If you look around our Universe, you can see that it is permeated by many shining galactic filaments and walls.
Between them there are vast stretches of the deepest space, hundreds of millions of light years in diametre, called voids. These tremendous gaps in space reach such an incredible size that the largest galaxies appear like grains of sand in comparison, and some stars burn out completely faster than a photon travelling from one edge of the cosmic abyss to the other. Even the omnipresent echo of the Big Bang is dies down in their vast depths, which hold many secrets and mysteries.
That means it's time to go to the very heart of the great abyss in space called void.

Most of the universe is empty space. Take into account that most matter at the atomic level is also empty space then it becomes even more empty. It is so empty that statistically matter is almost nothing compared to emptiness. So basically the universe can be said to not contain anything at all, statistically.

Nothing like being scared by a Big Old Void right before bedtime. 😉 As far as why the cool spot appears cooler than it should, I've often wondered whether photons experience a sort of drag exerted onto them by "empty" space itself. This would make them slightly less energetic, hence "cooler". When this is finally confirmed, I want a share of the Nobel. 🏆

  • @John_II

Reminds me of the bigger question: the universe is expanding into what exactly? If there's no matter or space/time beyond the edge of the universe (ostensibly), then... what's there? The answer might literally be "nothing" in the truest sense of the word, but I'd have to ask, could we perceive "nothing". I guess it would just be blackness devoid of matter and time and space, but even then, how could you actually tell? If you cannot touch it, smell it, see it, hear it or taste it... what is it?

The interstellar viewing of space always without a doubt leaves me in absolute awe✨ There’s so much to discover & learn. A lot of others get diminished by the shear thought of how big our universe is, but I get so engaged to it. Humanity is old enough to have explored our planet but far too young to have traveled beyond our solar system. I wish I could be alive to see that come to fruition. Great video guys! Hmm the limitations of a universe's expansion, found in or beyond the voids, aside from the disappearing edges of what has already expanded (the volume of space) beyond the visible edge of the known universe, voids could either be a space between other universes if their distances revealed that shape of the universe or if they were uniformly distant which could better imply a space between universes. Or on the other hand it seems less likely to be massive voids or dark clouds of matter/energy where gravity is not playing its role or by the rules where a matter filled void would be otherwise gravitationally filled with galactic clusters. We should be able to calculate that over a given period of spacetime, that a certain volume of space has expanded beyond our visible horizon.

The universe is so vast, if we somehow are able to travel at the speed of light, the limit of our travels would be just the local group, everything else is unreachable because the expansion of the universe is faster than the speed of light. We would need to fold space to travel any further. That goes to say that everything that occurs outside of our local group doesn’t concern us at all. If the vacuum decay is already happening outside of our group, we don’t even need to worry about it.

    • @alexd7592

Very nice video "Kosmo" and the interesting topic of voids, thank you!
All of these incredibly large structures in space suggest that there must be other enormous external structures in the entire cosmos (universe, multiverse, megaverse).
Our universe alone is actually far too big to be just one universe. I'm starting from a different theory, I think our universe consists of several so-called pocket universes (more or less the size of a supercluster, like Laniakea), which would also quite well explain the different expansion speeds in the different parts of our universe /multiverse.
But we actually still know far too little to make a reasonable overall picture of all cosmic structures; it's all simply incredibly gigantic and a bit complicated as well...

In our ignorance, we mistook vast oceans for mere puddles in the cosmos' grand design.

Can you explain why Outerspace mission doesn't travel orthogonally to our orbit?
Isn't ISS proving that space has a perceived north?
Since ISS is in orbit, how hard would it be to change direction upward or downward, would it prove outerspace flatness?

The voyagers passed thru the ort cloud and heliopause. It's hardly hypothetical

How does the cosmic microwave background "die down" within a void?

That was enjoyable and exciting. My first trip to the void. Would we see any galaxy light if we were in the center of void?

Yes, it is not a black hole but just empty space (or dark matter but that we don't know) where light passes through.

Our galaxy is but a grain of sand on an island of super cluster galaxies in an ocean of voids.

I wonder if there are invisible to our light spectrum galaxies in between these galaxies. The universe is impossible so anything is possible.

21:14 the void (billions of light years away) "is mysterious and dangerous" Mysterious for sure but dangerous, lol? How is it dangerous? Oh, if we went there we wouldn't have a place to refuel and replenish our water tanks! Got it!
