    Nice video! A tip for the DIY types: you can make a minnow trap by taking a 2L bottle, cutting off the open end, turning that end around, putting it inside the back half of the bottle, and securing it with some packing tape or whatever (use you imagination). You have to discard the cap first, obviously!
    If you wanted to get fancy you could make a double-ended trap with two 2L bottles.

    Yes, nice informative video. Just make sure it's legal in your state to catch bait and transport them to a different body of water and use. Transfer can lead to spreading zebra muscles, bass virus, invasive species, etc. Its a big no no here in Missouri. Also no no in Arkansas. Just try to catch your bait in the same body of water you will fish and you'll be ok.

    great video...I been fishing for 50 years and still learned some things that I never thought of...like clear fishing line so your line will give away your trap ( where I set my traps children do not steal my bait, adults do...which causes me to set out and run traps at night)...using bread for bait, I always use a handful of Walmart brand dry dog food and it not only draws minnows it draws crawdads ( one craw in the trap and you will get very few or no minnows)...and taking an air pump with my 5 gallon bucket (just like you said, wild minnows will die FAST)...thanks for the video...

    Nice video man. I know it's difficult to keep the minnows alive when it's so hot, even harder to keep some ice on hand. I read this tip in a Field & Stream magazine when I was a kid; place a lid with small holes drilled in it on your minnow bucket and drop a couple of ice cubes on top every so often. The cold water dripping into the bucket will keep the minnows alive and lively!

    Lol, for years I used those traps. I took the bread and rolled it into balls to bait the traps. Ty. Good video. My grandfather often put some ice in after getting the bait. He had a nice size Jon boat and set out hundreds of hooks on trot lines. As a minister in a rural South Georgia poor community, he often helped him feed his congregation. He always taught us not to take more than we need. It didn’t have to be for supper that night, a good catch could last for months. CCCC catch it, clean it, cook it, (I added one more for my son) consume it.

I don't know why but thats what I have found. Another tip! Use dry dog food for bait. Buy the cheapest store brand stuff you can get. will a frozen water bottle set in the water with the minnows help them live a little longer. Also I think Academy sales some stuff that's called bait saver pogey saver little bitty pellets that you drop into the water it takes all the ammonia and stuff out of the water I guess you can look into that keeping the minnows alive

    • @crappiesniper
      @crappiesniper  Před 5 lety

      Yes indeed ..i use water bottles all the time but you have to be careful that you dont temperature shock them and they will die by the hand full.... You dont want to temp to be extremely colder or warmer than the water you are putting them in to fish... If so you would want to mix the lake water in with your minnow water to get them use to that temp...

      @markdavis1141 Před 5 lety

      Never use tap water but instead the water you caught the minnows in. Some type of cover placed in the bucket and the pump works fine. However, I place my minnows in the fridge upon my return from fishing (from this experience, they kept for two weeks).

    Thanx for making this video. I actually got some tips from this. I never used a minnow trap, but I have known several who has and they never really got many with them so I never bothered. The bread is a good tip on getting them in there which no one I've known used anything. Just the trap. Thanx again for sharing.

    If you have a large tire tube push one end it into the water a little. Then push it up onto land 6 feet or so. I start out about 6 feet from land to sneak up on them. Let the water out and wallah a few minnows. I did that as a kid on the private beach and got 4 to 6 each time. They are easy to see flapping in the sand. They love shallow areas that big fish stay away from. I could see them hanging out all the way up to the edge of the water to the beach trying to find food that the little waves pulled in. No need to store or worry about killing minnows off by suffocation or over heating in the sun. Just throw the minnows back that you did not put on a hook. Plus if you have kids, they can help you while they play. If you want to keep a bunch just put them in a minnow cage, tie a line to handle and let the cage sink into the lake. You can tie it to a dock or side of a boat and pull up any time you need a new minnow.

    Have you tried modifying your slip cork? Basically I remove the yellow tips from stem and replace with a 1/8 diameter, 1/16-1/8 grip range rivet on both ends. Can get at Ace Hardware or any hardware store. Found that it allows your cork to set up a lot quicker and no worries from line break due to grooves wearing into the top and bottom of cork stem. If rivets won't fit snug then use a drop of super glue and place around base of rivet before inserting completely in stem. Trust me, you'll fall in love with it. Hopefully you'll do a video introducing this technique, very popular here in MS. Almost forgot, if you can't get line to feed through simply use a bigger and more sturdier piece of line and tie to your regular line and feed through until you see your line. Remove thicker line and rig up as you normally would. I usually use (2) #3 split shots and (1) 1/16oz Sickle Jighead with about 6 inches between weight and jighead. For depth control and before placing cork on line, you want to put on a slip knot tie (the green nylon ones from Walmart) and a small bead (comes with ties). You're rig will be in this order from rod tip: Slip Knot tie, bead, cork, weight(s) and jighead. I'll send a photo to your email.

    Just like heating with wood, FOR FREE 😂🤣😂🤣‼️
    After simply purchasing the chain saw ($350.00), skid loader ($5,000 - used), 4wd pickup ($4,500 - used), and heater, chimney, etc. ($1,000 to $20,000), you can dial up the thermostat to 80°F on them -20°F evenings and bask in the warmth of all that "free" heat!! (That's not counting all "free": exercise and time it takes to get the wood from tree to hearth!)
    The above was what flashed through my mind as soon as you pulled that rope out of all the "free" stuff it took for the "free" bait ❗L. O. L.!! I purely enjoyed your video and appreciate your efforts 👍😉

    Want to keep them alive longer just use the same bait trap you use to trap them in put a trap door on top use them as needed when done with the days fishing release any not used (it helps to store in shaded areas water as deep as 2 feet)
