Beautiful 3rd gen Camaro Racecar (1985) - In the Paddock Ep. 7

- One of the nicest 3rd gen Camaros I've seen! Wayne Atkins walks us through his 1985 Camaro built for autocross and track performance. Originally build to compete in SCCA's CPrepared (CP) class in 1999, Wayne got this car in 2013 and proceeded to improve all aspects of the car.
When I saw him in 2018 at SCCA Nationals he was still running CP and I told him his car was too nice for CP lol! Two years later and it's even nicer with the widebody fender flare treatment and fresh paint courtesy of Dusold Designs.
Wayne loves CP but decided he wanted to play in the street car events with CAM and Optima's Search for the Ultimate Street Car.
We filmed this In the Paddock Episode at Pikes Peak International Raceway during the Optima event there. Sorry for the wind noise.

335 square on ANY thing is just stupid awesome !
Awesome car! Third gens are really underrated
They’re really starting to gain popularity these days. I think it’ll be one of the next big pro touring style cars
@@AutoXandTrack For sure. I’m building a 83’ Z28. I would like to do a resto mod LT swap and big Z28 brakes.
@@AutoXandTrack shhhh
So glad to see a old school small block chevy pushing that car around .
Chad, Thanks for showcasing my car. It has been a labor of love and you did a great job on the video.
You should definetly upload videos and pictures of the build on your channel!!!
How did you do the pin install on the rear hatch? Was it a kit or did you do it custom?
@@JansonCross-z8x Jon, The original rear hatch latch was gone when I purchased the car. The deck lid is factory and is held in place with two Aerocatch latches.
One awesome Gen3 Camaro, now you can enjoy it Wayne👍
Thanks for showing us third gen guys some love!! Keep up the great videos!!
Man those ultra carbon doors are so sweet👍
Been following that car for months now. Glad to see it done.
Really enjoying the "in the paddock" videos. Please keep them coming.
Man....those brakes are fantastic! The cars handling is crazy! Color scheme matches and everything! Just amazing! 2 thumbs up!!!
Nice to get an up close and personal look of this very fast car and driver, thanks Chad!
Wow! Very nice racecar! I had a red 1992 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Coupe. I could only imagine having it transformed to a racecar as nice as this. What a smooth run on the Auto X Course too!
I had no idea this car even existed. Love the back story as well Chad 👍🏼
Thanks!
wow .. just an amazing car! great video 😎
Nice car! Thanks for the video
This is like the only autocross restomod channel on CZcams.
I have some pro touring videos on 315 Squared for your viewing pleasure
Awesome 3rd gen! Really interested in that tiger adjustable rear end
That is awesome. I remember upgrading my 88 IROC with an LT1 5speed, new rims and Corsa exhaust and man I thought I was cool 😎. Lol. This car would is 1000 times better. But, that's all I could afford. Awesome Ramrod!
Love the Camaro
Thing is awesome. Interior is so sick
Awesome AF!
I used to have an 02 WS.6 back when i had money, a career and no automotive knowledge. I’m currently debating on gen 3 or 4 f body, I think you have helped settle this debate sir!
Awesome! 👍🏻
Very nice car, I have a 1970 SS 396 Super cool car I love it I’ve been thinking about getting a third GEN to go along with my 1970
Been digging at squeezing 335s on mine for next season, just lacking the required offset at this point. Such a sick setup, awesomely done!
i'm curious on how bad the scrub radios ends up being. those wheels easily moved the scrub like 2in into the positive. the 18x11s's on my 92 camaro moved scrub 1/2in positive and i'm a bit worried about the scrub.
Very cool car!
Wow just when I had seen it all.
Me and my 305 TBI aspire to be like you! Fucking awesome buddy!
i'm curious what happens to the scrub radius when the wheel get pushed out that far.
Wayne, love your car. I am trying find 16 inch wide wheels for my 91 camaro 1LE, do you still have yours? Thanks, Daniel
I want to know how he did the hood pins on his rear hatch!
What steering column?
What's the wheel setup you're running????
I wonder what diameter and brand his steering wheel is?
carbon fiber doors? or wrapped ends?
Real carbon fiber doors by Ultra Carbon.
New vlog
Who makes the carbon fiber doors
Ultra Carbon
Are those doors really carbon fiber
They are! Made by a company called Ultra Carbon.
what's the offset of the wheels?
I’ve asked Wayne. I’ll let you know what he says. Keep in mind the car is flared and has a custom rear end which may or may not be the same width as stock.
@@AutoXandTrack got it. It's a beautiful 3rd gen. Hell, I would daily that anytime. 3rd Gens are my favorite Camaros personally.
From Wayne: The wheels are Forgestar F14 super deep concave- 18x12 +6 offset with 1/2” wheel spacers to clear the strut. In reality a wheel without the spacer would be better but that is the closest I could get within the Forgestar limits. I hope this helps. I don’t think they will clear a factory fender.
@@AutoXandTrack it's a tremendous help, thank you
How much how much you want for that Camaro is it street legal
Probably more than you can pay
Harnesses should be crossed behind the seat...
Not according to the SCCA General Competition Rules 9.3.18. Is crossed shoulder belts a drag race thing?
Did you know the body is made up of 72% water?
Wow, I hate the 3rd gen Camaro but that's one sexy car.
🤣🤣
Sorry have to say it, took a T top car and "converted it" OMG! There are hundreds of coupes out there dirt cheap, why ruin a T top car! Sorry had to Vent, makes me sick to my stomach.
I hear you. It’s like when I see a first gen muscle car that was turned into a dirt track car. Keep in mind this was turned into a racecar and T-tops eliminates in the late 90’s when these cars were dirt cheap and nobody wanted them.
@@AutoXandTrack Agreed I understand, just I have loved these cars all along, no disrespect intended.
@@davebarron5939 I was thinking of it the other way. Impossible to find one without t-tops!
What steering column?
