put a trap door on top use them as needed when done with the days fishing release any not used (it helps to store in shaded areas water as deep as 2 feet)
