Severely overdressed for -23C, this outfit would be good for around -33C and below

Can you please specifiy what material each of the layers are e.g. merino wool. Also could you specify the weight of each layer whether it’s light weight, mid weight or heavy weight. Thanks in Advance

When it’s colder than - 20 i suggest double down. A down vest or hoody and a down jacket on top

Had a day forecast last season -20 celcius, was terrified as had never experienced such cold. Turned out to be an absolute gorgeous sunny day with zero wind. Had put an extra layer on in preparation. Ended up having to drop the additional layer and just went with a base, fleece then insulated jacket. The buff and quality mittens are essentials.

-15-20 celsius I usually ski in base layer and insulated ski jacket, without mid layer. Woolen base layer keeps warm really well so, at least for me, that’s enough

will have to follow you there. skiing in nicer weather at moment and can certainly drop fleece as a midlayer combined with HH insulated jacket. Amazed how warm HH jacket is.@@oleg274

For an average weather day of 35-40 degrees, is a wool or fleece mid layer be ok? And what about a cotton sweater?

I heard cotton was not good as a base layer

Unless google is wrong, 35-40 degrees farenheit is above freezing temperature. You're probably not skiing at those temperatures. But if you somehow are, or just hiking or doing any kind of outdoor activity for a longer period of time: I'd say that the most imporant thing is a set of clothing where you're able to remove layers and put them back on easily. When you're hiking for example (and the same goes for skiing, climbing etc), you can get really worked up physically for short periods of time, and feel the need to cool off, while needing warm back up just a short while later. It's better to be too warm than too cold, as long as you can manage the warmth by shedding layers, if that makes any sense.
Best of luck with whatever kind of adventure you have in mind, even if it's just a walk. Much love!

Too many layers. Better to improve the quality of the gear, so you can keep it to 3 layers vs 5.
    Thanks for video.
Heated gloves is a game changer too

I like shell ski pants. 340g merino base layer isn’t enough in the teens and below. Imo. So I wear a silk base or when if necessary a tight 150g then the looser fitting 340(minus33), followed by the shell pants.
As for the top. I find it hard to layer as much as in the video without getting layers too compressed which defeats the purpose of layering. I have worn a base, a mid, a puffy and shell. The key is bing able to vent, not compressing the layers, and feeling not only, not cold, but also not like Randy from Christmas Story.
