Sen. Scott's father was a veteran & needed medical assistance.
Sen. Scott's just voted NO to fund veteran's healthcare. He's not a better person.
He is a fake
Republicans don’t want to help anyone even though it’s sounds like his mother could use some help!
Crazy...guess he still hates his dad.
Trevor could Jordan Keppler this guy ... but he took it light on him... but I get it he has to take it easy on him so he'll come back.
The irony huh? These goons thinks we don't see them and they can just come and lie to us like nothing.
His voting record is all you need to know about this man. He's got so much to say about being black and witnessing the struggles of black people but can never bring himself to vote for things that protect and help us. At the end of the day that's literally all that matters.
So very true.
Not true
He's full of it. He talks about mother Emanuel shooting but he says there's no racism
The fact that he didn’t have the decency to approve a black woman to the Supreme Court is simply appalling.
Yup because he's trying to sever the chains to the state... he wants the African American population to be FREE. As long as the state keeps pandering to African Americans you cannot be Free. Step out on your own, decades of legislative crutches have weakened the African American populace and family unit. You can't strengthen something via artificial means without horrible consequences.
He lost me when he took to long to answer the first question… yeah black people are conservative… but the Conservative party is fascist….
yeah but Black people are overwhelming Christian. close to 50% of black Americans live in the South, it's inherently "conservative" in the nonpartisan sense. At the same time, Black folks vote Democrat because there's no ambiguity in the fact that the GOP writ large DGAF about Black people.
Bingo.
Being Christian and being conservative these days are has nothing to do with abiding to the old school definition of "party lines" --- if you're Christian then you'd love your neighbor as yourself, no questions asked. And that's not what the "Conservative party" - the republican party - is doing right now.
The black community has all the right to defend themselves, their image, and fight back - especially against a man who claims to be on their side but he's clearly just code switching to stay in office....
I can't even determine what his true motivations are. This man is a shallow enigma.
💯
@@dirkasheldon being Christian has nothing to do with being conservative. As the latter worships money a d is generally hypocritical
Isn't his party, the party making education worse by banning books, and other things that educate?
Yes. His party doesn't want their slaves educated
His party wants to eliminate the Dept of Education. This man is voting against his own values. I think he likes the novelty or he’s a liar about his values.
@@judykinsman3258 he's a liar about his values.

The rhetoric of a coward. He listens and rolls over, because he holds none of his partymates accoutable.
What your salty
Or himself. Uncle Tim would not be his assigned moniker if he actually did something of substance for the community that he only speaks passionately on in his book, but side steps on the Senate floor where & when it counts. This man disgusts me.
@@FatherofFFD Just because he has different political views than you doesn’t mean he’s an uncle Tim. In fact, it’s racist to be saying that.
It sure is easy to call someone a coward when you're not the one being shot at
I was in the audience. He was not well-received. The story about helping his grandfather vote fell quite flat, given that he is a cog in a machine currently trying to make it nearly impossible for certain people to vote.
Yeah I mean that's what I was saying. It sounds like a very touching story but it means nothing when your whole party doesn't want voting rights to be a thing it's just words at that point
Did he take any questions from the audience tho? Also did anyone boo him? That would’ve been funny.
Thank you for your comment! I was in the audience at another show years ago and the tv just shows certain moments . I was so mad that he appeared in the show !
@@VMohdude- If people didn’t boo Scott it was probably out of respect for Trevor.
@@mlggamer5296 Why do you think Repubs don't want voting rights?
"Woke supremacy is worse than white supremacy" - Tim Scott, who also didn't vote for Ketanji Brown Jackson
Yup! Yet again, Trevor dropped the ball big time. He did the same thing with Dan Crenshaw. He has no business letting these politicians come on and misrepresent themselves, lie and spread misinformation. It is disrespectful to his audience and a disservice to our nation. Sadly, it is interviews like this that make me realize just how big Jon Stewart's shoes are. I love Trevor but these interviews show that he can NOT even come close to filling those shoes. Sad.
This is your daily reminder that, "woke" means "not racist."
It's easier to make that kind of claim without a noose around your neck I suppose.
@@edwardallenthree Woke does not mean not racist, woke is slang for the conscious reality of the oppressed vs the oppressor which is directly connected to the new left or new Marxist of the 1960s and forward who switched from focusing on the worker as it was seen as less important to the reality of the time.
@@edwardallenthree it means using words like BIRTHING PEOPLE 😂which only 🤡use

@@bobclarke2242 Trevor can be president, in fact, Trevor will be President, of Mzansi. Respectfully Bob, he ain't yours, enjoy him while you can. He's only a migrant worker there to entertain you, for a while.
@@ntatemohlomi2884 wow ... With all due respect, Trevor does not simply entertain, he educates. Far more important to us than you imply. We will hate it when he leaves us.
Tim Scott talking about if he were President, he'd focus on education is rich considering his party prefers their constituents to be as uneducated and uninformed as possible.
This is also the same guy that said teaching CRT (which in Republican speak, is just actual history) is "teaching kids that they are oppressors". 😐
Yeah it's so contradictory and the part that gets me the most is that he said $760 billion on education and yet teachers are still broke which is what Trevor mentioned he doesn't take it seriously!
Repubs have been pushing for school choice for years; Glenn Youngkin won by running on the education issue. The only reason they can't get it passed is Dem blockades. And yes, CRT does actually teach white kids that they are automatically oppressors...that racism is embedded in our basically all of our legal system and policies, right now, and anyone that supports or benefits from those systems in any way and is also white, is oppressive.
When he "pivoted" to dodge whether he'd run as Trump's VP, that said all I needed to know.
Like trump would choose a black man as his running mate…that’s hilarious.

Tim Scott is stumbling and bumbling his way through a soul redemption tour disguise as a book tour. But you have to have a soul to redeem. He sold his soul long before he became a republican.
YESSSSSSS!
Did he loose his soul though? Thank you Daily Show and Trevor Noah for attempting to have civil conversations with guests of every available ideal. I've learned there is a philosophy embedded in the Bantu people of the Continent of Africa called Both/And Both/Hands or directly translated "we're all a little bit of everything". This philos is often disallowed in the USA particularly with respect to politics. We have 2 hands we use all day long and pretend one is dominant even while typing. We have 2 feet we use all day and pretend one is dominant when kicking a ball. These lying ideals in US thought are the foundations for thinking all people of color should hold the same political party as dear. "you're for us or against. us." is commonly used to discredit ones opponents when in reality we all have opinions that contradict our overall living principles. That being said, we also lie a lot in the US to keep from getting in trouble. Thanks again Daily Show, I love getting news through this medium, genius!
This!!!! Trying to tell tales about his hard working momma to humanize himselfiin our eyes. At some point parents do the best they can by their kids and they still turn out like Tim Scott.
Okay you guys, I promise I will do my own research (I do not live in his state) however was stationed in South Carolina over 10 years ago. Can someone give me just a quick breakdown of why he's disliked please?
It's a book tour disguised as something else. That's the only reason he's on this or any other show right now.😛
I thought when he mentioned that black folks are conservative he would've elaborated on that. Instead Rep. Scott started on the republican record from 2016-2020. I was giving the brother the benefit of doubt but the politician came out.
Absolutely
I don't have any problem with conservatives. I wish Republicans were conservatives. They're not, and Tim knows that.

The difference is the conservative politicians want to take you back to the days when your grandfather had to move out of the way for white people.
Preach !!!
#TRUTH
I was ‘Black’ and conservative once, too. Then I learned what true left-leaning radicals wanted in this world. Simply put, it is positive change for peoples’ existence; not to go back to a time when things worked out for SOME people. In USA’s case, conservatives were/are the oppressors. The Black community is prone to repeat its oppressors just like any other victim of oppression. That doesn’t make it okay.
Speak on it! Instead of Black Conservatives trying to help unify the black community, promote prosperity, and improve our education they stand in front of white audiences and castigate black people. Every forum they create, they only talk about white/black racism. Yes it exists but it's not the only thing we care about. More black and brown Representation in the Republican party is needed.

Will always listen to his work
Nope. I'm from South Carolina. He's giving one of the worst congressmen free publicity.
@@PityMe I mean, sure. But it also gives Trevor and his show credibility as one that is getting questions answered from all political views, not just ones he and the audience agree with.
@@drstclair This isn't some random congressman. I'm from SC and hopefully you understand how gross it feels that he actually grew up poor in the rural South like many of us, and he knows dang well how underfunded education and healthcare are to the point of being near last in the nation. He's gotten rich playing the part so Republicans can say "See, we can't be racist!" for opposing ANY criminal justice reform, voting rights, etc. Discussing would be fine if Republicans were even remotely living in reality. For example, it would make sense to debate and discuss where climate change efforts should go, but it's been decades and Republicans still pretend it isn't a threat, let alone whether it's human-driven, despite the military and intelligence agencies saying it's a critical national security threat. For a lot of leftists, it feels like talking to a brick wall because Republicans fear monger about "critical race theory," a graduate level subject, being taught to kids rather than proposing even something basic that most Americans could agree on because they want to hurt Biden's approval. A lot of people in SC are really struggling while he lets them (literally) die because they don't have health insurance.
I also live in SC and don't plan on voting for Scott, but isn't the point of democracy being able to disagree about and discuss issues? Even if you don't think the person on the other side is coming from a reasonable place, does shutting down any avenue for conversation help anything?
@@nathanbickel4362 I agree. Also, if you don’t let them talk, then you can’t hear their positions and deflections. We have to know why we like or dislike a candidate from their own mouth and their voting record. Then we can make choices.

"The first goal is to win" is the scariest sentence I have ever heard regardless of tribe. You should build by long time goals and strategy - long term visions. Not by a cultural war. If we want our politics to be turned into a narcissistic drama game show: continue - otherwise; the other quite non-voting percentages need to stand up. We can do free things like: Term limits for all sectors of government. Repel the "citizen united". Benefits given to average government employee should be similar to every citizen like: Healthcare for life, pension, OT, days off, etc.
YES! Nothing else in this conversation hit me quite as hard as that one line. If someone wants to change the political landscape change that.
Something like what you described was tried during Obama's Presidency. It's called the 'public option'. In that each person would have had the opportunity to buy the same insurance enjoyed by federal employees. Not only would it have provided an option besides private insurance, but it would have allowed the government to help affect the price of insurance through competition. Unfortunately, the Republicans did all they could to limit the scope of Obamacare and completely removed the public option from the law.
Politics have alreasy been turned into a game show!
I thought that was an honest thing to say. If you're fighting in an election the most important thing is to win that election. After that you can focus on how you are going to govern.

Maybe it's out of naiveté, but they give me hope that maybe we can eventually find common ground and move forward as a nation, instead of being stuck between 2 politcal parties unwilling to budge
Thank you! I hope that common ground comes soon, this divide is hurting the country!
In reality in the US you’ve only got one political party and a facist cult….. sort it out please America…. The rest of the world is watching & waiting🙏🏽don’t let America become AmeriKKKa 💚✊🏽respect from Ireland
Funny how a country of over 340 million who have the least voting record of all western countries ONLY have two parties. YOu have less then 50 % voting in your elections and you still havent figured out maybe just maybe we should abolish the two partie system and the medieval electoral college.
Well said!!!!
It's your naivete. Republicans believe in only a couple things...money and power.
I really appreciate how Trevor can have conversations with people from all sides, even the ones that he and others highly disagree with he's always collected and respectful when talking to people and it doesn't devolve into a screaming match or name calling.
I agree. Trevor always lets the people he interviews finish their thoughts. I watched Sen Scott on The View and anytime they didn’t agree they just cut him off or talked over him. It seems if your going ti ask a question at least let him finish his thought.
Trevor is the BEST interviewer among the late night show hosts!
Tim Scott's granddad grew up not being able to vote and lived long enough to see a black man elected president. Yet Tim Scott didn't support the John Lewis voting rights act. I love Trevor Noah and I understand why he had to walk the line in this interview. If Tim Scott wants credit go on Roland Martin or Tiffany Cross show.
Trust me there a reason for that
Trust me when I say: South Carolinians don’t even have a clue what’s going on with this guy or any other politician, lol education is non-existent there.
- A North Carolinian
They don't know ish. SC is a red state.
I found Senator Scott's history interesting. His telling of the pain and degradation of being Black in the US is worthy of learning more, especially for non-Black people whose understanding of history is lacking. He appears to have scruples and is generally steady and true when it comes to his beliefs and values. I took issue with a few things, though. Here are three that can be described succinctly. He said that his grandfather cannot read. Grandpa still couldn't read when Scott took him to vote for Obama. Grandpa was born in 1921. He made sure we knew that, too. Obama's first election was in 2008 when Grandpa was 87 years old. Scott was 43 at the time. Why did Tim Scott NEVER teach his grandfather to read? He even mentions that Grandpa has a photographic memory, which would make teaching him infinately more simplistic than teaching the average person. You're so close and you love him so much, Senator Scott, but the man still can't read. The second issue is that he speaks to how much money the federal government spends each year on certain governmental departments. One of them is Social Security. He says, "We spend $1.1 trillion on Social Security . . ." He needed to stop right there. Those are NOT tax dollars. The money that has come out of our paychecks every time we've been paid since we started working went into a fund from which we were to be paid back later in life. The government doesn't spend that money each year, it dispursed that money to those who earned it. It was not a tax. It was a withholding of our money for us to receive back at a later date after retirement. He needs to get a hearty clue about how that works. When the federal government takes money to sit on it, making interest by investing it or whatever, with the expectation that that money will be paid back to the suppliers of the funds, that is NOT an expenditure. This bull is one of my reasons for not being a Republican. That misconception needs corrected. The third addresses his comment about reducing the salaries of those in the US Department of Education to pay teachers more. If you took the entire budget of the US Department of Education and paid it to every teacher in the US K-12, they'd each get another $4.44 per month if they opted for a 12 month contract. Gee, what are they going to do with all that money? It seems he needs to look at numbers and reality before suggesting stupidity. I have to question his figures on everything!
If you had put some paragraphs in, I may have read your wall of text.

The first goal is too win! Translation: You do whatever, say whatever and join whomever to win. No matter the morals nor the ethics or even who votes for you to win. Welcome to the Republican party.
That's common sense, every politician is like that. Keys to power. czcams.com/video/rStL7niR7gs/video.html
Well actually, welcome to politicians.
I'm confused, his book details the systemic racism he and his parents face, but he keeps saying on Fox that racism doesn't exist?
Yep, and now we hear in his book about him being stopped countless times for driving when black but he has NEVER brought that up in the Senate or in interviews when other black men are subjected to that same injustice and worse.
“I’m being funny, I’m being funny.”
Aside from the obvious that he is failing miserably.
Jokes are Scott’s tactic to stall for time to avoid answering the question.
It’s a GOP gift conquered after a lot of training. Watch the interview with Kellian Cornway and you will see a true master.😅😅😅😅😅
Wow all of you are so incredibly bias, you won't even stop to listen to someone without criticizing. The problem is you, not him.

I've been listening to Tim Scott for decades.
The problem is the willfully ignorant like you
@@cneuhauser1 oh we heard him.,.counter any of our conclusions.
Tim Scott and Lindsay Graham have a lot in common. Imma just leave it at that.
Trevor is the best interviewer. Scott is clearly using his race as a bargaining chip. He gives me the creeps.
Very well put, my friend. I wouldn't trust him as far as I can pick up an elephant and throw it....
Respect to Trevor for the education tonight. Hopefully SC has learned something as well?
If people in South Carolina could learn, it wouldn’t be South Carolina.
@@FreeFoodforthePoor , You just saved me a comment.
Hmmm, you do realize they also elected Lindsey Graham....yeah, all hope is lost!
You can claim to be on the side of anyone while also being on a side that plays against them and you can even back it up with examples that show all the positive ways you can spin your argument while conveniently supporting those who disproportionately represent the opposite of your supposed beliefs as well as ignore any inconvenient facts. You can either be a double agent to change the effects of that side you’re only pretending to be on or you can be a shill for that side pretending you’re fighting against it. Everything this man says points to him being the latter. I hope history will prove it to be wrong.
Exactly
Apparently if he doesn't vote Democrat you don't consider him black anymore. Typical Democrat, skin color comes first, character is optional. Black people are reduced to nothing more than a black body to be thrown in the Democrat pile to harvest votes from then abandoned for 4 years.
He's certainly a politician, dodging every answer.
Considering how he grew up, and his father's experiences - why did he end up a republican? If it was up to them, he'd probably still be sitting in the back of the bus.
Some people want to be accepted by those that are holding them back . He is trying to prove to the republican party that he is different, I'm not like them . He is not interested in what other black people think of him. He is not smart enough to compete with the Cory Bookers and other black leaders in the Democratic party. So he decided to be a "token " in the Republican Party 🥳.
When he was growing up it was the Democrats who were keeping him in the back of the bus. He's hanging onto a party that doesn't exist anymore.

@@loreleilazuli8874 PS Is your moniker in reference to Lazarus Long's twin clones?
As a South Carolinian, this absolutely infuriates me. We famously have one of the worst public school systems and one of the highest poverty rates in the entire nation, both of which disproportionately affect the black community. And yet when Janet Yellen spoke to Congress about the "very damaging" economic repercussions that will come from overturning Roe (which will have a major impact on our already struggling economy), Tim Scott claimed it was "harsh" to think about it in those terms. As if it isn't his job as a US Congressman TO THINK ABOUT EVERYTHING IN TERMS OF HOW IT WILL AFFECT THE ECONOMY OF HIS STATE! How dare he sit there and list off statistics and claim to care about increased opportunities for his community when he is putting his own personal belief system over their well-being.
Well said.

I wonder if I’ll ever understand the core mindset of people who just wanna win in politics. My conservative friend (of 20+ years) won’t believe me when I present vetted facts anymore. He thinks I’ve been ‘blue pilled’, which is utterly confusing. He’d rather do what’s easy: ignore harsh truths that shaped our realities. It’s a shame I lost him to people like Ben Shapiro, Joe Rogan and Tucker Carlson.

Tim Scott: we spend $760 billion dollars on education
Trevor: and teachers are still broke
Me: doesn't sound like he takes education that seriously I'm just sayin'
The interview Sen. Tim Scott,
"I'm Just Being Consistent

I am glad I am watching this interview; I am seeing mr. Scott’s true colors
I think the color I see is fake
That he votes against his own interests? He grew up in poverty and oppression and supports a party that goes just that?

Prove it. He said peacefully and patriotically. Oh yeah, Maxine Waters urged on rioters while Kamala Harris bailed criminals out of jail. You probably think I'm speaking alien right now because you won't register anything before this sentence
Aka a black senator from South Carolina trying to get reelected in several weeks.
What a powerful story about his grandfather. I appreciated this interview because it did give me more of a perspective of who he is beyond his party affiliation.
When he said the black community is a conservative community he didn’t lie…..I was always waiting for someone to say that line 😂😂😂😂😂😂
that's not even a new. He failed to elaborate o that point. He started talking politics.
that is true however he failed in his reply or to elaborate that the black community is far more compassionate and realistic than he will ever be. Making a statement without qualification is meaningless and has no value. He is still who he is. His core values are reflected in all the votes he takes.
I wish Senator Scott had the wisdom of his Grandfather.
Me too 😊
Trevor you are the best interviewer I've seen nowadays. Brilliantly smart questions and clap-backs
there used to be this undying loyalty that some black folk had for the republican party and it was all do to Lincoln ~
the GOP HAS NOT BEEN THE PARTY OF LINCOLN SINCE "TEDDY" !
You realize more Black people has been voting Republican since 2016
Great interview. If there is one thing I hate, it the deflecting to past "accomplishments" politicians do. Keep your foot on they next
I 100% love Trevor Noah’s decision to interview all different perspectives with thoughtful questions and discussions.
760 billion on education... And I was honestly like "that's it?" Those are weak numbers. Bump those up
And most of that goes to schools in the suburbs with lots of tax revenue. Shame in him for not having the amount that goes to poor, undereducated communities.
When you invested all of your points into “Dexterity” stat to maximize your “Dodge” ability 👍
You really do some great interviews Trevor. Well done
I want Trevor to do the interviews during election season
I am so happy to have met this man on several occasions and to even share a meal. Our next president is one for the ages 🇺🇸
Son! You are the best, that was beautiful interview ❤️
I personally do agree with the senators remarks regarding Black people being more conservative. Black people are more conservative when it comes to kitchen table issues plus a majority of older Black voters tend to be more conservative (also religiosity in the subgroup may play a role). But overall I do believe that most Black voters are left-center
Black people vote based on social issues despite having conservative beliefs. For example, There is a lot of anti-lgbtq beliefs in the black community, but black people recognize that our stance on LGBTQ issues are not more important than human rights, civil rights and prison reform.
Thank you, Trevor because I have not been able to figure Tim Scott out. As a voter in South Carolina since 2018. The way he spoke about issues, had me with a wait and see. Today (8-9-22) has been very helpful. You got more out of him this morning then Gaye King. Lol
Gayle King is trash.
What have you figured out?
Every person has a story about struggles and no matter how it defines you when you start to shine it doesn’t make you better than those still left in the struggle. This man is not a person I would ever respect because his actions as a public servant do not warrant respect. Struggle me this and struggle me that is everyone’s story so I don’t have to read his book. I wore the same shoes but never once have I thought I am better than those who are wearing my old shoes. Get lost “Brother”.
Yes my friend
Trevor was having a hard time looking him in the eyes... you could tell he was uncomfortable.
I caught that. It's what happens when a man of integrity looks into the eyes of someone with no soul. The emptiness inside of Tim Scott is disturbing.
Man I love this. Thank you for this interview.
politicians are the most frustrating people. he never gave an answer for a single question asked. He spinned the question (defensively) and started talking about something totally different. JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION TIM!
I was told I was privileged yesterday, after debating on sleeping in my car or my COVID sick grandparents house. It's pretty funny how some people see privilege different than others. Either way it's considered homelessness. If something isn't going right for someone they go right to assuming someone isn't having a hard time.
I love how Trevor still maintains his neutrality (he has continuously categorically stated that he doesn't subscribe to the two sides political system) but yet when he offers his honest commentary when it doesn't sit well with the other side they always wanna manufacture non-existent "affiliation theories "
And by the way just speaking as an outside observer👍
Senator Scott,
Please don’t endorse my terrible Congresswoman, Young Kim. She does not represent her constituents and her staff does not do anything they say they will do. She does not belong in Congress.
Vote her out! Vote Blue!
Tell the truth Trevor! I just love you.
Really my dude? You see all the struggles of your people, then vote for policies that continue to hurt them. Go find yourself and your soul while you are at it.
