Yasser Arafat midnight interview

  • In 1993 Yasser Arafat had promised me an interview while he was in exile in Tunisia but in the end our crew had waited for four days with no result. Our producer scolded the PLO's Swedish representative which had effect. When Arafat one month later visited Sweden for talks with the Prime Minister, Carl Bildt, I was the only Swedish journalist who got an interview with the PLO leader. In the middle of the night, at Haga Palace in Stockholm.

@@dokhonodokhono5619 I disagree. Hamas is tantamount to the oppression of Palestinians and terrorism. Hamas was founded by Israel the same way the Taliban and Afghan mujahedeen were created by America. All of these terrorist groups later started biting. Hamas are the ones that massacred PLO staff and supporters and took over Gaza by force by help of foreign interference namely the terrorist theocratic regime of Iran.

Thank you, Stina for sharing the extraordinary interview, Mr Arafat was a father to every Palestinian around the world, including me. He was loved and respected leader by all the Palestinian majorities, his existence gave us an international Recognation , if you show his photo to anyone in the world, he/she would know who that man was.. and what he was fighting for.. his unique kufiya has become very popular in Europe and in Latin America, Its a national symbolic for the Palestinian identity. He sacrificed his life to create a happy atmosphere and pleasant life to our people.. he had a truly leadership potential and charisma. I am proud to say that Mr Arafat had covered all my school expenses, and my dorm expenses school in Amman, that was during my high school back in 1999-2001. I am grateful to him till i die!
I know when he joined people for Iftar in Ramazan in Gaza or West bank or having lunch with his 28 kids, he was feeding them by his hands and speaking to them for making them feel comfortable and safe. He wasn't a foody person (Like our current presidents who are living to eat, not eating to live) He enjoyed reading, researching and make plans to reach peace with The Israelis government. He was able to polarized the Palestinians movements, Hamas- Al Jihad- National front Liberation) They all loved him. He is also a Nobel prize winner with the late president of Israel Mr Rabin.. That was a brave decision to make by signing Oslo convention in Washington in September 1993. After he is been poisoned in 2004 , That was shock to all of us. We lost a significant leader, a dignified, and honorable man, he will always be missed.. Even the current situation and the political system in Palestine is in mess. I believe you're following the latest about us, regarding the pressure we had from Trump's administration about the "Deal of the century" WE WILL NEVER ACCEPT IT.. My people are still resisting the occupation and marching forward toward victory. Israel isn't respecting the International law and Security council resolutions 242-338 and 2334 (Expanding settlements over the Palestinian Territories and Jerusalem) In my opinion, the acceptable solution for both nations, is the two state solution, Establishing a national sovereignty on lands which has was been occupied since 1967 (during the sixth war) and East Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine, and the return of the refugees, and the release of our prisoners are the basics to reach peace with our neighbors.

@@zainamin4487 well it doesn't look like there is a solution and israel will take what it wants. The Palestinian response is weak as usual whether it is from Fatah and mahmoud abbas in the West Bank or from Hamas and their empty promises and threats in Gaza. Mahmoud abbas said he will dissolve the PA and that translates to making israel an occupation state like before 1993 failed peace plans and Palestine has title in the UN that it is an occupied state so we will go back to what is pre-1993. In terms of what Mahmoud abbas is doing for Gaza, he has been paying salaries to Gazans for years even though there is an illegal government serving there which is Hamas government, and since Hamas wants to be in control of Gaza and forced Fatah and Mahmoud abbas into armed conflict then blame it on them rather than Mahmoud abbas. Gaza will actually benefit from the deal of the century as they will build industrial project there and along the border which makes me predict that hamas are in secret negotiations with Israel and they will continue to control Gaza. So as you can see, it is Israel and Palestinian leaders against the Palestinian people.

Palestinian leaders have publicly declared that they consider the Armenian Quarter to be a part of Palestine and will not relinquish it to Israel. Yasser Arafat, rejected the US proposal at the 2000 Camp David Summit for the Old City's division and stated: "The Armenian quarter belongs to us. We and Armenians are one people." He told Clinton, "My name is not Yasir Arafat, it is Yasir Arafatian," making his name sound Armenian. "I will not betray my Armenian brothers," Arafat said about leaving the Armenian Quarter under Israeli rule.

Mr arafat is a strong beleiver indeed. He survived alot of set backs and assasinations. He united the palastinans all over and was good in manouvers in every step he takes.
I admire this man from a fighter to a peace making and entered the white house in his military uniform but unfortunally the extreem right likud party of israel did not want reall peace.
This man was the leader and the captain of the military showdown with sharon israel army during the war in beirut lebanon 1982 in which the balance of power was in favour of israel ofcourse but arafat and his fighters fought and resisted and hurt the israelis.
This is why he yasser arafat is authentic in history.
