The stones covered under the feet of Shiva became shaligram
In Shaiva culture, it is said that Shiva, wherever he passed, all the stones and pebbles coming beneath his feet, on which he received grace, they started developing. They say that they have a complete era in their development.
An era is about 84,000 years old. It is a different way of measuring, which is related to the human body. So they developed for 84,000 years and became shaligrams.
Not every round stone is called shaligram. If you are sensitive, you can take it in your hand and feel the difference between a simple stone and shaligram.
Perhaps you know that this universe is constantly spreading? Have you seen pictures of galaxies? In Shaligram, a symbol of the ever expanding universe is naturally inscribed.
The Yogi sometimes used to show the symbol people by breaking Shaligram. It is a very powerful piece of stone. If people know how to use them, then they have a very strange effect.

The grace of Shaligram gives different directions to life
Sadhguru: Look, if you go to any shop in front of a Shiva temple then you can buy hundred shaligrams. But they are not shaligrams, they are simply oval stones. You know that when children go to the beach or to the river, then they like to collect stones there, even the elders too. That's why there are millions of such stones in millions of homes. They are not all shaligrams. Their size is exactly the same, because most of the stones are shaped due to the water flowing through the river.
The real shaligrams are very few Maybe you have your feelings attached to what you have, okay. It matters nothing to you, no matter what. I am not saying that throw it away. You do not have to fear him, because I'm sure you are not living in the favor of a Shaligram. When you have a shalagram, things happen in a special way. He will run away from you. The faster you can run, the faster you will run faster. He will take you in a different direction.
Problems started with Shaligram
I have half of a shaligram, I tell you how he got me. A family was passing through many problems. This was going on for ten to twelve years.
They did not understand what to do, then they came to me. When he came to me, I asked him, 'Is there any idol or something in your house?' Shaligram freed the effect of Dhyanalinga process

hello I'm from Nepal. saligram is found in gandaki river only in Nepal. also I would like to remind you saligram represents the divine form of lord vishnu, absolutely not shiva. You are not allowed to present wrong information to the mass. if you really wish to give something religious and logically correct fact, then first try to do a little bit study about the truth. Yes what akash adhikari said is true.. shaligram can be worshipped by any one all it needs is tulsi and water thats it... (if you can offer much more you can) sadhguru isn't a vaishnava. There are certain rules for different paramparas one should not comment if one doesnt know about shaligrama.. sadguru can be intelligent person but not a spirtual master for all..

As far I know shaligram is blackish oval stone and is representing lord vishnu. Where as browish oval stone represents lord Shiva.
Once I went odisha bhubneshwar to visit lingraj temple where a big stone broken into two halves were worshiped as a symbol of lord vishnu and lord shiv.
It was symbolic uniformity of two lords so, we Hindus should not argue for the two different powers.
Shaligram is lord vishnu and also lord shiv ,too, it depends on you which form of power you want to warship or you are devoted to.

...Referring to your the 1st para, may I humbly offer you a point that Lord Shiv becomes happy when he is offered Naivedh/fruit with Tulasi leaves. Same rule applies to Sri Hanuman ji also. You could kindly read the Ramayan when Devi Sitaji had invited Hanumanji over dinner once a time in Ayodhya and there was trouble until Sri Ram suggested Her to offer a Tulasi leave to satisfy Hanumanji's hunger...Kindly forgive me if I misunderstood your point.

With great respect to u I like to inform that saligram doesnot represent shiva. Shiva's representation is "LING", & that of Vishnu is "SALIGRAM". Also the availability source of Saligram is not at any sea shore or at any rivershores or at kailas(as stated by you). It is ONLY at the riverbank of GANDAKI that too only inthe stretch of MUKTHINATH in NEPAl. Also it is a proven fact by many great personalities that just the presence of Saligram can influence +ve energy & removes negetivewness around it. Sadhguru dont give mis information, Sanantan Dharma based on Ved, upanishad, puran & samhitas. Saligram is Bhagavan Vishnu according to Padma, Skanda, Brahmavaivarta puran and in Veda all mantras are given to worshiping Shaligram is glorifying Bhagavan Krishnacandra or Vishnu.
Sadhguru u r creating again an era to reject Sastra and follow someones speculation.
