  • In this video, I'm discussing the different types of bean to cup coffee machines.
    Scroll down to the bottom for time codes.
    Most people are aware of standard or semi automatic bean to cup machines, which deliver the coffee via one touch, but the user has to steam and pour the milk.
    Most people are also aware of the fully automatic bean to cup machines, also known as super automatic, one touch milk, milk carafe, or one touch cappuccino bean to cup coffee machines.
    But not everyone is aware of, or quite appreciates the value of, the in-between version known as the cappucinatore bean to cup coffee machine.
    In my humble opinion, the bean to cup machines with cappucinatore
    - which are usually cheaper, are a better option than the milk carafe machines, for the reasons I explain in this video.

    Thanks Kev for explaining how to use the Delonghi Magnifica in an easy to understand way. We’ve had this machine for over 2 years and never managed to get a decent cup of coffee out of it, and always blamed the beans and was on the verge of changing it for another make. Now, after watching your video we have made a flat white that would rival any coffee shop. THANK YOU!

    Great video. On the Gaggia Magenta Milk and the Gaggia Cadorna Milk, you can produce the milky coffees on one touch as well.

    Thanks for that Kev. I was looking at getting one of the Magenta machines but was going back and forth between the Plus with the pro steam wand, as I do like my flat whites, and the Prestige because I can be very lazy and like the idea of just pressing a button too. But of course I don't know how much of a sacrifice it is in terms of the milk temp and texture for a flat white from the Prestige. So the Milk version sounds like a happy compromise between the two. As long as the exposed steam wand on it is up to the job of getting a decent texture for a flat white. If so, I think you've helped me to make my mind up...

      Cheers Jon, yeah this is one of the reasons I think these machines are a good option, removing the cappuccinatore and using the steam pipe as a steam wand is just the same as pulling off the panarello sheath on the standard versions to get better foam, it's very similar to using the proper steam wand on the Magenta Plus. The main benefit of having a proper steam wand over using the steam pipe is they're longer so better reach into the jug and a bit more flexibility re jug position.

    I would love to see someone like Gaggia create a modular milker for a machine. I love the fact there is a pro wand on the Magenta Plus, but I know sometimes making a one button latte is all I can be motivated for - so a carafe like on the Prestige would be great. Is anyone else making such a thing?

    I seems to me that these machines would be great in a small office. Just press the button. In the home, a regular expresso machine or filter machine for the coffee aficionado. I will be interested in the upcoming reviews and who would use these machines.

      Cheers Robert, yeah I think bean to cup machines are a good option for office use.

      I'll give it a go from my perspective Robert. I was looking at an expresso machine but recognise that many of my coffees (working from home) are made in a short window between meetings. And I like foamy coffees! I currently use a simple standalone milk frother which I have become quite good at manipulating to create the hot milk/froth. I could pair this with a filter machine or cafetiere but - timing comes up again. For the filter coffee I also dislike coffee brewed on the heat too long (I am tainted by horrible filter coffee from 25 years ago in my past). For the office - these machines might be ok for a small office but the bean container and milk carafe would need someone changing them regularly - too frequently at my guess if there are a few coffee drinkers. At home a B2C looks like it can give me a good (not best) quality with convenience and fun (frothing with actual steam!) and without too much counter space taken up.

      @@Andybro007 Hi, I would say write to Kev as I am sure he has more knowledge of these machines. What you want is something you set up in the morning and push a button for a quick cup of cappuccino or latte.
      You see some commercial versions. Good luck.

    Hi Kev, do you happen to know how much the delonghi's grinds per second / setting? I have the delonghi dinamica ECAM 350.15, which has 5 'grind' levels but doesn't say exactly how much is used for each one, and short of literally taking a puck out, waiting for it to dry and weighing it im not sure how to find this information out

    I have gone down the rabbit hole of espresso machines and think I have decided I want a super automatic. I think we will use it more and probably get a better coffee drink from it (we know nothing about brewing our own espresso). I would love to have a wand and a container on the same machine, but cannot see paying for the Gaggia Babila or Accedemia. From all of my research I think I found the best of both worlds at a better price point. Am I correct in thinking that on the Gaggia Milk (cappucinatore) machines I can the benefit of the container type frothier, but if I want control over frothing or want a creamier froth, I can pop off the container and pop a wand on it? If so, then I just need to decide which Gaggia Milk machine to get. Thank you!

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  Před 2 lety

      Hi :-). Yeah, absolutely. With the Capucinatore machines, you can just pull the frother off and use the steam pipe as a steam wand. Or, if you get the Cadorna milk, at some point I've heard they're going to be making the pro wand available as an add on, so if you decided in the future you want to just use the wand and you want longer wand, with a tip, rather than just using the steam pipe, you could do that. Cheers.

    Suddenly I want to know all about cappuccinatore machines.
    Might be a while before it sinks in that a million CZcamss on every aspect of coffee making somehow managed to overlook the one type of coffeemaker that appears to do everything well without any of the hassle.
    Is it really this simple... what's the taste like from the Magenta or Cadorna Milk versions?
    Edit... so a bit of digging around tells me the Magenta & Cadorna are all as good as each other but the bigger ones hold more water & coffee and offer more auto drink choices.
    Is that right Kev? If someone just wants basic coffees for 1 or 2 people is the Magenta Milk the one to get?

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  Před 3 lety

      Cheers Tom, the espresso from bean to cup machines generally speaking isn't as good as you'd expect from a traditional machine in the hands of a seasoned home barista, but the vast majority of "normal" coffee drinkers would be more than happy with the espresso from most bean to cup machines. In terms of the different versions of each machine, the coffee is exactly the same, it's just the milk frother that changes on each version.
      Re the milk, you basically get the same milk texture from the milk versions with the cappucinatore frother that you do with the carafe versions, it's the same type of frother but its just that with the carafe version you have the frother in one unit with the milk, but with the cappaccinatore version you just have the frother, with the pipe going into your milk bottle or jug.
      Personally I'm not a big fan of the kind of texture you get from auto frothers, both cappucinatore and carafe bean to cup machines produce milk with froth, rather than microfoam.
      If you want really silky smooth texture to properly distribute throughout your coffee for a velvety flat white for example, in my humble opinion the only way to achieve this with bean to cup machines is either with something like the Gaggia Magenta Plus with a proper steam wand, a standard machine with a panarello "turbo frother" thing - just slide the panarello off and use the steam pipe as a steam wand - or a cappuccinatore machine, by simply sliding the cappuccinatore off and using the steam pipe as a steam wand.
      Cheers
