- It's Hmong New Year 2024 here in Laos and we're celebrating with our Hmong friend the traditional way who invited us to his Hmong village in Meuang Feuang Laos to experience this exciting time of year for the Hmong tribal people. Hmong new year is held after the harvest season ends and is a way for villages to come together, take part in courting ceremonies and games and find a love match as well as coming together to celebrate in their beautiful handmade and traditional outfits and eat authentic and unique Hmong food with their families, friends and communities. We visit a Hmong new year market celebration, play some traditional games and cook and eat traditional Hmong food in their home.

Very cool video! I was in Laos late November/early December of last year and was able to briefly visit the Hmong village of Ban Aya (on Road #1B, south of Bountai in Phongsali province), but only as a walk-through with a brief sit-down with the village chief (my guide was also Hmong) and no chance to try any Hmong cuisine (of which I have sampled some in central California, USA). I am very intrigued with the ethnic minority cultures of SE Asia, and as I thoroughly enjoyed my 13 days in Laos, I will definitely check out your other videos. Kop chai der!

The purple sticky rice ur eating is mochi. It’s purple rice steamed and then pounded. It’s not colored. It comes in purple color. So happy to see westerns embrace and eat like the locals. Im Hmong myself and I love traditional Hmong foods. Is Ked a tour guide? I would love his contact. Planning on going back to Laos.

Our New Year is on Easter weekend (Friday, Saturday,and Sunday).
A lot of people whites blacks Latinos .
Lao hospitality...beers and food are free
Everybody that came here said they will always come back.
I know this Caucasian couple pretty close.
They in their early 50s.
They always come every year .
They are from Chicago Illinois.
Oh yeah forgot to explain the food and alcohol .
Unlimited boiled crawfish...
Liquor...
We got everything .even beer lao..

It's hard to find Hmong Christians in Laos. Most are still Shamanism
Ked's wife family is Christian, his side is still Shamanism I believe. We didn't know some Hmong were Christian so that was interesting!

The Hmong New Year of Ball Tossing happen only once in a year. The more you catch the balls mean you're welcome New Year, the less you can't catch the ball mean you leaving old year away or behind.

Purple rice cake with honey syrup is available during the Hmong New Year. Eating this cake is similar the Israelites eating unleavened bread during Passover.

No we just visit on a tourist visa, maybe look into work or business visas if you want to stay here longer
