      @@sergebishyr i did, ukraine means borderlands or marches (source: google) so you will have to say 'the ukraine' to be grammatically correct. saying 'it is ukraine' is like saying 'it is netherlands' (netherlands means lower lands in germanic languages) which are both grammatically incorrect

      ​@@pessiandpenaldomoments@pessiandpenaldomoments First of all, the etymology of Ukraine comes from the word "lands," not "borderland." The myth about "borderland" is popularized by russia and is absolutely false. You can read the article "Ukraine" and see both versions with the explanation.
      Besides that, no matter the etymology, it is the name of a country as well as Portugal comes from the name of the port, but the country's name is Portugal. And the same stands for Ukraine. Ther is no "the".
