My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.

    FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? Over four years now, holy cow.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: • Draw My Life
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: bit.ly/JaysGearList
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here: • Why I Want to Live in ...
Do you speak French? - Oui. • Un Jour en Francais (E...
Do you make money off CZcams? - Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $5/mo to help me make better videos: / jayswanson
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game): ko-fi.com/jayswanson
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. So instead people often drop off or ship things to the Peloton Cafe in Paris for me.
    Thanks for watching!

As someone who used to work in an art museum, I was totally yelling at the screen “Don’t touch the art, please!!!” And “Stay behind the line, please!!!” 😂 Getting nervous seeing your finger so close to the surfaces!

Love the Musée Carnavalet video monsieur, thanks for sharing its new look - one of the residences that make up the museum belonged to Mme de Sévigné (Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise de Sévigné) who was at court in the 1600's and if you ever find a copy of her letters (I've got one in English) they are a riot and will take you straight back to the time of Louis 14th.

What a wonderful visit to Carnavalet. Loved Jess's comments and the added lightness she brings to the vlog. "So bland in modernity" was appreciated as well, which I have seen in so many Roman, Greek and other cultures as compared to ours. Loved the presentation and the flow. We need more.

Thanks for the taster visit. I am so looking forward to visiting the Carnavalet. In the nearly 40 years I've been visiting Paris I've never got round to it & of course, the last 4 years have been a write-off. Not having seen the old museum I have no preconceptions about the renovation & it certainly looks exciting with all the interactive bits. I've been waiting until I have the time to do it justice, 3 hours still sounds like a quick spin. You could probably spend all day there. But definitely excited now. Thanks!

Restoration of any museum takes time. The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam took nine years to build. The renovation took 10 years, though their collection was also extended to incorporate the 20th century. The main reason why it took this long was a very Dutch thing. Bicycles always had access underneath the museum, it was a nice shortcut. The architect had to make that possible thus the plans were changed, today only pedestrians and cyclists have access to the tunnel.

Absolutely stunning and should be on all tourists itinerary! This museum was changed in 1989 from a storehouse to an educational institution for the general public costing 20 million dollars , much of it from American philanthropy. The Hotel Carnavalet (1545) is also the third oldest non-religious monument in Paris, after the Hotel de Sens (1475),and the Hotel de Cluny (1485) .The Renaissance Louvre was started only two years later.
