    This 1972 Honda N600 was the first production car Honda ever built. They are quite a rare sight today, this one being the only one I have ever seen in person. This example is highly modified, with the engine from a Honda VFR800 Interceptor motorcycle, a squential gearbox, rear-drive configuration, and a 12,000 RPM redline. This car is very fast, very fun, and is one of a very few cars I've ever tested where I have offered to buy it on the spot.
    The full build is worth checking out on Wheelwell!

    Hey guys, Dean here (builder).. wanted to drop in with a very sincere thank you to Mat and One Take for the love you've given this car.. Steve (the owner) told me this was video was going up today.. I still can't get the smile off of my face from watching Mat drive it .... During the time that I built and drove the car, I was always amazed at the positive vibes this little buzz bomb created.. So gratifying to see it here, and all of the positive comments- thank you ;-)

      He should install a quick shifter. So you would only really need the clutch for 1st

    • @zecc81
      @zecc81 Před 7 lety +6

      Rick Rucker The debate is coming from people who don't really get engineering I think, the design of the gear teeth is literally meant for it as long as you match the rpms close enough. A quick shifter is one step further and matches those rpms for you with a properly timed fuel cut mid-shift. If I were to venture a guess as to why the owner said to use the clutch, probably because this weighs roughly triple the weight of the bike and a bad shift will result in a substantial amount more torque applied to that motorcycle transmission

    • @somedude3639
      @somedude3639 Před 7 lety

      Then id tell him to use the clutch too. These Trans gearing is 500 rpm apart, he clearly revved 3k rpms to rev match a down shift. clutch = random ppl not fucking your syncro

    115 horsepower...
    And a guy that's driven almost every sort of car you can think of is having the time of his life.
    Let's think about that for a moment.
    I'm honestly sick and tired of the fighting for Nurburgring lap times, the latest million dollar hypercars that will be yesterday's news in a few months, or the basic-bro meat heads who's fullest extent of creativity is to copy-and-paste a 1000 hp LS or 2JZ swap to do nothing but impress their basic-bro friends and show off on CZcams. I could care less if the top speed of that thing was 100 mph. The ear to ear smile on Matt's face and the scream of that engine speak for themselves.

      It is a sport tourer, a gentlemans sport bike. Fast, comfortable, refined, reliable, excellent build quality, exotic engine configuration, great handling, great sound, and a true racing heritage going back to the 80's. You have no idea how important the VF and VFR bikes were. Im going to guess you are a young fuckboy on some kind of 1000cc or 600cc supersport. Im 20 and have owned one. You get a much more linear of a power band and more torque as opposed to an inline 4.

      Dontcallmeshirley sadly not even close. The 800s can be pushed well over 200 horse. The vtec would be nice for the little extra grunt from two valve down low. Everyone gets that backwards. Instead of the fifth cylinder ala rc211v Honda instead made the 1200 monstrosity that looks fine on paper but can't hang with a warmed over 750 or 800. It gets better fuel economy though right? Umm no. More durable? Also no. Better for upgrades? Nope. PC does almost nothing. Exhaust is an exercise in wasted money and really building one gets a broken engine fairly quickly. It wouldn't live long in a 1400 pound car either. Don't get me wrong they really aren't bad bikes but for the original asking price very disappointing. Honda heard the howls of frustration aaaand back comes the 800. In further neutered from "to enhance midrange performance ". Also still a fine machine at leftover prices. Some below 5k. But not exactly the firebreather the endurance racing bikes were in the 80s. Staying with the v4 a real upgrade would be the motus chevy/Honda/Ducati Frankenstein thing that just works. Or vmax 1700 or burly aftermarket twin or zx14. I'm a Honda guy but it's getting hard to defend brutally outdated overpriced products.

    • @brianlinton910
      @brianlinton910 Před 7 lety +2

      Dontcallmeshirley yeah that turned into a little more of a rant than I meant when I started writing. The 1200 is an okay bike. Just not close to living up to the hype. When they set out to replace the vfr 1100xx and pan/st all in one bike we expected more. Yeah at peak it's about 50 more horsepower, but the nasty dead spot between about three and five thousand makes it ride like a lot less. And yes it would take a serious build to be over 200 reliable horsepower, but a small car would be ideal for it. Lots of room for an intercooler or two so the supercharger does what it really should. I guess we were just spoiled in the 90s with giant leaps forward every couple years. Now it seems like its kind of the chicken and egg thing between shrinking sales and lack of innovation. The new bikes in general are fine of course. I built and rode a few. And get the itch to do something new again. The fire blades for example. The latest greatest can shave a few hundredths off on a well groomed track, but from a real world standpoint your 07 is just as good. And in my opinion preferred because it was/is just a good bike. Without the electronic childproofing the bike media and manufacturers have put ahead of hard engineering. Currently on an 05 rc51 btw. Older but still works. And yeah I miss the v4 burble down low and shriek at the top. Wish Honda would hear that and give us what they could have built.

      We generally place promotions on videos we've already shot - we kinda know what videos are going to be heavy hitters, and so we place ad spots accordingly. Plus, we shoot WAY ahead of time (this was shot the second week in March) and that way we have a deep catalog of videos which can be aired in any order we like, depending on who's buying which ad spots that week. I have a video I shot before this that I'm holding on to until next week because a client bought an ad spot that he wants to air with a specific type of video, during a specific week.

    There are some people that seem shocked how he could've been so blown away by "only 115 hp".
    I have both an '89 ST162 Celica (bone stock survivor), and an AE86 Corolla I'm in the process of resurrecting.
    My ST162 is my daily, it only makes 115 BHP and it boogies for what it is, and it's a total riot to drive, it's FWD and corners better than it has any business doing, it will fry/smoke tire from a dead stop in either 1st or 2nd, it weighs considerably more than this N600 at 2500 lbs.
    It's all about how the vehicle communicates with you, the vibrations, the smells, the way you can feel the suspension set up into and out of corners, the way the weight shifts when you accelerate or break.
    These small things add up, and as crazy as it sounds...THAT is what makes a good/fun driving experience.
    Power can be fun, but if the chassis is non-responsive, or the car doesn't have decent handling characteristics, it's gonna suck to drive.

    That's one of the best you've done. You can't hide the sheer joy of such a machine, love it!
