I’m scared to do this 😂😂😂
ikr i keep watching vids to prep myself but it looks so easy xD
I came here because I fail at spraying fixative . The drawing gets ruined and very wet. I never how much to spring and if it enough!!!
Thank you for the video! I didn't know that I needed to wait until it dried then give it another spray.
Thank you for sharing. I am doing professional art classes, and have moved onto charcoal drawings. My art teacher suggested if one cannot afford fixatives, you can always use Hair Spray (the stuff that ladies use to keep those styles in place). It works wonderfully!
does it not leave any yellow behind after a certain period? if not what hairspray do you use?!
Yiu can also spray milk. The protein casein in it will also fix charcol
Charcoal might be one thing, but pastels are quite another.
The bright vibrancy of pastels can become muted and dulled by spray fixative.
Keep the can at least 2 full feet away from the art.
Many short sprays...don't drench the work.
Check often to see how 'fixed' the pastel is.
If the art is very precious to you, you might just put it behind glass and omit the fixative altogether.
Yes using a Fixative the best way to protect charcoal pieces. I am unaware of any other alternative techniques available to protect them.
Worked perfectly. Thanks. Was always nervous to try it out. Greetings from Ireland!
Thank you Yong Chen! Please remember as well that when spraying outside the wind can blow leaves and dust onto the artwork, making it stick to the drawing.
It's better tho..if there is no dust
Very nice demo.of spraying the fixative
I’m always afraid to spray fixative on my sketchbooks
Waynimations My I God, same. M both afraid I'd ruin my sketch and perhaps kill myself or the cat
I literally have hundreds of drawings that I have never treated😢😂 thanks for showing us this, now I won’t be paranoid every time I move my art
This has been so helpful and instructive :-) Thank you :-D I have always been turning to lamination to protect my charcoal sketches, but yesterday bought a Spectrafix fixative which is all-natural, and not at all toxic, and you don't even need to go outdoors. Hoping to use it today or tomorrow :-) Thank you again for showing the technique...
Moumanti Podder what’s the name of the fixative you use? Does it work well?
@@cowboybeepbopjae she said a *Spectrafix* fixative
I had an art teacher that suggested hairspray if you didn’t have proper fixatives.
Chloe Gilmour it makes it yellow over time
This is awesome! I have been wondering how to preserve my drawing for a long time.
And you never thought to check out youtube?
Thank you so much for this! I have lost so many drawings because I didn't know how to properly protect them
This is very helpful! Thank you!!
My only comment would be that I never spray down on my work as it’s hard to control how much fixative goes on to the work and usually leads to over application of fixative.
I like to spray with the art in a vertical position.
Thanks for the video !
You make a lot of great videos but you make portrait painting look so easy lol it’s so hard lol
Winks
Lisa
How do you hold it straight?
Thank you. This was very helpful.
Thank you so much, this was very helpful!😊
Very helpful sir!
Thank you. Very helpful
so clearrr thanks!
Thank you very much
You are welcome
Thank you !
It was really helpful. Thanks a lot :-)
Thank you for stopping by.
Very useful 👍
thank you!
thankyou
nice video
Thanks dude
This is a nice example. I’ve just tried doing it but my dog keeps trodding on it... and then the wind... and then soon enough it starts spitting rain... Ugh!!
Helpful
Thank you.
Thanks 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing! Just a question, does the fixative application totally prevent smudging? I.e when u touch the drawing it won't smudge your finger anymore
If done right, it won't smudge when touched.
Why we must spray it multiple time and from different angle for each spray?
Not gonna lie, im scared to apply the spray. I know I need to apply it but what if i eff up lool
For the first time I have used fixative spray over my charcoal drawing. I can see some white stuff pop up on my drawing and I can remove with my bare fingers. Is that because of the paper quality ?
That could be dusts from the air. Try to do it in a place has less wind and dirt. Happy New Year!
@@YongChen thank you for your reply and happy New year, have great year
What is the kind of paper do you suggest for a charcoal? Please let me know..
Regular drawing paper can do ok for charcoal, but usually Charcoal paper work better. All depend on the paper texture that you prefer.
@@YongChen thankyou so much🤹♀️
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ thank you
Can I spray a charcoal drawing made on sketchbook paper 100g? Thank you
I just spend 2 hours on a very beautiful drawing, and when i fixated it, i sprayed the damn fixative from a distance of 10 cm. And ruined everything. Great.
So I’m not familiar with fixative and just started doing charcoal once I spray it can you still erase ?
Update from my last comment: So I applied a final fixative to my work and relieved it was a success. Will the protection run out? In other words, do I need to respray it every few years?
Thanks :)
Robert, I don't think you will need to reply again. The fixative creates a permanent film, unless you expose it alot in the sun.
I hadn’t thought of spraying the second coat in the opposite direction. That sounds like a very helpful tip and I will definitely use it! ♥️ from Australia 🇦🇺
@@cateyes3813 be careful about doing that, I never did it with mine but I think it might mess up your art work if u spray it on the opposite side
👍👍
When I use fixative I tend to lose my intense darks because of the little dust the dry spray causes. How does this work? Because once I blow the dust (the dry spray) it feels as if it is still not fixated
You seem to apply too much. You need to hold it at least 50cm away, and spay evenly with short sessions. I got my first drawing all white, because didn't know how to apply, and how much, then after second try, I got hang on it.
@@1LERS1 thanks for the info😌
@@iamkilladigovindhoottan glad that it helped someone.
I have a doubt can we make the paper wet or shouldn't we
Pls comment quick
I use hair spray on my charcoal drawings. It's cheaper and less toxic and has worked well so far
I haven't seen it with my own eyes but I heard that hair spray eventually yellows a charcoal drawing over time which is why people prefer to use specific fixatives over hair spray. I plan on using the Krylon Workable Fixatif on colored pencil drawings God willing and either a Grumbacher or Winsor & Newton fixative on charcoal drawings God willing.
Love from india
Thank you for the informative video. It helped me to correctly apply the fixative to my pencil drawing, with great results! (I used Perfix daler rowney if anyone is wondering)
but like if i spray it on my sketchbook drawing will it do something to the next page?
You would need to spray in a few rounds, and each round don't make the page wet.
@@YongChen okay got it, thank you for the reply
Que pena que no se inglés
