I had my 2000 maxima throwing a 1126 code. Said it was thermostat stuck open probably. Watched your video ,and am replacing mine tomorrow. I made it easy by just draining the water system to replenish with new antifreeze. Will get back to ya with results.
@poorbaaby lol.. well it wasnt the head gasket. The radiator is leaking. But the antifreeze has been not exploding either, so I am going to assume the thermostat was bad as well :)
Thanks a lot for this! Greatly helped me :)
Pretty good vid. I wouldn't use the silicone except maybe a couple dots to hold the gasket in place. It is alot easier to make a leak with all the extra silicone. You might have let your viewers know to check for any old gasket material on the mounting surface as well. :) Thanks for the info.
GOOD REVIEW & GREAT CAR.
Love the car videos Scott! :)
Great Video, I`m from Mexico and I have a Nissan Maxima 98, is the same situacion to replace the thermostar? Tks
after you replace thermostat and hoses do you Burp cooling system funnel in radiator with coolant half way up till all bubbles are exited.
good job scott, nice video :)
@jumar1281 Well, we think the radiator might beleaking as well. The rate of losing anitfreeze has slowed down dramatically an no more "explosions" But it looks like there may be a radiator leak as well
Dope video
@coolboy065 Thanks brotha :) Appreciat the kind compliment!
Good work
good instructional video
@jumar1281 no.. radiator is leaking too... half the problem is solved :)
For a Camaro 2ss, would you consider getting a better cool air intake?
Hey brother, you didn’t take out the antifreeze
OhTheHermanity Hey bro i need some advice. I have a thermostat issue as well. Everytime when I turn on the heat, the temperature goes down. In addition, i was cruising the freeway between 50-60 mph and the temperature went down some. Does the thermostat need to be replaced?
@coolboy065 Thanks brotha :) I do my best to help! :)
So did it end up working or was it the head gasket?
selling out, like a boss.
Thanks......this helped fix my girlfriend's car. Keep posting! :)
Haters gon' hate, means you doing something right. Let's see some more work on the camaro though, can't wait to see it finished.
@matthew8623 Don't worry, I will be ok. No this was a friends car :) Thank you for the support :)
Excellent
So, how much did your friend have to shell out to ultimately have the head gasket replaced? ;)
You test a thermostat by heating it in water. If it begins to open at ~180'F (for this thermostat) it's working. If it doesn't open fully or it doesn't open at all, it needs to be replaced.
Thanks
5:48 Yes Scott my bag is still in space!
@greenfarmer60 ohhh that is a great idea!! Nice man!
best way i found to see if the thermostat is bad or not is put it in a boiling pot of water and see if it opens measuring the temp to see where it opens at
Nice
Isnt there another thermostat on this one to change. My parts say there is two?
Richard Chagoya there are two the one he showed you and the other one is on the driver side
I cannot get the top left Bolt And for some reason cannot find a thinner ratchet any ideals
How did you get the bolt in front of the tensioner? What socket wrench did you use!?
Holy shit when I seen your face I was like nahh it can't be Scott, but shit I was wrong. :DD So awesome that your not into just bodybuilding.
Money's tight for some folks and some thermostats are high priced today too so you can test one first after removed.
Once its taken off you inspect it to see if it's closed or open?
If it's "not" fully closed when cool it is bad allowing anti to flow when cold so the anti takes very long to heat up so does your car's heater, heater not real hot? Buy new therm here, test over, it's spring is bad!!
But' if fully closed you still can test it before simply buying a new thermo by setting it in a pan of water on a stove.
The operating range number is on the thermostats rim & most engines generally have 180-195 deg F, this is the temp it's supposed to be fully open at. If not opening right the car runs too hot and may overheat!!
Opening Test?
We know water boils at 212 deg F, so a 190 deg thermostat spring should collapse and be fully open allowing anti to flow through just before your water begins boiling. If not fully open near the stated deg on a thermostats rim in pan it is surely a bad one. Buy a new one now!! Fully or partly closed with water boiling, it is junk so toss it as far as you can toss it..lol
If one has a 200+ deg Infrared temp gun/gauge (see link) it really helps to determine more accurate temps while testing. They are cheap now and very handy to have.

Some Nissan Maxima/Infiniti vehicles have a "Water Control Valve" located on back of engine (Driver side).

@ZerKaRizzLe cool story bro, god forbid I have a passion for cars too
recently did a coolant flush/thermostat change on my subaru. thermostat is a hard spot to get to on ej25 engines, got completely soaked in coolant but it was totally worth it!
This car has two terms
@TheMrMeyer08 Check out my video "2010 Camaro Intake Install- Scott Herman"
Placing the old thermostat in hot water will show you if it is broken or not
Thermostat doesn't regulate pressure, that's the job of the rad cap.
WATER TO GO JACK,& MASTER IF ALL TRADES!!! IT WORKED, YES?
this is cool im sure u liked the extra cash from autoshepard haha. jk. but this is sweet try and do more if possible. about to his the shoulders/traps HARD!
@matthew8623 From all the videos I have seen about scott, this is not his car, he drives a 2011 or 2010 Camaro SS
put the old thermostat in boiling water to see if it opens. if it doesn't open, it is bad
I hate the fact that insurance costs so much!!! in England, you pay more for insurance than you do for the car, i'd love to own a nice car like scotts
@gdalewiscon55 haha if by paid you mean a free part to fix my friends car :) Then hell yeah! :)
How to fix dirty hoes with Scott Herman!
@gdalewiscon55 hit*
@ZerKaRizzLe More like helping people like a boss lol...that is some weak trolling Zerk. Weak trolling is weak.
