- Radar Loop of an extremely long-tracked, deadly, and violent supercell that spawned two violent tornadoes that caused catastrophic damage across Northeastern Arkansas, Southeastern Missouri, Northwestern Tennessee, and Western and Central Kentucky on December 10th, 2021. The first violent tornado was the Monette, AR EF4, which was overshadowed by the second violent tornado after it. The Mayfield, KY EF4 tornado is the most notable and impressive tornado of the decade so far, tracking for 165 miles in nearly 3 hours, causing catastrophic damage to numerous cities along its path, while maintaining a very high intensity for most of its life.
for sure one of the most impressive supercells of the last decade
Something I've noticed with this cell in particular is that rotation wasn't particularly that impressive until around 0:06 when the outflow from the main storm produced an outflow boundary that started forming storms on it's flank. The flank storm acts to "nudge" the rear flank downdraft of the Mayfield cell and induces tornado-genesis. From that point forward, the flank storm consistently keeps up with the hook echo. Very rare, if ever, do you see a completely discrete storm produce a tornado without some form of storm interaction.
Just when you think the hook is prominent, it becomes even more of a hook
thing spent a lot of time as a donut instead of a hook
0:12 is when it hit mayfield
