  • In this video, I show how to remove and replace the digitizer on the screen of a 2004 through 2009 Prius. It is important to note that the screen itself works, but has only failed to respond to touch. This video assumes you know how to get out the screen, but if enough people reach out in the comments and ask, I will make a video on that as well.
I ordered the digitizer on eBay for like 15 or 30 bucks! Much better than paying $350-$450 for the screen assembly!

What if the screen doesn't work?

You’ll need a new screen. Hard to get and not cheap. Might as well replace the whole unit

@@DrewGarage I’m confused. Drew, didn’t you say you got a new screen on eBay for about $15? Also, I guess I’m also confused by saying “the screen works but doesn’t respond to touch.” A touchscreen that doesn’t respond to touch certainly isn’t working. But do you mean it hasn’t gone black? My situation is: mine shows the display appropriate to the side button I hit, but doesn’t respond to touch most of the time. Sometimes after driving a while it’ll start working, unpredictably. But also sometimes it shows a messed up image of vertical lines, and other times a fizzy, snowy distortion.

I doubt this will help you but just leaving it here for anyone else who comes across this video: I just completed this job and the LCD (the part that shows the pictures) Is a separate component from the digitizer (the part that records touch input). So in your case, If there’s anything at all wrong with the image itself, replacing the touch component will not help. As the author of the video mentioned, you’ll likely need a new unit entirely since the LCD isn’t easy to find as a standalone part.
