That's about as good as Southern Rock gets right there
"And I drank enough Whiskey to float a Battle Ship around" . One of my all time favorite lyrical lines.
Yea that one set my 20s back
@@mathewgladden8914fuck man… I took this one…
Definitely!
the eternal wisdom and lyrics of a "simple man", Ronnie Van Zant, r i p. Backed by one of the best bands ever ❤🔥🎸
It's about Billboard's bullets: when a song is charting it has bullets. It's tongue & cheek about a song losing its place on the charts & the singer losing his "bullets" in life. Give it a listen again. Remember the song "18 With a Bullet?"
Dude! I never knew that! I always thought they were talking about gun control! Lol!
And I always thought it was about Van Zant getting his shit together, quitting the whole booze/drug scene.
@@mcbeezee2120 It's about that too...he's lost his "bullets" just like a song on the charts. He wants them back
I've heard this story, and don't beleive it.
I find it hard to believe Skynyrd were very concerned about chart success let alone enough to write a song about it.
@@Incomudro1963 “There’s two types of bullets. There’s a bullet from a gun and there’s a bullet on the trade magazines - that’s the way it was meant.” Ronnie Van Zant
According to Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington in a 1992 Goldmine interview, this song is about the bullets Billboard charts use to signify a song is moving quickly up the chart.
"It was about ‘Gimme Back My Bullets’ in the charts, not about guns. But I remember doing that in concert when it first came out and people used to throw 22 shells and shotgun shells at us when we did it a lot and we’d get hit all the time with them, so we had to drop the song from the set because we were getting hit by bullets so much. I’m glad they weren’t shooting and they were just throwing them, but, it was kinda funny.”
Great reaction! Many people make the assumption that Gimme Back My Bullets is about gun ammunition. It's not. It's about chart hits. They wanted their songs to be back on top. Bullets refer to the icon next to a song on the charts. Peace and love.
True!! Thanks for posting that!!❤
Ronnie didn't like guns and thought hand guns should be "all thrown away". 🕊
I've heard this story, and don't believe it.
@@Incomudro1963 It is true. Gary Rossington talked about the song in an interview for a documentary. And since he is listed as a writer on the song, he would know. Aired on originally on CMT. Just watched the video the other day.
Can post link if you're still in doubt.
@@Incomudro1963 you can read it for yourself. It's common knowledge for any Skynyrd fan.
@@Incomudro1963 Then you've never listened to "The Lynyrd Skynyrd Story" with live interviews with the band recorded back in the 70's. The story came straight out of Ronnie Van Zant's mouth. The song was protesting against their record label trying to control their music. They also quit playing this song in concert because fans were bringing live ammo and throwing it on the stage during the song. It made walking very hazardous becaue the rounds would roll under their feet.
“ I’ve drank enough whiskey to float a battleship around”…. Classic.

Time to head down that Skynyrd rabbit hole. There are SOOOO many more songs that are FIRE
Every song on their first 6 albums are incredible, and the album LEGEND.
Please don't mistake the band that carries the name today, with the band that it was before the plane crash.
Can never go wrong with Skynryd. 👍👍
Lynyrd Skynyrd is my favorite southern rock band. Waylon Jennings is my favorite country music artist. With both, I can just put an album on and groove to every song on it.
Bullets on the Billboard charts. Ronnie lashing out at the Record Industry.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - On the hunt
Great songs on Lynyrd Skynyrd‘s first album, “Tuesdays Gongs”, “Gimme Three Steps”, “Simple Man” “Free Bird”. I was 15, in 1973 when this album came out and I was hooked, i’m 64 and I still listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
"Tuesday's Gone" 😉 I graduated from HS in '73 and like you I've been a Skynyrd fan ever since.
Check out “Needle and the spoon” or “On the hunt” by Lynyrd Skynyrd🎺💣🥁🧨
This song was popularly known as Lynyrd Skynrd's reaction to not being given a Billboard Chart hit, marked by bullets on the charts... back then.. Give me back my bullets... He is saying he is a hit maker and is not taking you ignoring it
When this song first released, I commented to some friends that it was ironic that the band who wrote "Mr Saturday Night Special" wrote this years later 🙃
My second favorite Skynyrd song, right behind "That Smell! "
Love Lynard Skynard.
They’re the best, IMO. Love ‘em so much. ❤️🎶❤️🎶
Thanks for grooving to this song yall
It’s bluesy for sure
I can tell you both get it 😉
The real Lynyrd Skynyrd was over in 1977 with the deaths of Ronnie Van Zant, Dean Kilpatrick, Steve and Cassie Gaines.
MY FAVORITE SKYNYRD SONG.

Saturday Night Special, Free Bird, That Smell, On the Hunt, Simple Man, are all excellent!
I'm envious that you guys are hearing all your reaction songs for the first time. I enjoy seeing your reactions to the songs you select. Skynyrd rocks. You should check out "honky tonk night-time man" or "ain't no good life". Subscribed.
Another favorite that doesn't get a reaction is "I Know a Little (about love)" , it will get your body moving.

KINGDOM COME.. GLOVES OF STONE.(HEARTBREAK IN MOTOR DRIVE)
Yea, 100% you gotta do On The Hunt. Skynyrd got legendary songs and most people that know the band have that one top 3 even tho it didn't do as well with the Bullets. Easily their most underrated track.
The song originally was misconstrued as being a song about gun rights, which is not correct. The "bullets" being referred to are bullets on a musical chart. It got so bad at one point that fans were throwing live ammo on the stage during concerts, so they didn't perform it for a while. Another time, a fan threw a record shard at the stage almost cutting the neck of Leon Wilkeson, the bass player. He then replied by firing a starter's pistol into the air, stunning the crowd. A Lynyrd Skynyrd concert circa 1976 could be a rowdy affair. LOL.
The "pencil pushers" referred to at the end of the song by Mr. Van Zant are the record company executives, namely Alan Walden of Walden Associates in Macon, GA among others.
This song's got such a badass attitude, with a lttle bit of funk too.
Give him back his songs(bullets).
love you guys , keep it up
Bad Ass for sure! :)
Rip Jay Briscoe 1/2 of the Ring Of Honor World Tag Team Champions
Very smooth reaction guys 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️💯
Hey y'all, I just saw your reaction to Jolene 2 years ago. I don't know if you have done it but there was a group of gals on AGT who did their rewrite(?) of Jolene. I'd love to see your reaction to it. They were awesome and sounded amazing. Dolly even reacted to it and loved it also
Things Goin On
You guys should do “young blood” by Bad company
OOOOH Yeah..great song by the best band ever!!! Man you feeling it but wifey kinda just going through the motions lol
Good band. Yes. Best band ever? Not even close. Top 50 at best.
@@Schizz_Popinov Best band ever....its called an OPINION just as yours dont count either.
Great reaction to a great band 🚽🤙
Most folks dont realize when Ronnie sang "gimme back my bullets", he wasnt talking about literal bullets. He was singing about how their previous album, their 3rd, before this one didnt have the critical or commercial success/acclaim that their first 2 albums did. Hes talking about a song "hitting the charts like a bullet" or "that song is number 1 with a bullet", sayings that we don't really hear anymore. And to be fair, their first 2 albums are arguably the greatest 2 albums ever, especially their first. Greatest debut record ever, period. The greatest American band ever.
Correct, and fans mistakenly thought it was about gun rights and actually used to throw live ammo on the stage when it was being performed.
Hey man these boys don’t have a bad song literally not one bad song It’s almost unbelievable that a band could have so many great songs in such a short amount of time You can make a list of songs from the original band and close your eyes and put your finger on any song on the list and you will either like it or be able to relate to it in some way Ronnie was one of the best song writers of all time They started performing on the big stage in 1973 and the plane crash happened in 1977 In this short amount of time this band made a life time of music that will be around until the end of time The absolute best rock band of all time if Ronnie had not died in the crash There wouldn’t even be a discussion about the greatest band of all time These boys were bad to the bone
I drank enough whiskey float a battleship around!
New sub after watching y’all’s reaction
I Need You & On The Hunt(Winterland 1975)!!
Great band, great song.
Cry For The Bad Man off the same album is also excellent. Other favorites are Needle and the Spoon, Double Trouble (outtake version off Skynards Innards), and On The Hunt.
CALL ME THE BREEZE is a JJ Cale song.
Watch the “Old Grey Whistle Test” recording they did, it’s long! over 40 minutes but it will be 40 minutes well spent.
The more recent line-up of Skynyrd did a great version of this with Kid Rock. Check it out. A lot heavier than this original version.
"On the hunt" live at Winter Park...you'll enjoy. Nice review.
Classic
My favorite band. I love the line where he says, " you will not hear me cry, cause I do not sing the blues"!. I'm from Jersey City, yet the lyrics can be appreciated by Eskimos, if you exposed them to this band. I understand why they were originally kinda pigeonholed into the southern rock genre, but honestly they should be appreciated without labels. Their musicality alone sets them apart from other bands during their hay day. I grew up with some classically trained musicians, and although it took me quite awhile to get them to listen, once they did, I couldn't tell you how much praise they heaped on Skynyrd. Especially the virtuosity of the guitar players. They had all suffered from the ill conceived notion that southern rock bands were just country music with the volume turned up. Anyway, please enjoy your journey, and don't let anyone tell you what you should listen to, you might miss out on some good shit 👍🤔
Although I love all music, that ended becoming my favorite Skynyrd album.
try On The Hunt.
Skynard still rules.
Legendary, check out That Smell
All I can do is write it in a song -skynard
Lynyrd Skynyrd is the REAL DEAL.
Finally some fricken Southern Boogie y'all
Skynyrd was in a bad contract with MCA. They were wanting softer lyrics, etc....they took his bullets away... thankfully, Skynyrd left ASAP!!!
I would like to suggest a song by Garth Brooks. It’s called “ The thunder rolls” but there are 2 versions. Please listen to “ The thunder rolls extended version “
Please do 'Down South Jukin'

What about us by Samson. If you like Tom MacDonald then you will not be disappointed. I promise.
What'chu know about #DEMBOYS ? 💪😎👍
You will not hear me cry ‘cause I do not sing the blues
I've never heard Lynyrd Skynyrd before but not bad not bad but not country.Tasha do u think I'm kinda hooked on country???
Too bad they had that horrible plane crash 40+ years ago that killed some of the members, most notably Ronnie Van Zant, the soul of the group.
Ironically lynryd skynyrd was a very liberal band, big for gun restrictions and civil rights
Where are this people from bullets means chips on the table gambling term from along the river boats he is talking about cheating him out of money chips are bullets because the more you got the more choices you have in betting
Ripped off,
From where?
This is an example of sarcasm is the songs and should be taken as a statement against idiots with guns. Their other “gun”, Saturday Night Special is a more straightforward message.
No, this is a song about Billboard's bullets - when a song is charting it has bullets. It is a tongue and cheek song about a song losing its place on the charts and the singer losing his "bullets" in life.
Actually the song has nothing to do with guns at all. They were using the word 'bullet' to mean a hit song on the charts. They were singing about wanting their songs back up on the Billboard top lists.
RIP Gary Rossington.....
