If you look "opera" up in the dictionary, there's a picture of Pavarotti as Rudolfo, holding a high C. High C the note, not the kid's drink from the 80's.
There is something to this performance (the whole Bohème) that I find absolutely thrilling. Maybe because everything is so unpretentious: it is just a bunch of outstanding singers in a classic, unpretentious staging.
Two of the best singers ever, two powerful and beautiful voices, every time I listen to this piece I get goosebumps ❤️ These 31 dislikes don’t know anything about opera and perhaps are envious of their amazing voices, poor them 😂
Thanks for posting these... Ive been listening to these recordings for almost 30 years.... now I get to watch the great man perform them...thanks, you've made my year :)
It is so sad to see how much respect singers received merely 30 years ago, compared to the brief applause between acts today. Let alone to speak of the finale curtain calls, who are also degraded to the bare minimum in opera houses today.
Linn Viktoria Nilsen You're a finger pointer...You don't know me, my education, my age, or my music background. Yet, you judge....I won't get dragged into a fruitless conversation with a finger pointer. So, go fuck your yourself...👆👎
I'm not going to make the point of the difference of singers today and then, which I think is pretty obvious though many people don't agree (or perhaps pretend they don't). But in Germany, especially in selected Wagnerian performances, you can still find energetic applause.
My then-girlfriend and I got tix to a performance in this series. This was 1977, before the big Zeffirelli production. Fantastic Scotto and Pav. A few days later, a performance (which you see here) was telecast, I think the first Met telecast. We almost fell down laughing during the intermission when Scotto said, “hopefully President Jimmy Carter likes classical music and will give more money.” Sorry to burst anyone’s bubble, but Scotto and Pav really disliked each other. She took him to the cleaners in her autobiography.
And at the end Pavarotti produces high C unseen to the public. What a shame) I know that the libretto requires that, but man I would have liked to see that stunning high C being delivered from that extraordinary throat.
Well, Pava was Italian after all. It makes sense. God I suddenly miss him like crazy. I have always respected abd admired him but yesterday I bingwatches his best arias and god I fell in love. I wish I could see him in after life. Call me corny, but I don't care at all. 😅 The world lost so much when he passed away...
From Buffy season 2 e17 passion👍 Giles finds a note goes upstairs 0:20 and absolute shock when dropped the glass bottle breaks loud when finds Jenny dead on his bed 0:45 was just horror and intense😨!💔😔( murdered and carried her body to on his bed by villainous Angelus the soulless vampire🧛🏻😈👍
I only wish that I could afford to go to some of these performances! In my case I have to make do with Sky Arts HD channels and the ( excellent ) Hackney Empire by the South Africal Isango Ensemble! Tony Glazier
You won't hear better a Opera duo than this if you live 100 lives.
Pavarotti / Freni.
I think it my favourite piece opera.
If you look "opera" up in the dictionary, there's a picture of Pavarotti as Rudolfo, holding a high C.
High C the note, not the kid's drink from the 80's.
So beautiful, it makes me cry every time 😥
Best ever pair of Rodolfo and Mimi: Luciano Pavarotti and Renata Scotto! Why wasn't I born earlier?!
This performance has never been bettered.... pure excellence.
MONTSERRAT CABALLE and José Carreras are fabulous ,her mimi is the best ever ❤
Pavarotti / Freni.
Aw but ya gotta hear Placido Domingo and Monserrat Caballe.
Monserrat does things with her voice one would find to be humanly impossible.
@@judyjones2475OMG Yes.
Priceless.
I love this video. Two middle-aged people. so much in love.
I HEARD HER LIVE IN TOSCA, MY FIRST OPERA AT THE THEATER
I think Pavarotti is younger at this play. Well by the face cuz I have seen one which I like better with Freni.

I watched this performance on TV when it was live, in 77.
There is something to this performance (the whole Bohème) that I find absolutely thrilling. Maybe because everything is so unpretentious: it is just a bunch of outstanding singers in a classic, unpretentious staging.
An incomparable masterpiece.
and in the final notes the soul's wish to live completely in our ears
Quelle voix grandiose !

You'd have to have a heart of stone if this doesn't move you to tears.

Sometimes, not always , a song... a singer has a brief min in the sun ,when God watches, this was one of them ! Amazing

Musique magnifique !!!
Best couple ever!
Saw the Ellen Kent "La Boheme" at The Playhouse in Edinburgh last night and was reduced - yet again - to tears!
Amazing! O love this song. Pavarotti
Two voices in perfect harmony. I love singing Mimì thanks to Mirella Freni: her interpretation of this role is still the best!
very beatiful
Fremon nell'anima, dolcezze estreme, fremon dolcezze estreme...
Ah! I can't stop listening! :)

MnikM The caliber of singers today, is considerably less than 30 years ago. Hence the shorter applause.
I agree with you completely. The singers of yesteryear worked very hard at their art form, and it showed.

It's all about catchy music and simple beats. Real talent doesn't sell anymore.
If I ever get my upper register back, I’d love to sing this duet.
Superb. Bravo
O soave fanciulla, o dolce viso

Pavarotti, l’irremplaçable...
Agrada a tothom.
p,s, sung by CARLO BERGOZI and RENATA TEBALDI
Call me crazy...but it seems that Pavarotti is never better than when he has a woman in his arms while singing.
Not crazy, very right!

SCOTTO GREAT! PREFER FRENI🍎🥭
Io preferisco Callas Tebaldi De Los Angeles.
