    The scorebook shown here is designed for tiny kid leagues. When you advance beyond the age groups where every kid is in the batting lineup, there are much better books available. Keep in mind that in real baseball and softball, there is no reason to use a scorebook cluttered with 17 batting positions. Look for layouts printed in landscape orientation and space for 11 batting positions/10 innings. Also look for books that provide a comprehensive collection of tally columns. Be aware that accurate stats mean something. A good coach knows how to use cumulative stats to his/her advantage in making informed management decisions. Credible scorekeeping is essential at the high school level. Use travel ball and the younger leagues (where accuracy doesn't really matter) to develop your scorekeeping skill. What is shown in this video is a good bare-bones start to the process of learning how to keep score. 😀

      I usually just write HBP some where in the box instead of any of the other marks.

    What if someone catches a fly ball. Do you just put that position’s number without a dash to another number since they don’t throw it for an out ?

    • @ManagerKiley
      @ManagerKiley  Před 2 lety +2

      You would put F9 (if it was a fly ball caught by the right fielder)

      Strike through the next inning and label the inning as the inning you’re in and label the other innings accordingly

      The standard shorthand for this is IBB (intentional base on balls).

    At 5:29 What does the 2 after the K mean?

    • @ManagerKiley
      @ManagerKiley  Před 2 lety

      That means it was the second out of the inning. The K is the strike out and the 2 shows it is the second out.

    How do you document fielders' choice?

    • @ManagerKiley
      @ManagerKiley  Před 2 lety

      You would put FC in the box and mark who was out in their own box

    • @dogpatch75
      @dogpatch75 Před rokem

      The batter reached on an FC (was not out), so "FC" goes on the batter's record. Record the assist/put-out on the player who was actually out and note "FC" there as well (ex: 6-4FC). This allows you to easily identify who reached base and who was put out on the play. Reaching on a fielder's choice goes against the batter's batting average.

    What if the players do not play the same pose for the whole game?

    • @ManagerKiley
      @ManagerKiley  Před 2 lety

      you can just write in a note either in the comments area or write in the new positions and put a note of what inning they switched. Its up to you/ the team. Because many teams use the book for offensive plays more than defensive it is not a priority for many to note it.

    • @dogpatch75
      @dogpatch75 Před rokem

      Strike through the original position and note the new one. Keep in mind that tracking defensive rotations normally are unimportant except for pitching changes and situations involving the DP/Flex rule (softball). The Designated Player plays offense and the Flex Player plays defense, with the two players being associated with each other.
