    As an owner of probably 25 Nanuk cases for our video production business, I can attest to the quality of these cases. They have saved us countless times. Many of ours are 935s.
    In fact, I was literally standing on one of our cases last night to adjust something at an event… I’m 250 pounds and it didn’t flinch!
    Glad to see you back.

    I have heard it said that photography is the quest for the right camera bag so I know exactly where you are coming from with this video.
    Nanuk isn’t a particularly well known brand here in the UK so I have one of the ubiquitous Peli 1510s for storing (some of) my camera equipment and it has been fantastic. I’ll definitely consider a Nanuk after seeing this though. I’d recommend to anyone that they invest in a decent case for their gear and go for the best they can afford (and is available in their jurisdiction). For those occasions where you don’t need to worry about potentially drowning or blowing up your kit then, after trying the likes of Tamrac and Lowepro over the years I now don’t bother looking past ThinkTank as their build quality is phenomenal and the company is run by working photographers and videographers who know what does (and just as importantly what does not) matter when it comes to carrying extortionate equipment all over the place.

      Great comment! You’re absolutely right! You know exactly what I’m talking about! It’s of vital importance to protect your cherished gear. The pros know. Nanuk, Pelican, ThinkTank: when you’re not choosing based on cost and instead choose based on the bet that somewhere along the line you’ll be glad you did, you know you’re making the right choice!
      Thanks for the great comment!

    It’s full size carry-on approved, but the cargo space (with the padding) looks smaller than it sounds.

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  Před 6 měsíci +1

      It did look small in the video. Actually, I was using some of my gear (that’s normally in there) to film the inside of the case, so I used extra padding and found lots of little stuff to put in there for the shot.
      Other than that, the padding is quite thick and really protects your stuff. In your case (pun?) you might want to opt for other innards. Hope this helps!

    Its always a dilemma. Balancing the "likelihood" of a disaster happening versus the cost of being prepared for that disaster. However, as demonstrated here, no one can ever predict the likelihood percentage accurately. I have my own saying for when something happens, and someone says "What's the chance of that happening?" My saying is, copyright 1982, "Evidently....100%." The chance of ANYTHING happening that HAS happened, is 100%. It happened. There was a 100% chance of it happening. Just look at it.
    But we want to believe many things are too remote in possibility of it happening. And we like to save money we don't have to spend. So we roll the dice every time we don't spend the money to prepare for the disaster. I am guilty of this as well. Very guilty. Your experience though opened my eyes. I think I need to be looking into getting some really good cases. After $10,000 of equipment is safe in a disaster because a few hundred was spent before hand, it seems silly to think we (me) considered not spending $300.
    This is an important video because its an important lesson for so many of us. I just added up my light kit to $1,000 to replace it (cheap as lighting kits go, but I am thrifty). Spending a half of that, when I can afford it, is probably a better idea than needing to spend the full amount when I can't afford it. Yeah, they have their own cases, but they are only for transporting from point A to point B, without any ability to protect against a flood, or crushing weight, or high falls, or a horse stepping on them. What's the chance of that happening? I'll let you know when it happens. 😉

      All of that was so well said! And I live your saying! I’m so so very glad I got that case. I’m going to get more of them now.
      Thanks so much for the fabulous comment, yet again! Cheers!

    When I watched your initial flood video I was compelled to go outside and check a problematic drain that has flooded my basement twice over the last decade.
    The next thing to consider is an offsite store for important data. I know two people who have lost very important data because their backups were destroyed/stolen along with their equipment.
    I have a couple of drives that I mirror every couple of months and take to my office which contain all of our family photos and videos, for example.

      You know, that’s a great idea (off-site storing data). I really should start doing that. Actually I’m looking into it now!
      Thanks for the great idea!

    I have to agree with your assessment of "human people." Am I allowed to write "human people are a pain in the ass" in a CZcams comment? Anyway, I want to make this a helpful and positive comment, so I would like to offer the suggestion that you keep a kayak in your basement, so for the next flood you can paddle around and pick up gear instead of getting your shoes and socks wet. I wonder if Nanuk makes kayaks...

    thank you so much for your video. Hey, I have a question. If did vocals and you had Neumann Tlm 103 and sphere DLX, which Mic, would you replace and what would that replacement be? Thank you so much.❤️

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi there. Thanks!
      Ok. If you mean which mic would I choose between the TLM 103 and the DLX, it would be the DLX. Easy choice. The 103 is a bit too bright for me. The DLX is so very underrated.
      But if you’re asking which mic I would give up to replace with another mic, it would be the 103, I would sell that and get either an sE Electronics sE4400 or a Lauten Audio LA-320.
      Hope this helps!
