How to Make a Kaleidoscope in After Effects the Easy Way

  • In this After Effects motion graphic tutorial we are going to be taking a look at how to product a fractal or kaleidoscope effect in After Effects. This abstract look is achieved by using the built in tool called CC Kaleida.

    Adobe After Effects 2019 (AE 2019) is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application developed by Adobe Systems and used in the post-production process of filmmaking and television production. Among other things, After Effects can be used for keying, tracking, compositing, and animation. It also functions as a very basic non-linear editor, audio editor, and media transcoder.
    CINEMA 4D R20 is a 3D modeling, animation, motion graphic and rendering application developed by MAXON Computer GmbH in Germany. It is capable of procedural and polygonal/subd modeling, animating, lighting, texturing, rendering, and common features found in 3D modeling applications.

    I used this kaleida effect you showed but added a twist! I added a song to the comp, converted them to keyframes, and pickwhipped each rotate of each Kaleida to the keyframed audio channels, so that the kaleidascope moves to the beat of the music! Pretty cool effect! Do try!

      I actually do not remember how I did that
      I think you have to convert the audio to keyframes first; you'll have to figure it out from there I think, sadly. Hope this helps you a bit

      It's really easy. Firstly right click on your audio and convert it into keyframes by using the keyframe assistant. Then apply the kaleida effect on ur pic and then alt+click on the property u want to animate according to the beat. There will be a pick whip option(swirl) and then u need to parent it to the audio channel(slider option). Use expressions to make it more customisable.
