The Photos App on your iPhone is super powerful, but I reckon most people don't really know how to use it (that's certainly the feedback I get, when I speak to 99% of iPhone users). So in this video, we're going to take a deep-dive into the Photos app for iPhone.

Brilliant! Thank youâ€
yes I did .. thanks ..
I have an acquired brain injury so I use my iPhone to capture images of my day to day, so that I can aid my short term memory issues. Itâs been an absolutely essential tool for me to use so that I can find my car or have visual cues to access my memories. I love the memory videos my iPhone can collate for me, I honestly donât know what I would do without my iPhone camera, and the simple things the Photo App can perform is perfect for me.
Your video was great, giving me a few things I didnât already know about. Iâm in Australia, and the sparkle âš info tab works here too. I like to find out the names of plants and that works brilliantly. I love that Live Photo tip you shared too for setting as Wallpaper đđœâ€ïž
Iâm also in the ABI community and your tip is excellent to help with our common memory issues. Iâll be sharing it with my friends with ABI.
I hope you may heal from your injury. I had one many years ago from a bad bicycle crash, and my short-term memory and spatial awareness was literally gone. It did take about three years, but those functions have rebuilt. The brain has the capability to rewire (plasticity), albeit slowly. Rest and recover. Good luck to you!
@@ktkt1825 thank you so much for your kind wordsâŠitâs a long process for sure , but the brain is an absolute marvel â€ïž
@@julz63 You are welcome. Be kind and patient with yourself- the progress is very gradual, but it helps to work toward the goals of capable normalcy to retrain new pathways. After my incident, I went on to take Judo for 8 years, earning a Black Belt. My concerns about even one concussion are offset with greatly improved balance and 'falling well'. Take care, and All the Best.
Whenever I take photos of my very young kids, I always use the burst option. Then in the Photos app I can easily select the photo within the burst where theyâre both looking, or smiling, or thereâs no blur. Then I can discard the other photos and I almost always get a good photo from my kids.
The iPhone also makes suggestions on what they think the best photos of the burst are. Theyâre usually pretty spot on, too.
Nice tip. Worth saying that the burst mode can be activated by holding on the take photo button for those who arenât aware and want to try burst.
@@simonknight2973 that actually changed with iOS 15. If you just hold down the photo button it takes video now. You have to hold down the photo button and quickly slide your finger to the left to take a burst. It was an awful change.
You could also instead just shoot a Live Photo and quickly find the frame that is best looking. No need to overpopulate album with burst of almost identical photos.
@@user-ym6lc7pk1e I agree. Much more convenient.
Iâve never known how to use the photo burst once theyâre taken. I go into my photos and itâll say 10 photos but how do you actually see all 10 to scroll through like you say? I tried clicking on the words for burst. I try holding the photo I canât seem to get the set of photos to come up?
Very helpful, thank you. One thing I found out about recently is that in order to search for photos by text included, you canât do this from the photo app. Instead you have to go to your Home Screen and swipe downward to access the general search box.
it works perfectly fine for me from the search field inside the photos app
Thanks, Iâve always been a âscrollerâ and frequently give up. Time for some thought about organisation.
That's the best 20 minutes I've spent at my computer ever! Thank you very much. Going to check if you have one for managing/sorting through over 20,000 images
I wasted 20 minutes of my life
A tutorial about Photo Duplicates would be nice. Your videos are so helpful, easy to follow, and really work. Well done!
You had me at immediately at the start, âTap library to go back to newest photosâ! Whoa! This saves me a lot of time not have to scroll all the way down !
I am amazed! yes i'm old and still learning the simpelest things on my phone so i am so happy to have found this channel Thank you so much
I know right! He just helps with so many tricks and it feels like I donât know my phone enough
I wish that when you added a photo to an album, it MOVED it instead of duplicating it! It would seem to be the most basic of organization forms to me. Great content and presentation, thank you!
One final tip that most people donât seem to know about - DELETION of 80-90% of the crap that doesnât need to be saved, either because it was a quick reminder of task that has already been completed, of a few dozen images of the same thing taken âjust in caseâ the first one wasnât good enough. Choose the good one, then trash the rest, people!
I'm guilty of this too in fairness, I used to be good at going back through old photos and deleting (usually if I had a random bout of insomnia or something) but haven't done it in a LONG time now.
@@ProperHonestTech - I am also guilty of this! Now, I have so many photos and no time to delete the near duplicate photos. đ
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. There is so much to learn for someone like me who is in her 70's. Your video is very helpful. I hope to be able to apply your instructions well and make use of the photos app better.
I didn't know at least 90% of this! Now I might get around to organizing photos enough to not embarrass myself (non)locating an individual photo to show a friend.
A most articulate presentation. I am very impressed by the content, your superb delivery, and the top notch production values.
Thank you!
Brilliant tutorial!! Will definitely be watching this multiple times. Thank you!!!
Great vid! Like the filters on the Library tab. Hereâs one for you - swipe up on any photo > go to the bottom > âShow in All Photosâ = great for when you want to see more photos from related to a âFavourited photoâ
Great video. On thing that was not covered was in the markup section. In addition to the pens, pressing the + button allows you to add stickers, description, add text, signature, or shapes.
I've been using an iohone on and off for a decade now and this video had some really useful things I never knew. By the way, I love how you tied the square space ad into the video. Ive used them before and they are awesome. Keep on going my friend. You have a very calming voice that makes your videos very nice to listen to while experimenting with my iphone.
Iâm on my fourth video and all are now saved to Favorites folder. Each topic so clearly explained without the theatrics some use in videos. Keep up the great work.
Absolutely spectacular information, always delivered clearly and with simple-to-follow steps. I always learn something when viewing your programs. Thanks from Canada.
Great tips as always. Just one thing that I only discovered recently - with a Live photo you can pick and choose which frame you want as your key photo with the icon just next to the adjustment setting. Very useful if you take a nice photo of someone but theyâve blinked at the wrong moment!
THANK YOU. I couldnât find it so thought it didnât exist. Found it nowđ
Can you do this with videos to? I have a ton of videos but the first half second is usually black so I have to click into every single one to find the video Iâm looking for. Is there a way to choose the icon?
Haha, âkind of like the shoe box under your bedâ. So true. Love any tips about finding photos better. I have lots of albums.
Excellent tutorial! Straight to the point, clear audio, good visual instructions, well organized. Thank you! This was very helpful!
So much information here. Iâll have to watch this about 2 or 3 more times.
This is the best video tutorial Iâve seen on the Photos App. Many thanks!
You should also have noted the slider control on the magic wand. It does wonders in tuning the wand, both to the left and the right. An often overseen tool.
oh wow! Thanks for that.....just checked it out and it works really nicely!đ
I have to go back and check the contents of the video to see what you mean.
I love this video. Several things were shown that I didn't know. I accidentally discovered (had a thought, experimented, it worked) that if you add a caption to the photo you can search for a word in the caption. Thanks for the reminder đ Good stuff over all
This was so cool, thank you. Iâm 61 years old so I didnât grow up with this technology and itâs great to have it explained so well that even I can understand it!
Glad it was helpful!
Another good one! One thing I don't like about photos is the default sort with most recent at the bottom. Should be the opposite, most recent at the top!
Yeah, I think I agree with you - although I now feel like I'm so accustomed to the current sort method, I'd struggle to adjust.
That "Live Photo as Wallpaper" is incredible. Subscribed!
Albums have been so helpful especially for screenshots.
It amazes me how much there is to learn no matter what I thought I already knew. You do a great job of explaining relevant functions. Thanks! Just subscribed.
Great overviewâŠthanks! I always enjoy your videos!
This was an incredibly informative video. As you said, I, like many of your audience, probably make use of the Photos app almost daily. I was unaware of about 75% of the functionality of this very powerful app until I watched this. Thank you very much!
Absolutely love your channel! Very informativeâŠ
This is so helpful. I never knew I could do all this with photos. I have subscribed. Your tutorials are so easy to follow. Thank you
I have been waiting years for this app to become manageable in iOS. The freedom to drag albums into folders is so basic, so fundamental and necessary, I just shake my head that it STILL doesnât exist.
You can use third party apps, that are synced with your cloud like âphoomâ
@@Knastig That app is also so damn bad and hard to use
This was so very helpful! I really appreciate your channel so much! Cheers from Texas!
Another amazing, concise video. Well done.
This broadcaster is Tom Wells, and he does some of the very best broadcast in podcasts regarding Apple products on the Internet. He is simply very very good at what he does. Kudos!!
Thank you! đđ»
Great video! Very thorough. I didnât know about the text select thing so thatâs gonna be awesome! đđ»
Thank you so much! I learned so much about navigating the photos app that I didnât know before.
Amazing!! Your video will have me looking like an experienced iPhone user and i just switched 3 months ago. Thanks for the lesson.
Great synopsis of the photo app. New to me was the Live Photo as a wallpaper; loved it!
This was really well put together and enjoyable to watch. Good stuff!
Like most things on CZcams found by accident and just happened to explain exactly what I didnât know in a very careful delivery so as not to confuse.. certainly got presentational skills to put it across as well as all the `tech stuff â. Added to subscribe and the weekly newsletter . Thank you
Came across this video NOW!! Thank you for the info :)
Brilliant video! Subscribed. Iâm a power user and even I learned a few great tips so thank you! I always remember where I took a photo more-so then when I took it, so I actually use the map feature a lot to help find and navigate my huge library. This is in addition to loads of albums and folders. iOS 16 search is crazy good being able to find the smallest text in some unexpected (yet always accurate) locations. I have found that feature immediately beneficial! I just wish I could move albums between folders and have more high level file management editing options within the Photos App. Thanks for the video - keep it up!
Thank you your presentation is exactly what I needed. You spoke well and clearly. I received a lot of information. Thanks for sharing. Meri
I love the hidden feature! I've been looking for something like this for a while. I want to keep all my photos, but it stresses me out seeing how many I have and seeing them all appear at once. I love being able to hide all old photos and focus only on the most recent ones - feels like I'm making space for the future. Thank you!
This is a fine presentation full of top information and Tips about the photo app. Finally I can use it properly. It`s a whole new nowâŠ. Thank you PHT â€
Great content. Really helpful. Keep going
YES.
This is priceless information- thanks đđ
Thank You ! Very well done⊠helpful đđ»
Great video! Itâs crazy how much is in an app. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable, but I see tons here in the video that I had no idea. Humbling.
I really wish we could have a way to search for uncategorized photos. After a while using the app, we accumulate trash or duplicate pictures, or forget to add that last photo to its specific themed album. I would like to have this option available to quickly sort the new and forgotten content into its specific categories.
100% agree
Great video, learned a lot. Thanks!
Thanks very much > I learned alot. We explained and clear .
Man, I love this channel!
Wow! Thank you so much for all this information.
Great video content, delivery and closed captions. Well done! Your comment that I canât move already created albums into folders was a BIG help. Iâve quit wasting time trying to figure it out. I agree it definitely should be an option especially on an iPad. Does iPad Photos have any differences from iPhone?
Lots of great tips. Thanks so much!
Very helpful, thank you!
Just changed over to iPhone so these videos are great. Thank you.
Hello from Phoenix Arizona USA. Great video! Thanks for all your hard work. Iâve subscribed
Excellent presentation. Wonderful information, pleasant voice, articulate, and knowledgeable trainer.
Excellent presentation. Thanks.
Youâre production values, script and advice are so thoughtfully and excellently put together. Great work. Will now be sending to all family members who ask for âtech supportâ before going to their houses. Thanks

Wow, I learned so much from this video!
One of the best tutorials for the Photos App Iâve seen!
Excellent, thanks for sharing.
Excellent video man keep up the good work!
Outstanding info! Thank you!
Wish I had known about folders sooner. Iâve started now though. Thanks! đ
IOS 16 will allow you to lock the hidden album. Finally we will be able to properly hide all our dirty photos đ
đđđ
Phew!!
Itâs so embarrassing when people see pics of a dirty room or car
Yeah not organise them into folders though
@@MaxPowers1245 Maybe in another 10 years Apple will facilitate that đ
Thanks for this! I am trying to clear up space in my iCloud, specifically with my photos. I donât want to lose any, but canât figure out how to do save some safely. Can you do a video on that? Thanks
Very informative. Nice production.
Great Info thanks
That's great - I am new to iphone and this will get me off and running
Very educative & informative video. Well explained. Thanks
Thank you, I learned a lot. Your video was very helpful.đđ
Great video! You can also get the information pop-up screen by swiping up while viewing any photo.
Great video & tips galore! Thx
JUST WOW, thanks man!!
Excellent video. So easy to follow. Tk you.
Great info, learned a lot of new options.
Great Video. I wouldn't never know that 'Photos' had so many features. Thanks and I shared this video
Useful tips. Informative video. Good đ
Very helpful, Thanks for sharing.
Thank you đ really helpful â€
To the point. Useful. Thank you.
Amazing info , thank you bro
Glaring omission is that iphone photo albums can't be shared outside the iphone ecosystem, ie; your android friends don't have icloud accounts or access to icloud albums or multiple pics/vids.
Best way to share is with Google Photos, better search and photo organization plus original quality pics and vids can be shared across multiple platforms via links
Thanks for information
Awesome, thank you
Came across this video by accident. It has been so helpful since I did not know half of what was possible.
Thanks
Great advices! Very thoughtful and helpful. I'm looking for how to stop a single image in video then turn it into photo. Thanks.
Great video as usual. My one wish for the photos app would be a way to force updates from my cloud photos to my MacBook Pro. Sometimes it takes hours for a photo to make its way from my phone to the Photos app in my MacBook, and I can't figure out a way to force the update.
Great and useful tutorial. Thanks a lot.
Thank you so much for such a comprehensive explanation of how to use all the photos features. One thing Iâm still curious about is do my captions get saved with the photos and if I send a photo to someone else does my caption stay with it? An example would be if I identify people in the photo can others see it too? Back in the analog days the equivalent was writing on the back of the photo.
