  • Grateful Dead Cornell 77 5/8 Barton Hall in a montage simulation. I recreated the entire live 5/8/77 Morning Dew performance by the Grateful Dead at Barton Hall. I synched the audio of the Cornell 1977 concert to video concert footage from 1974. This was a lengthy and challenging editing process.
For 45 years, all we've had is audio to experience this concert. No actual video footage of Cornell 77 exists. This is a video simulation montage similar to a music video. The video is intended to immerse you into this Morning Dew and to simulate the feeling of being in Barton Hall and experiencing this live version in person.
I created this out of pure love for the Dead and for those of you who love a good Morning Dew.

    Morning Dew 5/8/77 Info:
This 5/8/77 Morning Dew is definitely a standout. This Morning Dew is a sublime version of Dew that evokes many emotions including tears. The entire setlist at Barton Hall is legendary and the Cornell 77 Scarlett - Fire is my all-time favorite jam. The Cornell 77 St. Stephen - Not Fade Away - St. Stephen jam is also remarkable.
The Cornell 77 full show is amazing. The Morning Dew was a second set closer of the Cornell 77 concert prior to the encore. The Barton Hall Morning Dew is the go-to favorite version of Morning Dew for many Deadheads and Grateful Dead fans. The Cornell 77 Morning Dew is masterfully executed by Jerry Garcia's soft singing that becomes increasingly expressive throughout the 13 minutes. Jerry Garcia and his guitar solo are face melting! The build-up in the band's increasingly escalating energy is exceptional! This Morning Dew also ebbs and flows from serene ambience to scorching rock. I also love how clear Phil Lesh bass shines through in the mix. The closing instrumental and Jerry Garcia's guitar solo become more intense with every listen!
Music history was made on the night of May 8th 1977. Grateful Dead audio engineer Betty Cantor-Jackson made a remarkable sound board recording of this Grateful Dead Cornell concert. Cantor captured many famous shows but Cornell 77 Barton Hall is probably the most famous 'Betty Board'. For many Grateful Dead fans, Cornell 77 is their favorite show. Cornell 77 also serves as a great entry point for those just discovering the Dead. The 5/8/77 concert is special and extremely memorable! The Grateful Dead had many excellent concerts in May 1977, but I love this Morning Dew (and the Cornell 77 Scarlett - Fire)! Thank you Jerry Garcia and all the Dead for the beautiful music you guys made on 5/8/77.

Great work and beautiful for what it is. A fan using given technology, expertise and most importantly love for the Dead. You'll never make everyone happy and this is not misleading if you bother to read. Keep up the work and I look forward to the next one.

Dude this is brilliant to create the simulation to this and other classic shows. Same formula could be used for different eras using the cottage and photos that do exist…could almost have a live video for any show out there. Almost like “deep fakes”

Sure, this is a fine moment in Dead music, but it's not even close to the best, and it's hardly going to make a Dead fan out of someone who's not. Many, many examples of finer Dead moments exist, all subjectively chosen of course: admittedly, I've never been a big fan of Fire on the Mountain, so there's that . I'd tend to go for sequences where they're not just running the changes, but actively conversing with each other. Prime example for me would be the post-Truckin' sequence on Europe '72, but that's just one of many that are out there that just leave me wondering how they did that, in the moment and attuned so beautifully with each other. I don't get that from this clip, sad to say, but the Dead were a multi-faceted jewel. Not all facets are for everyone...
