  • For many people, the term Druid will conjure up images of an old men with long white beards wearing white robes, cutting mistletoe with golden sickles and, casting mysterious magical spells. But modern Druidry is far from that, - it is a spiritual path, which, although it may have ancient roots, is nonetheless very modern in its approach to nature, to the environment and to the psychology of the modern mind.
These three part video introduces you to this very world and will help you define your own path, designed to help your spiritual side grow and flourish.

There are some solid historical and conceptual ties between Celtic druidry, Native American and African shamanism, ancient Mesopotamian mithraism, Greek, Nordic and Slavic paganism, and interestingly, Japanese Shintoism.
In all of these spiritual systems, a common core belief is undeniable which is accepting and protecting mother nature as a sacred entity. It's truly devastating to see how humans have become so vulnerable because of neglecting these ancient spiritual roots and their unabated industrialism throughout the history.

I think all people of this world need to integrate most of the druids beliefs. No matter you are a atheist or a religious person, all people need to respect nature and live in harmony with it. All people need to know the healing properties of plants and use it. All people need to know the moon cycles and how it affect the seas, plants, animals and people. This is not religion, this is reasonable beliefs if we want this world to last a long time and not destroy it.

I've traced a line of my family tree to 13th century Scotland and in the last several years have been learning about those roots, history etc. I am quite surprised to learn that modern day druidism is very similar to Earth based spiritualism I've followed with my own clan my whole life. I'm taking it slow and allowing my intuition to guide me, whilst every so often reading and learning what I can, through podcasts and videos like these. Many of the fundamental basic elements of english come from old Norse, someone speaking old english and old norse would have been able to converse (while to us old English is barely understandable)
I highly recommend the channel of Dr Jackson Crawford - he's a university lecturer who believes that research should be shared, not held in an ivory tower - and he will give you many insights into what it really meant to be a viking - most WERE farmers who fought when they needed to fight, not as a way of life

“Galacia” is a Celtic name originating from the Celtic tribe known as the “Caellici” a name which seems no different from the Celtic goddess “cailli” and “Caillic” whose origin is “Kalika” the Vedic Mother goddess also known as Mother “Kali”.
    ~
“Galacia” is a province of Spain, it occupies 6% of the Spanish landmass and 6% of the Spanish population. Its ancient Celtic history goes back to at least 600 B.C, its people the “Galatians” take pride in their ancient Celtic heritage and their modern city of “Lugo” is named after the Celtic god “Lugh” who was the “master of skills”.
    ~
“Ptolemy” the Greek astrologer writes in his encyclopaedia “Natural History” that the Celtic tribe known as the “Callaeci” which gives us the name “Galacia” means “those who worship the Cailleach”. The “Cailleach” are the “Caillic” the Celtic goddess whose source is the Vedic goddess “Kalika” and “Kali”.
    ~
“Galatia” was also the name of an ancient region of Turkey covering the provinces of “Ankara” “Corum” and “Yozgat” its name coming from the Celts who settled there some 2300 years ago. Throughout Turkey the worship of the Mother goddess was once very prominent, it was the home of the female warriors known as the “Amazons” and we also find “Mount Ida” whose name means “the mountain of the Mother goddess”.
    ~
So just as within the country of Turkey we find the region of “Gallipoli” whose original name was “Kalipoli” as in “the city ( puri ) of Kali” we also have “Galatia” known by the Romans as “Gallia” and this seems to have its source in the Celtic Mother goddess “Cailli” and “Caillic” from the Vedic “Kalika” and “Kali”.
    ~
“Galicia” was also the name of a major Kingdom found throughout Eastern Europe and which once held portions of Poland and modern day Ukraine and we also find it as a village in Northern Cyprus famous for its grape and wine festivals.
    ~
“Gaul” was an historic region of Western Europe which covered “France” “Luxembourg” “Belgium” “Switzerland” “Netherlands” “Germany” and parts of “Northern Italy”. It may also be related to “Galicia” and it may also give us the word “Gaelic” a language of the Celts, though the academics strongly deny this.
    ~
This Celtic Mother goddess “Cailli” is the daughter of “Grian” the Celtic name for the god of the Sun. “Grian” comes from the Sanskrit root “ghr” meaning to “burn” to “shine” and “ghrna” meaning “heat” “warmth” “sunshine” and this becomes “ghrni” meaning the “Sun” which is the source of the Celtic “Grian” the father of “Cailli” the Celtic Mother goddess.
    ~
The Celts worshipped the “goddess” they appeared throughout Ireland as the “Teuatta De Danam” the “children of the goddess Danu” an ancient Vedic goddess of the waters. Throughout Ireland we also find the Celtic goddess “Bovind” the “white cow goddess” who manifests as the river “Boyne” and which is very much related to the Vedic “Govinda” the “lover of the cows”. Historian, novelist and foremost expert on Celtic culture “Peter Beresford Ellis” says the following.
    ~
”The Goddess Boann, whose name means “white cow” gave her name to the river Boyne. She was mother to Aonghus Og, the love God and was called “Guou - uinda” or “cow finder”. Now this appears almost exactly the same as the Vedic name “Govinda” the epithet for Lord Krsna.”
    ~
“ Among the ancient Celts “Danu” was regarded as the "Mother Goddess." The Irish Gods and Goddesses were the Tuatha De Danaan ( Children of Danu ). “Danu” was the "divine waters" falling from heaven and nurturing “Bíle” the sacred oak from whose acorns their children sprang. Moreover, the waters of “Danu” went on to create the great Celtic sacred river “Danuvius” today called the “Danube”. Many European rivers bear the name of “Danu” the Rhône ( ro- Dhanu "Great Danu") and several rivers called “Don”. Rivers were sacred in the Celtic world and places where votive offerings were deposited and burials often conducted."
    ~
"The Druids of the ancient Celtic world have a startling kinship with the brahmins of the Hindu religion and were, indeed, a parallel development from their common Indo-European cultural root which began to branch out probably five thousand years ago. It has been only in recent decades that Celtic scholars have begun to reveal the full extent of the parallels and cognates between ancient Celtic society and Vedic culture. The very name Druid is composed of two Celtic word roots which have parallels in Sanskrit, indeed, the root vid for knowledge, which also emerges in the Sanskrit word Veda, demonstrates the similarity. The Celtic root dru which means "immersion" also appears in Sanskrit. So a Druid was one immersed in knowledge." Peter Beresford Ellis.

My 5th-generation-Australian-with-no-knowledge-of-overseas-relatives status left me feeling no connection with my ancestral lands, nor with my ancestors themselves. Being so deeply connected to the land of my birth, loving this land passionately since childhood, Celtic mythology and spirituality hadn't inspired my enthusiasm, beyond dreaming about Merlin, and I've spent decades searching elsewhere.
Visiting the lands of my ancestors in 2018, though, walking and sitting on the land and visiting so many overwhelmingly moving sacred sites in Ireland, Scotland and England, compels me to learn all that I can about Celtic spirituality and Shamanism. Whilst on this journey I've discovered that what I now read about Druidry is what I've been doing all my life, it describes who I am. When you began to speak of the various attributes of Bard, Ovate and Druid, I thought it would highlight huge challenges, and I'm sure there are many challenges involved, but so many aspects mirror my own life and journey as it has unfolded. Art and storytelling, poetry, playing of a sacred musical instrument, healing and community work, psychology, divination, energy balancing, stone circles, herbal medicine, planting of groves and habitat for wildlife. In a nutshell, this is my life. It's how I commune, love, balance energy and create sacred space, honour the Earth and the elements, educate myself, ponder, offer gratitude, and feel comfortable about what I'll leave behind for those who follow. I don't mean that I am initiated, nothing like that, but everything you mentioned, other than mediation, describes my life journey over the past 6 decades. The mediation bit, the non-judgementalism, the measured calm, therein lies my achilles heel :( :) I am so happy to have found druidry... Finally, a neat fit. :)

The ancient celts observed a lunar calendar, meaning each month was a lunar cycle; new moon-full moon-dark moon. A lunar cycle is roughly 29.5 days, meaning each month was 29 or 30 days. 12 lunar cycles is a bit over 354 days, and 13 cycles is a bit under 384 days, which means there was a 13th. month in SOME years. There is a 19-year cycle in this calendar, in which there are always 12 years of 12 months each, and 7 of 13 months each. This is also how the ancient germanic, greek, hebrew, arabic, babylonian, hindu, chinese, and other calendars worked.
In the celtic calendar, the festival of Imbolc was the new/crescent moon (beginning of month) roughly half way from winter solstice to vernal equinox. Beltane was the full moon (middle of month) roughly half way from vernal equinox to summer solstice. Lunasa was the full moon roughly half way from summer solstice to autumnal equinox. And Samhuin was the dark moon (end of month) roughly half way from autumnal equinox to winter solstice. The word Samhuin means; summer's end, it was the end of the last month/of the summer/of the year, and the new year was immediately AFTER the festival. They reckoned 3 seasons in a year, not 4. (Winter, Spring, Summer).
That is how the ancient celtic calendar worked, and that is what almost nobody will tell you, because they do not know. I DO KNOW because I have studied nearly every religion in the world. I hope this helps you.

As the ancestors of some of the kids who go to Stonehenge may say "Get a job, go to church, respect authority and don't take illegal substances" it is unsurprising that the Ancestors are conspicuously absent from 'New Age' thinking.

I feel that, certainly from my point of view, finding ways we can connect more with nature is the way forward helping the planet, it is intuition or instinct that I'm drawn towards following something that helps us connect with the divinity that is within nature itself, that is my fundamental belief, that nature is sacred, there are dark aspects but there are the wonderful aspects, I'm not quite sure if druidry is the right path for me but I definitely feel an ancestral affinity for celtic/pagan music, language and respect for the natural world and maybe some aspects of druidry can help understanding about the cycle of the seasons and nature.

Thank you so much!!! Years ago I started learning about Druidry. A high priestess told me I would like Wicca better, AND HER COVEN needed one more witch. I just didn’t feel impelled to join after a period of time. A few years passed and once again a new high priestess recognized something in me and again I was observing rituals. It just didn’t take hold. Now I again feel the call but to what? Each video I see tells me CLEARLY I am intended to be a Druid. Thank you for your wonderful work.

When I placed my palm on her cold mossy bark, I heard, *VERY* clearly ..."Ériu* as if someone was speaking it to me directly in my ear.
I of course, googled it. As I never heard of the word before.
Lo and behold it is the Goddess of Ireland.
I knew from that moment on that I was meant to connect deeper to my Celtic roots.
It is funny though, as a practicing elective page, I never felt like I needed a specific path until recently, I am feeling the deep call of druidry.

Modern Druidry isn't anything like Original Druidry .. Modern Druidry is corrupted .. by christian ideology .. and by christian hierarchy .. none of that existed in Ancient pre-christian Druidism .. I've been a Druid for 44 years .. I began studying when I was 10 .. there are no "classes" in Ancient Druidry .. there are no "Bards" and "Ovates" as second-class citizens to "Druids" or "Arch-Druids" - that is not how Celts think - that is a corruption introduced by christian hierarchical bullshit .. that is not how true Celtic Druidic Society is formed .. all people are equal ..You study everything - Music, if it interests you, Art, if it interests you, Magic, if it interests you, Poetry, if it interests you - the core teachings are the study of the Trees - how they grow, what makes them grow, their lifecycles, what injures them, what poisons them, how to communicate with them, what message are they sending us .. the stars, and the moon, and the planets - how they move, their relationship to the seasons, their influence on earth, how to read them, how to understand their message, the meaning behind the cycles of the ecliptic, the meaning behind the cycles of the moon .. the Mountains, the Animals, The Birds, The Reptiles, The Insects, the Fish, the Lakes, the Rivers, the Wind .. - how they grow, what makes them grow, their lifecycles, what injures them, what poisons them, how to communicate with them, what message do they have .. Druids are not "one or the other" - they are all three - they are an Artist - a Bard, they are a Healer - an Ovate, they are a Druid .. their teachings, their studies, their place in the Tribe .. is nearly identical to a Native America Shaman .. An Elder .. A Spirit Walker .. someone who understands the world .. understands the signs coming from the world .. and uses them to inform the Tribal members on how to maintain balance with the World .. the rituals are nearly identical - they serve the same purpose - harmony with Nature .. communication with Nature .. listening to Nature .. respecting Nature .. every Native American Shaman .. every Native American healer .. is a Druid .. we do the exact same work .. the Animals .. and the Great Spirits living within the Rocks and the Wind and the Trees .. speak to us .. and we must listen ..
