- The new #Disney #Pixar movie Lightyear is finally out and to celebrate Disneyland brought a the new animated live action #ToyStory Universe Buzz Lightyear to Tomorrowland for lots of meets and greets! Its weird... like why this costume? Of all the things. Did we watch the same movie?

I’m so confused by this Buzz. He’s a good looking guy in a space suit that’s supposed to be Buzz’s. That’s all I take from it. He looks nothing like Lightyear’s Buzz!!! I’m all for them trying to hire someone as a face character, but at least get a little of the physicality right.

I love the idea that Star Command sent Buzz Lightyear on a snack run to Disneyland. That's the most amazing reason to send and use of Buzz's time.

Also I still find it funny just how hung up Dan is on Goofy's hat sticking out of the 1970s spacesuit when Mickey has his ears out. 😂
What some guests might find confusing is that they will meet this Buzz in Tomorrowland, then a hour later they head into Pixar Pier and meet the toy Buzz.
I think its a good move making this a face character as it's only Merida from Pixar that's face character, but I dunno I think something has to change on it
Super agree. It’s weird that Carl, Russell, the Incredibles are all costumed characters and this Buzz isn’t. They’re humans, the Toy Story characters are toys and therefore look like toys. Merida is part of the princess line so of course she is a face character with the fun wig and all, but this was an odd choice for sure. I never understand the logic of which characters are full costume and which are face characters, especially with some of the villains.
@@LorNrocks The Incredibles should be face characters definitely. Villains like Hook, Jafar and Frollo would make great face characters
@@LorNrocks if they hypothetically had Joe from Soul, I could see him as a face character. Heck, Luca and Alberto could work as face characters, too (as humans, of course)
The detail work on the spacesuit is great, but you put a Ken doll in there and expect me to believe it's Buzz Lightyear? Full mascot costume, please!
I think more than anything my problem with this costume is that the cast member is too skinny. Buzz is a bit of a chunkyboi. He’s got that classic action figure, inverted triangle body shape going on. I think every other questionable decision they made with Buzz as a face character for the Lightyear tie-in (like the hair and corny churro banter) would be less weird if the guy just looked a little more like the character.
I guess what I’m saying is, I needed thicc Buzz and I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get him.

@@clownkid1515 face characters usually play more than one face character. they probably have a hard time finding a muscular dude to play him. the actor could double has prince phillip cuz many of them double as others. ik that actresses that play wendy also play alice
The only reason I can think they put live face Buzz in a suit different then his iconic suit, is because they intend to have Toy Story Buzz still appear and they don't want visual confusion.
It's also possible that the current costume was the only thing the costume dept had to work with while the film was in production.
Still, missed opportunity to put a normal guy in the standard Buzz costume... And I mean the Toy Story costume, with just a regular dudes head instead of the mascot style head.
A space suit costume like that probably cost $15,000 on the low end and they probably got at least two. There is a lot of involvement from higher-up executives in things like this. The exact shades of grey and purple and the size of the neck ring and the boots etc are all aspects that need to be approved. And then my guess is the project is outsourced to a third party specialty costume shop that go through an approval process and sign extensive Nondisclosure agreements. If I had to guess, I’d say Global Effects in Los Angeles built this suit because they’re the best as Space Suits and the design was selected from a line up of concept art by a design and merchandising team at Disney Parks.
I had nicknamed him "Hallmark Channel Buzz" just from the pics I saw. This makes it even funnier! I'm going in August, and I definitely need some Sox swag for a photo op.
They should’ve had Izzy Hawthorne as a walk around face Character. No other versions to compare her to, kids would be thrilled to meet her, and more POC rep in the parks. And I hope there’s a Sox AA in the works for a meet & greet opportunity.

It's clearly a Buzz imposter, since the real Buzz is millions of lightyears away without any way to travel at hyperspeed.

As a Buzz Lightyear cosplayer, Ive been cosplaying Buzz Lightyear for 6yrs in my 11yrs of non-profit charity work. I know how people react when they see me. I saw this cast member as Buzz because everyone tagged me IMMEDIATELY and said Im better than Disney Parks Buzz Lightyear! (I was bashful that I was compared to Disney Quality costuming and considered Better)
But to this cast member, it looked like they took Star-Lord and threw him into a Space Suit. And as you said the most forgettable suit in the entire movie, and they have 4 very good suits to pick from!!
Buzz's Coverall uniform. The Alpha Suit mk1 and 2. and his XL15 Space Suit.
As much as I want and love the suit they have better alternatives.

Man if you show me a picture of the meet and greet guy with no context, I would have NO idea that he's supposed to be Buzz Lightyear.
The one thing we can all agree about is this guy is HANDSOME AF! I know its a wig, but in my mind that's his real hair, because in all honestly it's exactly like my real hair. He is definitely Space Prince Phillip, but I'm here for it. I feel like they took the idea of Chris Evans being the voice, and tried to merge that into what Buzz would look like as a human. Would Buzz look like Chris Evans? I feel like that was the idea in the room. If the movie was a live action Lightyear starring Chris Evans, then yes, this would be the guy. Its an odd hybrid/meta character idea.
It perplexes me how this confusing version of Buzz Lightyear was quick to appear at the Disney Parks, yet Mei Lee and/or her red panda form from Turning Red has still not made any appearances at the Disney Parks, and Turning Red was released in March...
I really like buzz lightyear's spacesuit that he's wearing at Disneyland's Tomorrowland. It reminds me of the spacesuits from NASA.

I wish they could have had this buzz lightyear character at Disneyland's Tomorrowland to wear a purple head cover up, around his head. Just like from the movie lightyear.
To me it were to make sense that he wears that purple head cover up around his head, so that way some people and kids can be able to recognize him as buzz lightyear.

He would be so much cooler as a vague spaceman character like the residents of California adventure or the adventureland characters, but because Buzz lightyear is such a beloved character already, it feels like a bad imposter instead of a fun new character

This is like making a live action Buzz Lightyear series or film. Yes, I saw Lightyear in theatres and I saw it on Monday (3 days after it's release date in theatres).
No cause I would wait in line for him and I have no shame in that fact, honestly I'm kinda sad that I was just at Disney two weeks ago and missed him. Yeah it's just a guy in a space suit but it's funny that they basically just went up to a cast member and were like "here put this suit on, you're gonna be Buzz Lightyear" (they should've given him a Sox though, idk how it would work but at least then people would be more likely to recognize him. Also maybe the plain blue off duty suit, that could've been cool too). Imo it's like Jack Sparrow or one of the princesses, plus having toy Buzz and "human" Buzz would prob be confusing to kids. I just wish he was around when Chris Evans went and took pictures with the Pixar characters cause that would've been top tier omg
Edit: The reason they gave for him to be there had me dying, Buzz really traveled the galaxy to get some churros. Y'know what same, Disney please don't take away his meet and greet until I get an official picture of him with his churros

They need a few more of these costumes and instead of making them characters from the movie just make them a group of star command on patrol. Then there would be no need to make them look like the characters. It would be like the storm troopers except you can actually talk to them. Also Dan. Without the beard you would probably make a great buzz in the parks.

I'm so glad you mentioned that he's no longer at the Tomorrowland Terrace. I was there Sunday and only stumbled upon his new location when I went to ride Hyperspace Mountain. And got in line at 3, overheard Buzz would be back at 3:40... When I got off the ride and back over at 4, they'd capped the line and said he was done for the day. I honestly wonder if they only have the one performer approved.

God, I don't talk to Buzz with the human but I thought it cool. So strange for a new costume without the space helmet
I think what people want to see is more classic new movie Buzz Lightyear costume. It stands out, its familiar and while not 100% moveable, its what people want to see. Buzz shouldn't be saying he is there for snacks. That makes no sense. Specially in tomorrowland. Maybe say he's there to explore what future advancements the area/planet has to offer that star command could adapt for their missions. That would make a bit of sense.
The buzz lightyear you see in Toy Story is inspired by the ending scene of lightyear where mo, Darby, Izzy, buzz and Sox walk down that hallway talking about their suits.

it seems to me like they have the roots of a good character, but they just need some more touches to make this a good costume. i think giving him the hood that goes over his head (he can have some of his hair stick out is so desired) and maybe recoloring the space suit to his iconic color palatte but keeping the new design would be good. i haven't seen the movie (nor do i plan to, too many advertisements ruined it for me) but the actor chosen was a good choice imo ☺️

I hope they add action figure Buzz to see Actor Buzz. I mean he should be in Tomorrowland anyway.
I hope that buzz lightyear will come out in Disneyland Tomorrowland wearing his iconic white green and purple spacesuit very soon, even though his white spacesuit or his NASA like spacesuit is really cool.
I prefer that he wears his recognizable and iconic spacesuit in Disneyland Tomorrowland hopefully in the near future.
I actually called Disneyland Resort and told them about that idea, and I had to let them know to inform Disney character management to have buzz lightyear to wear his recognizable and iconic spacesuit for Disneyland's Tomorrowland.
Of course I hope that it will look like the same thing, that was shown from the movie lightyear. Where his spacesuit will be iconic with those green white and purple colors, but at the same time it will be realistic, accurate and serious sci-fi design to his iconic spacesuit. That's what I hope to see in the near future at Disneyland's Tomorrowland.
And at the same time I hope that some of the other space rangers can make appearances alongside buzz, because even though buzz lightyear is the number one character that myself and other fans want to see in Disneyland's Tomorrowland. It should be fair that the other space rangers can make appearances in Tomorrowland as well

Buzz in the movie gives the vibe of a popular-football player-mean colleague student and I think they should hire someone like that. Also, give him a haircut. And they should give him the New 1:1 Sox I saw. Izzy would be great to accompany him. The suit is cool imo.

I'm almost, ALMOST disappointed that they didn't try to make a helmet/mask out of the semi-realistic CHIN-MAN that they put into the actual movie. It'd be worth it just to see the dawning trauma in the eyes of small children.
