  • Stargardt disease is a rare eye disorder that is diagnosed in children and young adults, usually between ages six to twenty. It causes progressive central vision loss in both eyes and is commonly referred to as “juvenile macular degeneration”.
Stargardt's patients often have a hard time reading, using a computer or tablet or seeing the board at school. Their eyes get tired. They may not pass the standard drivers license vision exam. They are often light sensitive.
With special glasses for Stargardts we can improve reading, using the computer and reduce fatigue and tired eyes. Many Stargardt's patients can drive with bioptic telescope lenses in California.
Dr. Ashcraft has filled out many California DL-62 forms for the California DMV allowing them to pass the California Vision requirements. For more information on the DMV DL-62 visit our website page "California DMV Vision Requirements Simplified" at www.familyeyecareoptometrist....
