    Amazing video!
18 years ago a friend from work told my husband that as a Jew he was surely going to hell. My husband being such a sweet and gentle man stayed friendly and kind to that Christian man.
He also wasn’t offended by that comment.
Two years ago my beloved husband (58 years old) passed away of that horrible pancreatic cancer..
That friend was visiting often toward the end of my husband’s life intending to convert him to the blood and the cross … One afternoon, I entered the room to hear my husband saying: “Please, you should go now, I am Jewish and as a Jew I can’t accept a fake god.” Words spoken so softly. The man left immediately…
I am forever grateful to my husband for his faithfulness. Whenever I am in need of his presence and support I remember that afternoon and for some reason it gives me immense strength ❤️
Thank you Rabbi 😊stay safe 🇮🇱

I learned the different approaches attended many Bible studies owned and read the different Christian Bible versions; KJV, NAS, etc etc. Interestingly, it was the non-stop criticism of Catholicism that is so constant in all these Christian churches that lead me to study Church History and Helped me go All the Way Back to The Original Jewish Bible ! Yes God is Love and HE Gave Very Specific Instructions in HIS ORIGINAL TORAH and TANACH and now that I have been studying with several Orthodox Jewish Rabbis ( T. Singer, M. Skobac, J. Mizrachi, Y.Reuven, etc.) for about 10 years I KNOW how misleading and inaccurate Christianity is and it’s not just on their interpretation of the Future Messiah, but the very nature of GOD’s Instructions, Laws, Tenets, Forgiveness for Sin, etc. and what is expected of us humans. I always wondered how the Jews could be wrong about JC but never had an opportunity to ask a Real Rabbi; CZcams is facilitating this Invaluable Information.

The 1st trouble I had with "original sin" as a Christian was the Noahs Ark story. If original sin starts with Adam and Eve then it would still be in Noah and his family on the Ark. So saving them from the flood would mean God spared 8 people who were full of the same sin as those he wiped out in the flood.. Only way to stop the disease is to cut it off completely. If man was diseased by original sin then God should have wiped out everyone and cooked up a whole new creation. So I found that the idea of original sin contradicts the Tanakh.

I say this as a Christian... most of the criticisms Rabbi Singer mentions here are legitimate. As he admits, many of these criticisms only apply to certain groups within Christianity. As Rabbi Singer says, the most prominent understanding of the doctrine of Original Sin logically leads to the doctrine of Total Depravity also known as Total Inability. Other doctrines flow from these errors such as the doctrine of Limited Atonement. Rabbi Singer rightly points out that these doctrines contradict what is taught in TANAKH.
The free will of an individual to accept life and death as God sets out before them is such an important doctrine to many(including me) in the Christian faith. But I wouldn’t say that the human being is unaffected by the sin of Adam and Eve. I think the impact of a fallen world is very much something you can find throughout TANAKH.
I also would not impose these doctrines on Paul or on the book of Romans. As Rabbi Singer points out, Romans is a confusing book with a lot of perspectives and target audiences coming into and out of focus. But the (correct) Christian view is not that belief in the historical Jesus of Nazareth as the Christ is ultimately what makes a person right with God.
Romans 2:6-11 ‘God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism.’

Thank you Toby for concluding, like everyone else who isn't a Calvinist, that Calvinism is absurd. The definition of predestination held by the Calvinists was not a belief of the Church for nearly 15 centuries, and only came about when John Calvin introduced this dogma. But, when God passes judgement, it is fixed. Did man stop the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah? They did not repent and judgement came to pass. God was judging Nineveh, and sent Jonah in order for them to repent. And they averted destruction with repentance. This is the true character of God.

And I only understand my native language (and none of the thousand others) because of the sin dealt with at the Tower of Babel.

    To the title.
No, Calvinism doesn't make sense if you're a Christian.
A certain François de Sales, a small lord, under the Dukes of Savoy, told a certain other François de Sales, his son, a teen:
_"Calvinism is a new religion, I have seen it born"_ ...
The teen held on to this while having anxieties of being among those "predestined for damnation." (Not the actual term for Calvinism, but OK). So, the teen then became a Saint, and the last and possibly greatest Bishop of Geneva, he tried to actually not just visit his city, which was occupied by Calvinists, but even to convert Theodore Beza.
Saying Calvinism makes sense if you are a Christian is like saying "Mendelson makes sense if you are a Jew" ... which I'm sure you have the rectitude to reject, whatever your other faults.

1:19 Here are the exact words of St. Paul, according to the translators Jerome for Greek to Latin and Douay Rheims for Greek or Jerome's Latin to English, it's in Romans 8:
*28 And we know that to them that love God, all things work together unto good, to such as, according to his purpose, are called to be saints. 29 For whom he foreknew, he also predestinated to be made conformable to the image of his Son; that he might be the firstborn amongst many brethren. 30 And whom he predestinated, them he also called. And whom he called, them he also justified. And whom he justified, them he also glorified.*
St. Paul describes the whole process, from God's perspective. Nothing here denies men have a choice, nothing here says anyone is predestined for the opposite. It just goes over all of the process in God's plan, and our freedom is part of God's plan.
Would you agree? Would you agree that:
    a) we are free
    b) God has a plan and our free choices will not change it?

4:40 In the case of Jonah, God accepted the repentance of people who had seen or believed those who had seen a man come alive from a whale.
In the case of the Church, God accepted the repentance of people who had seen or believed those who had seen a man come alive from the empty tomb.
In the case of Jonah, God accepted sackcloth and fasting.
In the case of the Church, God accepted baptism and confirmation.
In the case of both, God accepted a very _collective_ repentance.
And the first words the Church says on Pentecost day are:
    1) enumerating the prophecies that are fulfilled, both on that day itself and in the Resurrection
    2) *Do penance, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins: and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.* Acts 2:38
No, the feature that a group of people can repent is not being forgotten in the New Testament.

Calvinism is absurd from any perspective in my opinion. I can argue the point, though it is an example of Aristotelian logic pushed to the absurd, and as an aside I believe the Torah rejects this logic 2,000 years before Calvinism. Or Augustinism, if you will. It never seemed complicated to me. Strict predestinarianism seems to make puppets out each person. How does predetermined behavior take on any moral content. Thus Calvinism empties the content out of the Christian message, or Traditions of moral behavior in Judaism as I understand it.
Your more complex, historical argument, including salvation by faith, are well taken.
But then I am an atheist, and even as a child attended a Methodist (non-Calvinist) Sunday school in a small town in the mountain South. It’s one reason that the Methodists and Baptists are involved in such bitter rivals. I am not exaggerating.
We won’t even look at Mary, the mother of God. (Turning this Jewish mother of at least 7 children,
Born into a passionately political Jewish family into…. What? A sort of divine being.

I'd even say a minority in Reform denominations are _really_ Calvinist. (I'm R.C.). But as to Rabbi's point about God forgiving Nineveh on their repentance.. how to answer? I'd say yes, God always has and always will forgive the repentant of any faith of their particular sins, , but to be regenerated and have the soul cleansed and eventually enter the Kingdom requires the priestly ministry of the perfectly obedient Jesus.
