- Today we have a build for Sonic the Hedgehog in D&D 5e to celebrate the new movie, Sonic the Hedgehog! If you want to go fast, this is the fastest build you can make, combining some simple speed spells with the movement of a monk!

I mean to be fair, if they're gonna get eldritch spear chances are they're also going to get the Spell Sniper feat just for shits and giggles. So in two rounds you wouldn't be able to outrun them XD
@@The_Crimson_Witch Sure, you can't put yourself in safety, but your team will be safe. Then, there is still the option of dumping him in a lake or throwing him off a cliff. You cover so much ground, surely you'll find a favorable terrain feature sometime. Also, you can run up vertical surfaces at no penalty. Failing all that, you can still look for cover, or, you know, maintain the grapple so he wastes his action wriggling free from you.

I considered it, but youd lose some Unarmored Movement, and only get it once per short rest, so I decided for speed consistency!
You could get Haste from Eldritch Knight, but that's also quite a few levels off Monk despite saving the Bard dip.
Well, sonic did learn to use a sword in one game...

I'd say Amy's a Fighter/Mage/Cleric. Mostly because the way she summons her Pico Pico Hammer is exactly like how Spiritual Hammer works, and her tarot card hobby's underutilized in canon,so it would be nice to have her be able to use spells like Identify and Clairvoyance.
According to sources like Tvtropes, and the Sonic & Mario Olympic games, Amy's considered to be a J.O.A.T (Jack Of All Trades). Which helps balance the rest of the party out since Sonic's more akin to an Acrobat, Tails is a Mechanist, and Knuckles is a Monk. The down-side? Amy's hp gains per level-up are *pitiful.* We're talking around 3 hit points gained at best, so she's likely to get bopped by anything that resembles pure, raw strength.

@@retrofusion4429 I was speaking in terms of 2nd edition. That said, Acrobat isn't a class in 2nd edition. Neither is Mechanist, So Sonic would have to be a Swashbuckler, while Tails would be a pure Mage.

Hey, I just wanted to chime in to share my experience with using this build in a campaign. We are started from lvl 1 and have only just reached lvl 4, and let me tell you that even at low level *this build f@#%ing works.* All this speed plus the dodge action means people just ain't hitting you. Add in performance/persuasion/deception bonus action checks and you're usually drawing aggro before you have enthrall; you're just shit-talking enemies into hopelessly swinging at only you. Recently, I was able to help mitigate a boss fight with two large 100+hp magic-melee skeleton things just by keeping one pissed off at the other side of the room while most of the party handled the other. This build really does feel like you are playing the blue bastard himself.
I do think I'm going to deviate from the build path a bit and get lvl 5 monk before starting the bard levels. Stunning Strike, Extra Attack, and martial arts hitdie bumping up to d6s are too useful to wait 6 lvls of Bard for. I can be patient for Haste and Charger.
Just imagine adding the Boots of Speed to this build.

Diamond Soul is practically Super Sonic. Instant saves is almost like the invincibility from the form. Another option is dropping the Bard for Fighter makes you bulkier, and you can take Eldritch Knight for Jump, Absorb Element for the Elemental Shield effect, and Shield for the standard Shield. Combine the Shield spell, with Diamond Soul, and add maybe a fire, wind and dark spell, along with magic weapon to have the capability of having the book games powers with Super Sonic. Then you can also add unarmed combatant for a base 1d8 when making an unarmed attack to add with your monk die if you can.
Going Tabaxi was worth it, just for that "Uh... meow?" joke

Thankfully, the Monsters of the Multiverse revision of the Tabaxi allows you to be either Medium or Small, so now you don't have to compromise. You can have a quick AND short Sonic, and if your stat rolls allow for it, you can even pick up Squat Nimbleness on one of your ASIs for a little bit more speed, as a treat. It's almost like the designers watched this video and decided to make this build work even better than it used to.
I think swords bard would be good for sonic. As sword flourishes can be used on your unarmed attacks. Gives you some extra speed, extra damage, and effects that feel like sonic. You can shove a creature with one flourish, deal damage to an extra creature, and boost your AC for a round in case you can’t escape being in range of an enemy.
No matter how fast this build is, you can’t run away from the memories of Sonic fan fiction/fan art.

Caliburn is a one handed sword, long swords are 2 handed

Monks can use shortswords so that covers it nicely
@@jcdenton2187 well, with dedicated weapon from Tasha's actually that issue is solved and a longsword can be a monk weapon without kensei monk
Honestly the multitude of Actions mixed with the speed could make you an effective healer of you pick up Cure Wounds at 1st level in place of one of your other spells. Pick up the Healer Feat and you can use Cure Wounds and the Healing Feature on two separate creatures every turn.

Sub-optimal or not, this is still a Monk and a Bard. You have options and mobility. You basically have to allow things to target your AC to hurt you, and with your movement and free disengage, you never have to be in range for that to happen. I guess a Warlock with Eldritch Spear and Spell Sniper might be able to shoot that far, but that's really it.
You're also enough of a threat that people can't just ignore you. This is legitimately pretty solid.
Hey bro I just found this channel & I love what you're doing here. When I was a kid I couldn't get interested enough in D&D because I can never play as characters I like already, when it's really hard for me to develop attachment to things I create myself enough for roleplay. So for people like me this isn't just cute fun but a legitimate resource that can help us finally break the ice and get to enjoy D&D like everyone else. All that said, I hate to toss a request into this comment since I'm sure you get a million of them, but considering I begged my brother to do this for me throughout childhood & never got to do it, I can't pass up the ability to request: can you tell how to play Vegeta in D&D? I noticed there's a Piccolo, but Vegeta is my hyperfocus character.

Depending on how DMs rule taking multiple dash actions, its possible for a tabaxi to run at mach 3.

Edit: This speed requires you to not be one casting spells. You need other spell casters, magic items, and the rarely used divine boons.

A blue-dyed Tabaxi Monk-Bard known for his blinding speed and witty quips
This is reminding me of a character I blueprinted (designed the mechanics for but never got close enough to playing to set up the backstory) for Pathfinder. They could see through 20 feet of magical fog and any amount of non-magical fog, could make an item that would perpetually surround them with the basic fog cloud spell (20 ft. radius of magical fog - how convenient :P - that lasts a minute from its placement) and had shot on the run so that you couldn't track where in the cloud they were from where the shot came from. Also evasion and improved evasion, so even if you just nuke the entire fog bank they'll be fine. DPS was pretty mediocre, but enemies without enhanced senses would have very little chance of landing any return fire.
I wasn't expecting that raw DK rap reference, nice work.
Honestly, instead of Bard levels I would go with Wild Mage Sorceror. Pick Blade Ward, Friends, True Strike and Prestidigitation as your Cantrips, Jump and Expedititious Retreat at Sorceror 1, then Mage Armor to buff up defenses at S2, Charm Person (for that charisma) and Spider Climb (running up walls) at S3, Enhance Ability (Dexterity) at S4, and finally get Haste and Slow at S5, allowing you to both speed yourself up and slow down your enemies at the same time. Get Quickened Spell as your level 3 Metamagic, and continue as Monk from that point on. Boom, you've made a Sonic.

True strike is just you charging the light speed attack, and bardic inspiration is the old sonic says segments of the sat am cartoons, and deflect missiles is the instant sheild. This is unironically the best mash up of the diffrent versions of sonic, only missing that one time he used a sword and became king Arthur... all while moving just as fast and spinning with the sword, meaning we'd need this but with monk weapons instead, and maybe his occasional tornado moves and totally not power wave from king of fighters.

I knew that Sonic was going to be a Monk, but I thought his WISDOM would've been a bit lower, if not dumped because of his lack of patience. Also, if we had him as a full Monk, the Way of the Sun Soul would've given Sonic his Super and possibly his Hyper forms.
I love most of your builds (many of the manga ones I dont totally get as I havent watched the series). This I feel is the best build I feel at sticking as close to the source character. Excessive speed is the name of Sonic's game. The 6 levels of Lore Bard are exactly what I thought when I started the vid, specifically for Haste. And while sometimes, I feel you can force Jump into some builds (I know it's your favorite underutilized spell, lol) it seems completely justified here. Getting levels in a class just to do one thing (Haste/More Speed) is a VERY Sonic thing to do. Thank you, this looks incredibly fun to play. I hadn't considered Drunken Master, and it's a class I've been wanting to play. This makes it incredibly fun.

I have realized a very interesting thing you can do. A tier list of all the DnD subclasses. 99% of tier lists focus on the main class but completely ignore the subclasses.
The thing about this too is that it also doesn’t take into consideration of specific items to help that you can get by just adventuring or by your party member being an artificer and magical tattoos, like getting a magical tattoo to max out your Dex or Wis for more AC, and the getting boots of speed to then go even faster which if we were to calculate that if let’s say adding the double speed you get from the boots onto your max speed already that is 2400 feet of movement and maybe like one more magic item that can also make you faster if possible or what is probably even better getting something like Bracers of Protection or a ring of protection so you can have better AC since you basically already have a lot of speed in your hands, with those in mind, mega fast, mega powerful. And that’s without the Chaos emeralds being available.
