I have an Ender 3 pro , got the CR touch but wouldnt fit my board so i got a 4.27 board , i have a sprite head too , the Creality firmware didn't work so i found myself here , then about 5 mins in with my head spinning I doubled down on the oem firmware , shortened the file name to "firmware.bin" with a good working SD card and the .bin as the only file on the entire card and it worked, more perfectly than i could have hoped for , everything just works , now back to printing plastic shtuff instead of getting a degree in unrelated sheet.
@Teddybites Ender-3Pro_HW4.2.7_SW2.0.9.03_SpritExt_H300 was the file I used because I have ender 3 pro , sprite head and cr touch with 4.27 . If any of yours is different download the right one. Once dl unzip the file and rename it then put it on a totally blank SD card and boot , a 4.27 board has a bootloader . I can't say this too much though you have to ensure yours is identical to mine
@DiyProJames I have an Ender 3 Pro with everything you have as upgrades (Silent Board 4.2.7, BL touch, and Micro Swiss dual drive all metal) I followed your step by step instruction to compile the codes for STM32F103RET6_creality in Visual studio but after building code it reads (1) FAILED. Hello Respectable Mr. DiyProJames! If you have an opportunity and time I ask you to answer 3 questions, I hope you will not consider it annoying))). Once again, I want to thank you for your work, through which people, or at least some of them, appears some understanding. 1)First question. In the new versions of Marlin, when I start printing, the nozzle makes some kind of passage along the left edge of the table (bad!!!, table - russiаn terminology) termin, a few millimeters from the edge and along almost the entire length of the Y axis, and the nozzle touches the glass clamps. When editing the firmware, I deliberately reduced the size of the printing area by 5 mm. on all axes, but this did not affect the starting passage of the nozzle. Question - how do I increase the distance from the left edge for this feature? 2)Second question. I plan to install a no filament sensor. What value should be set HIGH or LOW in the #define FIL_RUNOUT_STATE [H/L] line and is the #define NOZZLE_PARK_FEATURE drain needed? 3)Third question. Now there are silicone struts to replace the springs, is there a point in using them. Thank you in advance for the answer and good luck to all of us!))
1. This is based on the slicing software.. Please watch this video. czcams.com/video/3J9NhwbziEY/video.html wipe line. 2. High or low based on the filament sensor. Try both states.. 3. I have never used silicone struts. I am still using stock springs and never had to replace them as of yet...
I have the ender 3 upgraded motherboard to 4.2.7 but when I press the self leveling it doesn't do the 8 points it scans to the left and the probe goes of the bed and the nozzel goes into the bed. What am I doing wrong
I'm getting a BLTOUCH_SET_5V_MODE is not compatible with the Z_MIN_PIN when attempting to compile. I think it may be because I am using a CR Touch with my 4.2.7 board. Thoughts?

Hey James, great video thank you. Question though, how did you get the numbers for your nozzle offset? Is this a standard set up or should I be configuring this to my Ender 3?
I couldn't cover everything in one video. This is part of a playlist. Long story short you should still manually set the z offset of the bl touch if necessary.. The other offsets are in relation to your type of mount. I cover it in this video here. czcams.com/video/3J9NhwbziEY/video.html
James I forgot to ask you if you would go thru the settings for an ender 3 V2. or go thru the settings by doing a google search that you mention. I would really appreciate it if you show us in the video how you do this. Think about it later

great video. I wish I had the knowledge you have with the coding part of 3d printing, everything else for me is a breeze but this stumps me. What type of basics do i need to do too understand how to compile my own firmware? Keep up the great work.
Most of the code has been written by the developers. Most of us are just enabling and disabling and adding some values to the code. All the complex work has been done. It's best to go marlin website / configuration part and go through their read material. marlinfw.org/docs/configuration/configuration.html Also you would need to learn how to use vscode with platformio. Thank you.
Your all over the place and your video and instructions, you say one thing and then you jump to another quickly without finishing what you started with.
Looking for 4.2.7 creality board firmware in Ender3 Pro for 2.0 and higher Marlin with creality BL - have downloaded and gone through endless stacks and but am too new to make sure all settings are correct in src code (even using example file provided from Marlin). If anyone has marlin 2.0.8 or newer source code that has been compiled/used in Ender 3 pro, please let me know if you are willing to share. I have used Arduino, and sublime editor in attempts to resolve issue with probe offset for XY because of location of Creality BL on the new sprite DD. Machine controller won't allow offsets to be stored "error-too far" appears, so I hoped for easy SW fix - maybe a bin for M851 offsets? Hoping to get a working source code that I can learn at own pace to revise with Arduino editor.
The firmware is pretty much the same for the microswiss or regular drive. I would do it, but I don't remember the x and y offsets for the old mount. I don't really think there was much of a difference in the mounts. Maybe 1mm off in the y direction. If you could find the x and y offset for the mount and let me know I can compile it for you. The only thing you may have to do is a e step calibration.
I'm not sure what you mean by adjust settings... Depending on what was upgraded you may not have to make any adjustments. Normally things are adjusted in the firmware.. So could you be more specific... Are you speaking of esteps, pid tune?
Strange issue im having, after following you guide and having the exact same setup as you, I have noticed that the z AXIS is default set super high so It wont auto-home or auto level as it seems to think the bed is way higher than it is. Any idea how I remedy this?
Hey James, I'm running into an issue, around 14:50, after going through platformIO and then uploading it back the bugfix folder, and going to marlin 2.0.X, it does give an option of the folder of .pio or any of the other folders like github or vscode. What am I missing? I'm also running on Mac OS.
Thank you for this video it has helped me for the most part. When I boot up the printer (ender 3 pro) it will throw me an error message and I will just hit ignore and it is somewhat fine until I auto home then the nozzle will just sit in the middle off the build plate. I don't know what I am doing wrong and I don't know what I am messing up with the coding. Is there any discord servers I can join to get more information for the printer.
I don't know what you mean by hitting ignore. I'm assuming the printer does not get halted. Have you checked to see if your z min wires are in the correct places? I don't know the names of the discord servers at the moment, but I'm sure there are groups available.
Hi DiyProJames. Thank you for your time put into sharing this process, this video has helped me understand how to compile for Ender changes. I have done my best to follow your guide step by step and I keep running into 2 issues that won't allow me to finish. Problem one is: "ERROR: Config files found in directory /Users/xxxxxx/Desktop/Bugfix-2.0/Marlin-bugfix-2.0.x/config. Please move them into the Marlin subfolder." I tried to move "them" to another folder but the message repeats when I compile again. I'm not clear on which Marlin subfolder to move them to. Problem two is: "Environment Status Duration ---------------------- -------- ------------ STM32F103RET6_creality FAILED 00:00:14.806" I really don't understand why this is an issue because I've checked over and over for spelling and capitalization and spacing for this in the platform.ini tab and from what I can tell it look like it's right. I hate to bother you with this but I don't know who else to ask.
I currently have the same setup as you .I loaded your bin file and if I home the printer it goes to the center of the bed and stands off the bed a good bit. do I need to erase the sd card before installing the bin ?
No. It should work as long as the bin file is unique and is on the root directory of the sd card... I'm not sure if this is what your getting at, but I think your saying the nozzle goes off the bed when making a wipe... or goes off the bed when going to the far back left corner. I think this video will help answer your question. czcams.com/video/3J9NhwbziEY/video.html

I am having an odd issue, and have searched around, others have seen this, but I tried all the fixes and none worked for me. I have an Ender 3, BLTouch, 4.2.7 silent board, everything works perfectly no issues with Creality firmware. I installed Micro-Swiss DD, and because it wants me to change the X/Y Offsets I have to compile custom firmware. Followed your guide to the letter. Everything works BUT the BLTouch wont drop its sensor. When I turn the printer on it goes through a self check just fine, but if I home the axis X and Y are fine when it goes to check the Z in the middle it just lowers till it crashes into the bed, BLTouch never drops the sensor? What am I missing? Note: Some of the fixes I found will make the behavior different where it will just not lower when checking the Z but never continues past that. Thanks in advance for any advice, I feel like I must be missing something simple...
I figured it out, I feel really dumb, but combing through your videos, which were EXTREMELY helpful BTW, I realized that due to the inadequate instructions that came with my BL-Touch coupled with my "noobness" at the time I originally installed it, I still had the Pin27 board in use and didnt need it at all. I took it out, swapped the 2 pins on the 3 pin connector and hooked it direct to the 4.2.7 board. BOOM All is working perfectly now. Thanks for all you do, truly invaluable!

Hello, when I compiled my firmware and added it to my printer I lost the ability to move my XYZ axis by hand, which setting do I need to change in my custom firmware to be able to move my axis?
It's normal for the steppers to engage when printer is powered on. You can disable the steppers with a m18 or m84 command. I also think there is a disable stepper function in the menu.

There is no way to know what's wrong with limited information. There are many different reasons it could have failed. You need to eliminate the possibilities one by one. Try to see if an unedited config.h file works. See if you've updated all libraries necessary. Etc...
Hi James. First, thanks for the tutorial. I am getting a couple of errors with Visual Studio. For configuration.h, it keeps telling me to update my includepath. It also gives me errors for PROGMEM, it says it's missing a ";". If I try to build it ends in errors with the LCD menu.
Try updating vscode. Make sure you opened the files in the correct path... Sometimes running the build twice clears up the problem... but make sure vs code is up to date and you have selected the correct working path..
Thanks for the video, it has a great breakdown. I do have a question that you might be able to help with though. I have a ender 3 pro V1 with a 4.2.7 board and 3.1 bltouch installed. I have also tried marlin and creality's own firmware. Any guess to what might be the issue?

Thank you.

Absolute legend sharing your compiled firmware. Thank You!!!
Thank you James! With your guide I managed to build Marlin for my Ender 3 4.2.7!
Thanks for the video! You do a great job of breaking everything down and explaining what you are doing.
Thank you for watching. Appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment..
I have an Ender 3 pro , got the CR touch but wouldnt fit my board so i got a 4.27 board , i have a sprite head too , the Creality firmware didn't work so i found myself here , then about 5 mins in with my head spinning I doubled down on the oem firmware , shortened the file name to "firmware.bin" with a good working SD card and the .bin as the only file on the entire card and it worked, more perfectly than i could have hoped for , everything just works , now back to printing plastic shtuff instead of getting a degree in unrelated sheet.
mind providing a link i have the same setup as you
@Teddybites Ender-3Pro_HW4.2.7_SW2.0.9.03_SpritExt_H300 was the file I used because I have ender 3 pro , sprite head and cr touch with 4.27 . If any of yours is different download the right one. Once dl unzip the file and rename it then put it on a totally blank SD card and boot , a 4.27 board has a bootloader . I can't say this too much though you have to ensure yours is identical to mine
That was a GREAT tutorial until the end. Full of info, guy spoke at a good speed
It reads incompatible with board creality_v427 and to use a different default envs. Do you have any suggestion to were to start to fix this issue?

will the SD card be a one-time process or do I just power my printer every time with the .bin file included?
awesome my friend thanks very much.
how are you using your SD card for printing .gcode objects? shouldn’t it have the .bin every time you power up the printer?

Can you help? I have an ender 3 pro, I have upgraded the motherboard to 4.2.7 I also have upgraded to a touchscreen, I cannot find the firmware anywhere, I have tried marlin and reality, oh forgot to mention I am a newbie to 3d printing, I am happy to pay you for you expertise, thanks
I followed your instructions step by step but I'm having and issue adjusting the Z offset... Once I press "Auto home" the printer will home, go to center of bed and rise to 10mm above the bed like you have it set to, in the program... My issue is that I cannot get the Z offset to a negative value (about 2mm +/- is needed more) to set the nozzle height to find the BL touch offset... Any help would be appreciated!
Yes, this video is part of a playlist. The final steps are you have to offset the z. This video is probably going to help. czcams.com/video/3J9NhwbziEY/video.html

Anyways, i just bought the 4.2.7 silence motherboard and bl touch for my ender 3, i followed every step and i have this problem: When i turn it on (even without printing), the bed starts heating up to 150 celsius. I don´t really know if the problem is related to the firmware or the new motherboard. Any thoughts???

Problem solved, I just messed up with the wiring. Everything works perfect. Thanks
Great, you were able to get it fixed. I was about to say your bed shouldn't be going over 100C. Were the thermistor wires switched?
@@DiyProJames I switched the red and black big wires between the red and black small ones (on the left side of the motherboard). Thankfully I customized the firmware to go off when the bed is overheated. I wouldn’t even seen it.
How can i get marlin for my ender 3 v2 with 4.2.7 motherboard? there's no 4.2.7 files on the configuration files example folder for the 3 v2, only 4.2.2 and the other two are for the big tree tech skr e3 and the mini e3
I am having the same fucking issue
It´s STM32F103RE_creality now instead of STM32F103RET6_creality
I'm getting a BLTOUCH_SET_5V_MODE is not compatible with the Z_MIN_PIN when attempting to compile. I think it may be because I am using a CR Touch with my 4.2.7 board. Thoughts?
how will I be able to put .gcode file on the SD card later after the first power up for the printer? do I have to have the .bin file along with the .gcode files??
Hi great tuto.if i have 4.2.7 board on my ender 3 and the printer is stock do i need to mod the config h and if what tank you
for some reason after i download VSS 2022 i dont have the left side tool bar like i see in other videos. and when searching for extensions there is no platformio ide there
Hey James, great video thank you.
I currently do not own a v2. So there is no way for me to see if it's working to configuration..
Hey! Thanks for the Vid. I only have one issue after updating the firmware. My Z axe does not go under 0 anymore. It goes up fine.
I don't think that the motor is broken, because it worked just fine before the update. Do you have any tips on solving that problem?

great video.
It's best to go marlin website / configuration part and go through their read material. marlinfw.org/docs/configuration/configuration.html
Also you would need to learn how to use vscode with platformio. Thank you.
hey man, i just upgraded to this board, ender 3 v2 , all i get is beeping now any ideas?

Great video James. I’m having issues with visual studio. Could you compile the firmware without the micro Swiss DD?
The firmware is pretty much the same for the microswiss or regular drive. I would do it, but I don't remember the x and y offsets for the old mount. I don't really think there was much of a difference in the mounts. Maybe 1mm off in the y direction. If you could find the x and y offset for the mount and let me know I can compile it for you. The only thing you may have to do is a e step calibration.
Do you have a video to show how to adjust the settings once the firmware is installed? Great video thanks!
You probably need to setup the z offset of your sensor on your printer.

Problem one is:
"ERROR: Config files found in directory /Users/xxxxxx/Desktop/Bugfix-2.0/Marlin-bugfix-2.0.x/config. Please move them into the Marlin subfolder."
I tried to move "them" to another folder but the message repeats when I compile again. I'm not clear on which Marlin subfolder to move them to.
Problem two is:
"Environment Status Duration
---------------------- -------- ------------
STM32F103RET6_creality FAILED 00:00:14.806"
I really don't understand why this is an issue because I've checked over and over for spelling and capitalization and spacing for this in the platform.ini tab and from what I can tell it look like it's right.
I hate to bother you with this but I don't know who else to ask.
The config files need to be placed in the marlin folder. There is a plugin for vscode called marlin., Try installing it and do an update..
@@DiyProJames Thank you very much for your quick reply. I will try this and hope it works.

Hey, I love your tutorial. I’ve followed it step by step and when I go to hit the check mark in platformio, it doesn’t Save the firmware like it does for you … I’ve tried multiple times and multiple different upload ports
You cannot upload using the port with the new board. You have to plug the micro sd into the printer. Yes, it's a hassle.
You're welcome. Good to hear it's working. 😃
Ya you have to be a scientist to do the marlin download. Do this do that then this then go there. There must be an easier way
Great video installed your bin but won’t home proper or print just wondering if I missed something
you need to do a z offset. That's actually the final step.. I have a video coming out tomorrow that's going to show you how to do a z offset.
please watch this video and see if it helps. czcams.com/video/3J9NhwbziEY/video.html
James,
I am a total noobie and am feeling discouraged at the moment. I am hoping you can point me in the direction or guide me in solving this issue. I have upgraded to the 32 bit 4.27 motherboard on my ender 3. I've somehow managed to erase the marlin bugfix firmware that came with the board. I've tried following directions to reflash the firmware through the SD card and I am stuck after installing platformio. When I open it, an error timed out connection message pops up. I have installed a bltouch as well but I'm not sure what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 🙏
You might want to try using the one of the configs in my description. After installing the config you would still have to make some adjustments to the offsets.
Hey I have an ender 3 pro at 8-bit Ford upgraded to 4.2.74 at Marlin 1.0.1 firmware and having issues with auto home seems to not find correct coordinate for auto home so therefore when I do bed leveling everything is incorrect after bed leveling code has been used
If you upgraded to a 4.2.7 board you should upgrade the firmware to the 2.0
Hello, when I compiled my firmware and added it to my printer I lost the ability to move my XYZ axis by hand, which setting do I need to change in my custom firmware to be able to move my axis?
It's normal for the steppers to engage when printer is powered on. You can disable the steppers with a m18 or m84 command. I also think there is a disable stepper function in the menu.
I got the 4.2.7 board for my Ender 3 Pro today and have been struggling all night trying to get a proper version of the firmware that can save to EEPROM and is able to use M0 codes for filament swaps and such. I am stumped on where to go from here so any help would be greatly appreciated.

@@DiyProJamesThanks James. It turns out that the code was buggy. Downloaded new version today fixed it.

@@DiyProJames I looked. Mine says 1.1.5 . I was under the assumption this board is a 4.2.7. I thought the difference was the 4.2.7 has a plug on the board itself for a bed leveler. If not would you know which one I would load at the start for my board?
@@ollieb They are not the same. 1.1.5 is a 8 bit board. They just swapped the drivers. The 4.2.7 is a 32 bit board. Try using the old marlin version 1 configuration.
i cant do it the lines dont line up and ive lost all hope
The lines don't have to completely match up. First have you seen all the videos on this playlist.. czcams.com/play/PLKB2mjSs4KgN29yU2t4kGeNoVFJWeSt6H.html They are related and will help you get a better understanding of the firmware.
2nd Are you using the same hardware as mine?
3rd If your using the same hardware. Have you tried the firmware I've uploaded to github.. They should all be in the description...
For Ender 3 pro, do we need to download all the files on the link?
Please watch the playlist. It explains what the files are for...
Hi purchased 4.2.7 board and bl touch not working properly ,not letting me set z offset and direct sd download to fix issue
Try using this firmware github.com/diyprojames/3dPrinterConfigs/blob/Ender-3-4.2.7-Silent-Board/ender3%20silent4.2.7/diyprojames%20Ender3%20Silent%204.2.7.zip
Ok,would it matter if iam using an adapter pin for bl touch or sould i connect it directly to bl touch direct board
@@reyrisonrosales5101 I'm confused to as why your using an adapter.. Are you sure your working with a 4.2.7 board? You'd only need to use the pin 27 board on an old melzi or stock 1.1.4 board. I'm not sure we're talking of the same board.
@@DiyProJames yes I purchased 4.2.7 and bl touch v3 separate my bl touch came with adapter for 32 bit board my 4.2.7 dose have a bl port as well,is the file you sent me a bin file?
@@reyrisonrosales5101 There should be both. Test with the bin file to see if it's work initially, then use the configuration.h to set your bed and offset values. Recompile and upload. I set the margins and offsets with the direct drive so your head might not be set correctly. Remove the z endstop and plug the 2 connector there. Do not use the pin 27 board.
You Can't see Anything, It's Useless
The alien icon wont show up so I am stuck. Any idea?
It's because you haven't installed the plugin. Press Ctrl+shift+X and type PlatformIO in the searh bar
I’ll give this a try. I managed to fix it by u selecting and option in settings. I am now getting an error code that says The build command doesn’t exist!?
@@DiyProJames i have platform IO installed. I keep getting the error "command 'platformio-ide.build' not found" any help"?
What is the difference between the Marlin bugfix files and the regular files?
Marlin bugfix is the "nightly or most current version" Then there is the latest release or "official version" The difference is "bugfix version is untested released to public for testing"
@@DiyProJames Thanks for the answer. I installed a Creality 4.2.7 board into my Ender 3 Pro along with a V3.1 BLTouch, followed your steps in Visual Code studio, installed that firmware and the printer won't autohome. Not sure what is going on and don't a lot about programming.
@@xwarp have you tried using the firmware I've compiled? Look for the bin file and use that one see if it works. If it does then you can compare with your config file. If it doesn't then there may be other issues.
@@DiyProJames I have that loaded now and the screen has the X,Y,Z values flashing and the bottom of the screen showing "Home Z first".
I have no idea what this means, and I appreciate your responses. I just don't know enough about programming to understand this easier.
@@xwarp There is an autohome feature in the menu look for it. Z value is the bltouch offset you have to input in the bltouch section. That is the height difference between the nozzle and bltouch probe when deployed.
Hello, I did everything as you said, I have an error
Could be anything. No way to know what the problem is.
YOU FORGOT SOOOOOOOO MUCH IMPORTANT STUFF
Why make it so complicated
The task itself is complicated.
