Float Fishing from the Pier

In this video I am float fishing and spinning from the Pier using a sea fishing float rig and on my spinning rod i am using a silver minnow lure.
The conditions seemed ideal for float fishing but the fishing was cut short by thunder and lightning later in the evening.

Great to see shields pier on these vids. The kit kat shop has a supply of baits and terminal tackle for those who run out, just a five minute walk on ocean rd from the bottom of the pier.

After watching this last night went to tackle shop today picked up a float kit or two and boom 4lb bass 1st fish on a float in the sea, nice one mate for the tips

Can i ask a dumb question please? I am going to Brixham in a few weeks and will be taking a telescopic carp rod and some sea floats. What baits can i use if i can’t get the likes of lugs / mackerel etc? Is there any “off the shelf” baits you could suggest please? Thanks.

hi jason , take some spinners with you mate loads of mackerel down there at the moment chap, a couple of good tackle shops there too .if no luck go to the local coop and get some frozen prawns give them a go

If you can't get mackerel from the bait shop you can use the mackerel from the supermarket if they have any, you could also use prawns and mussels.

got me 1 of them auto hooking floats of the net tested it on 1 of my carp waters it works well just need test it sea fishing but seems like itl work well

Great video, shame about the storm. What floats do you use for night fishing or is it end of session when you cannot see your float anymore, there must be away to float throughout the night, regards

Thanks Dave, I usually just end the session when I cant see the float anymore but I think you can buy floats with lights on or you can just tape a rod tip light to the float if you wanted to night float fish.

Hi try casting in all different directions and fish at different depths until you find them.

Look for the boil, that’s mackerel hunting. That’s where you want to cast to.

What was the depth of your float set at ?...

I set it at different depths as the tide comes in and goes out i usually start by setting it at 6 foot then adjust it as needed.
