No one denies La Masia has rejuvenated and Barcelona are bringing some incredible young talents. but the lack of protection for these talents is what's costing their potential. This club are grinding these kids down the ground and not allowing them to mature for the future, we've seen it with Pedri, Ansu Fati, and now we're seeing it with Gavi & Balde, but hopefully the last two come back stronger. Barcelona need to address this and protect these young lads, if not... Then the promise of a rejuvenated Barcelona squad will be an unfulfilled team.

Every time a young player is rising, the Spain national team ends up calling them up, they play a lot of football before breaking down with injuries getting burned out before their prime. In the 2020-21 season, Pedri played over 73 games for club and country and since that season he has missed 40% of available games due to him picking up 8 injuries in the last 3 seasons. Gavi at the age of 19 has played a lot of games and he picked up an ACL injury and hasn’t played since November, Alejandro Balde hasn’t played since January and he played a lot of minutes last season. I really hope that Lamine Yamal doesn’t suffer in the same fate as Pedri and Gavi. He is seen as Barcelona and football’s next big superstar and he’s enjoyed a stellar season and is good enough for the Spain national team, but again similar to their young players, at the age of 16, he’s playing a lot of games. He’s another young player who’s at the risk of potentially burning out before he hits his prime. He’s already played close to 40+ games for Barcelona, for the Spain national team he’s about to make their squad for the EUROs and I expect him to play a significant role for his country, after that they’re even thinking about taking him to the Olympics. To avoid a repeat of what happened with Pedri in 2021, Barcelona needs to communicate with the Spanish federation. If he ends up getting injured, they’re at fault for it because you overplayed him. Barcelona are out of the title race in La Liga, they’re not in the Champions League final they have nothing to play for, why is Yamal still starting games. It’s better off to rest him because for his age, 40+ games is too much for someone who’s 16 years old and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets injured very soon and Barcelona need to do a better job at protecting the development of their young players.
