  • A deep dive into the Behringer MS-101/MS-1 analogue synthesizer where I pull out 10 patches that showcase what this little synth is capable of. I then develop each patch and talk about where it could go from there. You can skip to each patch using the links below.

    Hey thanks for posting this! I just got an ms1 to learn basic synthesis and creat some phat old school sounds. I dig how you explain everything and watching you tweak the settings is really helping my brain understand how they affect the sound 🤘

      This is a PERFECT synth to start with! I been playing with mine again a lot lately, run it through some chorus or delay or reverb or any combination and you’ll take it 10 levels higher!

      So I watched this vid again while following EXACTLY what you were doing, and when I turned on the arp and tried to match exactly what sound you had, I was hearing this crazy polyrhythm while listening to our synths together! Im a noob and it sounded cool and blew my mind. Thanks again for this vid! Its such a help for a noob to learn from

      One of the biggest mistakes is fake news! Yes analog is awesome! But digital is cool too! Don’t limit yourself to someone else’s theory that it’s got to be analog to be good! Something else is these keyboards seem to get boring without effects, be fore I knew what I was doing I got a MicroKorg, excellent basic keyboard, I sold it because of no effects and saw and sine are boring alone! Good luck with your journey!

    Hi Robin! This has become one of favorite keyboards, it’s an excellent controller, it’s great for adding modular, reds my favorite color! lol, I appreciate your videos and hard work! I’ve been planning a CZcams channel for about 8 years and I’m almost there! People don’t realize how much is involved! Sure, I could have done some cruddy audio, cruddy video, limited content, but that’s not my style! I wish I could contribute to all of the creators that constantly give me new ideas, I just can’t on disability. One of my pet peeves is better get what I want when I can afford it so in the future and I have to ration food and live in a box I’ll be ready! Loved the video! Thank you!

    I have been making techno since i was 13 in 1993... i like this guy he has a good vibe and i like the fact he says to put all the knobs and slides to not or 0 in usa language. I almost filled a warranty return on my neutron synthesizer because it made no sound...it was one knob the distortion set at 0.. took 5 minutes to release i was a dumb ass. Lol. It happens even with decades of experience. In my defense i could only afford digital synthesizers for 20 years at $1500 to 2k each back in the 90's and 2000's now we can all enjoy this cheap analog reinsurance.. $300 look out crystal method and dead hack i mean mouse. My first synthesizer was a mc505. Then a nordlead 2. If anyone here likes the ms1 look up the vc340 to pair her with

    • @Eargulp
      @Eargulp Před 3 lety

      Yeah if you get lucky enough to get one of the functional ones and not having to send it back 4 times before you get one that passed quality control. I was excited as well after the model d/pro-1 etc having great build quality but man the behringer 101 is just so cheaply build and the filter is very mediocre imo. I’d go for the Roland one, that one will last for years.

    Brilliant patching on a wonderful synth. I’m a bit late to this video I’m afraid, but I’m trying to find out if the hold switch applies only to the arp/sequencer or will it also serve as a hold function to enable drone on a single note without the sequencer being used. Thanks if you can answer. Ps you’re the reason I got into modular with your video o. How to build a system, with power supply etc, so thanks again!

    • @MoltenMusicTech
      @MoltenMusicTech  Před 4 lety

    Hi, I would like some advice please. I have a small home studio for producing electronic music and would like to record some quality video clips using my Oneplus 6 smart phone but using a direct feed from my mixer. I have a Behringer XENYX X1622USB mixer where the master goes out to my monitors. I am thinking of buying the ZOOM H4n Pro field recorder and need to know a couple of things. Firstly, will I be able to record a direct audio feed in to my phone going from the mixer in to the ZOOM and then in to my OnePlus 6 smart phone. Secondly, if this is possible, are you able to advise on how to set this up from beginning to end please including what cables would be required, where and how to connect everything up.

    • @crnkmnky
      @crnkmnky Před 3 lety

      Assuming the Oneplus 6 accepts USB Audio input, you can probably feed it that way, but I‘m not sure about which camera apps allow audio sources other than the built-in microphones. Get a USB cable which matches your phone’s charging port. The other end of it should match the USB out of your mixer or recorder.
      If you’ve got a Zoom recorder capturing the performance, why do you need an identical track on the video file? Record the live monitors with the phone’s internal mic, and synchronize with the Zoom recording afterwards. I’m not sure it’s worth the trouble of trying to feed all of this into an Android phone _and_ keep all of it in sync.
      Then again, video editing _is_ a chore… I wish you luck with pulling this off. 👍

      Sure, synthesis has been the same since the 70s. Bit like guitars really but we do enjoy finding our own way with them 😀

    • @KaeRZed
      @KaeRZed Před 2 lety

      In theory, you're right. But, especially regarding VCOs and VCFs, the resulting sound won't be the same depending on the synth : for example, the same settings on a Neutron and a 2600 will not sound identically.
      In fact, what you're saying about synths is like saying that all guitars have the same sound because they all have 6 strings... ;)

      @MoltenMusicTech  Před 2 lety +1

      Rollin' my eyes right back at ya fella. If you look into the context of my seemingly infamous "plastic" comments it wasn't a criticism, it was an attempt to articulate what it was about the SH-101 that gave it that distinctive sound, that particular quality. That quality in a discussion i had with Noir-et-Blanc Vie and Divkid came up as being described as bouncy, or balloon like or plastic and that seemed to fit. Of course some people take that to mean that I was saying it was a bit cheap or Fisher Price or something when that wasn't the intention at all. These patches exhibit plenty of the bouncy, rubberised plastic quality to which i'm referring. I hope that clears up any misunderstanding for you :D

    The SH-101 was boring monosynth with no save locations (like most of the other synths that Behringer has replicated). I'd like to see them clone an SCI Prophet-5 or Yamaha CS-80.
