- Oliver Reed is now best remembered for the chat show appearances where he turned up apparently 18 sheets to the wind and made an arse of himself. It was not always so. When sober, he was a dream guest. Lucid, interesting, thoughtful, funny and a fund of superb anecdotes. Here he is in 1973, with Parky, Dame Isobel Barnett, and Mickey & Sherri Spillane. Remember him THIS way.
In 1973 we had people like Oliver Reed, Peter O'toole, Richard Burton, John Hurt and Richard Harris. In 2019 Gordon Ramsey is considered edgy. What a scandal! Ollie was like the uncle you hoped would be there on Christmas Day. Wonderful.
I liked Oliver Reed because despite all his flaws, he came across as an actual human being, and not like most other celebrities with their tightly controlled images, publicists and whatnot.
Anyone here a Greta Van Fleet fan...
We need people like Oliver Reed, it's rather dull without him.
That man was articulate. Today in age you will never find an actor who levels Reed's command of the English language.
One of the most beautiful speaking voices in the English language. Add to this intelligence, taste, a great gift and actually modesty... and Oliver Reed ain't bad, either! (God bless Isobel Barnett). Oliver Reed was a person who made the world a better place, actually.
He got my father very drunk at Brown’s Hotel in 1971 (and that was no mean feat). He was utterly charming to my mother....and me, aged 12. What a lovely man!
Love the way he is so gallant with Lady Barnett. People got Ollie wrong. A friend of mine whose dad knew him said he was a real gent. Very shy and generous. He played on the boozy thing but in reality loved been at home chiling out or walking his dogs.
He lived life on his own terms and was totally unrepentant. A great man with enormous charisma and effortless charm.
Imagine the woke crowd seeing him now.
I would cosider it an honour to be sworn at by this legend. Oh for a pint with him.
The charisma of Oliver Reed is a very rare trait. His magnetism is quite astounding.
He is a gentlemen and intelligent the late and great Oliver Reed.
The world is a darker place without stand out characters like this. A man who walked his own line. Great to watch.
What a truely facinating man he was, he had everything going for him, great looks, amazing charisma, superb speaking and acting skills, Charm, and a great sense of humour, yet still quite vulnerable and grounded, non of your typical hippocratic air head twirly acting types here!, i could listen to him all day, god bless you Ollie! RIP
Such a great conversationalist. No one tells stories like Oliver. I could listen to him speaking all day and never get tired of it.😊
Oliver Reed was a great actor, served his Country with National Service and a decent man. Although he liked a drink or two if he saw a person that needed help crossing the road he would help. Yes he was out spoken at times but that was part of his appeal.. R.I.P.
RIP Sir Michael Parkinson (March 28, 1935 - August 16, 2023), aged 88
In the top tier of actors, absolutely fantastic.
He was a true gent, easy on the eye ,well spoken and incredibly intelligent this interview given the state the world is in today makes you realise that nothings changed..Oliver Reed gone too soon :(
