I'm gutted that Marcella is out....she is just awesome and I was so looking forward to her being in the final - and probably winning it. She needs to make an album now because she is something special.
I've only JUST found out that Marcella was in the bottom 2. I am utterly dismayed with the idiot voting public. This shouldn't be a popularity contest. This is a SINGING contest, and NO ONE on that show can TOUCH her. MARCELLA TO WIN!!
I understand why you don't agree. I meant it SHOULDN'T be about personality (or lack of, in mmany cases). Regardless, Marcella is both a great voice and a great personality. She is very real and just so talented, it should SCARE people into submission :)
yeah i know it doesn't sound like it but this aria is actually one of the hardest to sing ( had to sing it for a grade 5 singing exam but i had been singing classically for years then for grade 6 i had to sing the back Gounod version which is even HARDER ) ....the amount of support you need to do the intervals and keep the legato is insane ..and the technique you need ..if you don't sing classically you won't get why this is so hard but it is .....musically she fell out of time also the accompanist had to stop and readjust and the legato faltered a lot ....you can't hide in arias like this ...the line is there or it isn't.its all technique ....who the heck are the judges tho?? i agree tho for a colatura she really nailed the lower reg ..at least they didn't give her the back gonoud version ...haha that's awful
Agreed. Wonderful voice, but just not appropriate for this piece. You really need a soft, gentle, and pure voice, and hers is just more suited for other opera genres.
I think Kym Marsh was going a bit for the sympathy vote - crying in the VT before her performance, and then crying after her performance. I could be wrong of course...but she is an actress.
I don't agree Problembeing that it's a Singing Contest, not a popularity contest. These are 'singing performances' and underline performance. I love Marcy and see her in the finals. She made it through and that's what counts.
Beautiful performance! I also appreciate the minimalistic approach - voice with harp! But why for Marcy's performance was chosen a song which even is not an opera piece? There are so many opera (or operetta) arias that would suit the format of the show so well and would please audiences even better then Ave Maria which many would consider ... well ... banal. To name some - Vilja Lied form Merry Widow Mein Herr Marquis from Der Fledermauss Strahlender Mond form Der Vetter aus Dingsda

Its disgraceful and probably down to all the jealous young girls who make up the majory of voting on nearly every singing show,that Marcella was in the bottom 2 this week!I sing tenor and its obvious she's the best voice by a long way on here,followed by Kym and Bernie.Marcella has a much better voice than Kath Jenkins,no big opera company would touch KJ,but with more training Marcella could cut it as she has the quality in her voice that KJ will never have.Marcella is superb .
don't stress guys, in a way i think this was good this happened- why??! well because the fickle public will know vote for her because of her weepy VT. it's a shame because an immensely talented spellbinding performer like her shouldn't have to rely on that to secure a public vote... but alas this is the monster of reality tv, sympathy votes are loved by the public so all i can say is MIGHT MARCY TO WIN!!!
Just goes to show that a piece that is written to glorify and showcase the beauty of the voice, does exactly as it was intended. If you don't have the beauty to the voice and the technique to carry it off, it will sound like a train wreck, which this does. Again, not her fault, it was chosen for her and this is for a trained singer with control over their instrument. Just another reason why this show is ridiculous. Make it stop!
