"Yeah, but like 8 feet away cause i'mma yell this whole fuckin' thing."
😂
The passion in this guy is so striking, I was legit waiting for the guitar to start smoking lol
His guitar was smoking, and, the embers have sparked flames and fires all over this country now.
Or his head! Fucking amazing song!
Dude I almost choked up. Yiu can just tell .
@@adamlussier9670 definitely
This should be americas theme song RN
It's not just an American thing. If you can't see that this is a world wide chess board and a worldwide issue then you really need to wipe your eyes and look at what's going on. Greed and money run everything everywhere. All of last year, there were mass riots around the world in revolt of governments. Cmon man. It's easy to see.
This has been going on for centuries. Jesus Christ preached the same thing and he was murdered by the state.
Hello from two years in the future! Shit's only gotten worse.
More so now 2y later
@@forthethrill26 it's humanity's theme song
Holy shit this dude rips, can't believe I haven't heard him before this!
[Verse 1]
If it starts with an explosion
Do you end it with a bang?
First the whistles start a-blowin'
Then the guilty finally hang
There's a storm on the horizon
And the waters on the rise
We're watching history repeatin'
With the changin' times
The figureheads keep talking
But they're buried in the sand
Everyone is pointing fingers
Everybody plays their hand
The fix is in, the game is rigged
The pawns are polarized
You can either pick a side
Or think outside the picket lines
I wonder, is this a revolution
Or just mass confusion
When every voice is trying to scream
The loudest for equality?
While we argue strategy
Culture and philosophy
People die in city streets
All paved with blood and poverty
The powers with a chosen few
Desperation's just a tool
Agents of corruption use
To keep the jails and prisons full
Diamond pockets lined with profits
Earned from broken lives
Misled to pledge by one discrimination under God
[Chorus]
Stop the world, I wanna get off
Everything's on fire and it's falling apart
So if we can't turn back
Can we change the course
When the fury of the frayed wind blows
[Verse 2]
The preachers sell salvation
To the faithful on their knees
Some prey upon our need and want
For something to believe
And some have spun the doctrines
Holy guide toward paradise
To justify injustices and centuries of genocide
Surrender to your temples
To your altars or your shrines
The weapons used by shepherds
So the sheep will keep in line
Conflicting congregations
Thinking only of themselves
If that's the path to heaven
Hate to see the road to hell
I tell ya' they take a vision
Make religion, cause division
Keep you vacant and complacent
And dependent on a system
By creating ways to separate
Utilizing class and race
Prejudice perpetuates
And keeps monopolies in place
Trickle up or trickle down
Stack or spread the wealth around
Someone's hope is runnin' out
While fortune feeds a bank account
Empty-promise politicians
Pander to the poor
While there's money used for funding
Phony wars on foreign shores
[Chorus]
Stop the world, I wanna get off
Cause they're loading up the bullets
And they're dropping the bombs
The propaganda beats to the narrative drums
When the fury of the frayed wind blows
[Verse 3]
The criminals in Congress
They ain't got no ground to stand
They're building walls and borders
Up around the stolen land
A legacy of liberty
That's how the story goes
But conquerers rewrote the past
To suit the status quo
So is it institutions
Or the state of human kind
That leads to some exalted
Over thousands left behind?
They'll push you to your limit
But in turn, they'll push their luck
Cause sleeping giants riot
When they've finally woken up
Because they're buying your silence with those shiny advertisements
They lie and cheat and steal
And tax your habits so you'll finance
What they hide away behind the scenes
Cover over underneath
Exploitation population
Victimized by vanity
Faces in a magazine
Pictures on a pixel screen
Set a lofty standard
That disintegrates your self esteem
Race to chase a plastic dream
Red carpets and Limousines
Blinded and distracted by
The flashbulbs of celebrity
But just beyond the limelight
After fame has run its course
They'll throw you to the lions
While a sold-out crowd will roar
[Chorus]
Stop the world, I wanna get off
Cause there's bodies lying
Breathless, bleeding, piling up
They shook the bottled Rage
Now it's bound to erupt
When the fury of the frayed wind blows
[Verse 4]
You can think yourself in circles
But the answer's never clear
Is there safety with surveillance?
Is there freedom without fear?
Unravel and untangle
All you thought you understood
And question everything
Until you question why you should
We'll change the world with flowers
Or we'll change the world with guns
We'll plant a seed or dig a grave
Before it's said and done
But if we come together
All for one and one for all
Resistance rises up
Sure as an empire will fall
So I'll just work toward the future
May it crumble for the better
Where tyrannical oppressors
Are just shadows we remember
No judgment based on color
Or your lover or your gender
Dismantle older models
So they can't be reassembled
But the day the tables turn your way
Watch out for a twist of fate
Careful not to stumble and become
The very thing you hate
Search for something comforting
Seek out something innocent
But you'll never have those eyes
That look at life that way again
So you can take the high road
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
But you fight fire with fire
When you're going down in flames
[Chorus]
Stop the world, I wanna get off
Cause we're at each other's throats
And now it's choking my heart
And we can burn the earth
Or extinguish the torch
When the fury of the frayed wind blows
Do you wanna be like our official captioner? I always mean to do this, but usually forget :)
A Fistful Of Vinyl Haha I just do it cause I like singing along
Couple of mistakes but thanks
This folk singer might be the best rapper in the world. Jesus christ.
@@brendanswords4659 fuck that we need more punk shit
Never has a song quite nailed my world view like this. I had to walk away twice before I finally finished it. Chills and goosebumps. This Cats a fucken killer.
this song changed me
Matt Pless is a national treasure
“Push towards a future may it crumble for the better, where tyrannical oppressors are but, shadows we remember. No judgement based on color or your lover or your gender dismantle older models so they can be reassembled.” Cant get enough of this song!❤️🔥
I can feel it in my chest.
Epic, David Rovics and every great folk musician and punk activist can appreciate this masterwork.
dude sounds EXACTLY like the recording both in his playing and voice its wild
OMG Matt is still alive!? I met this dude at a little folk punk show in like 2013! This guy is the shit!

Made the mistake awhile ago of not watching the opening act at a show.
Came in late and this guy was on the floor playing this song, pouring his heart out, completely caught up in his music. The way he spits out all those lyrics and plays with such passion without the slightest stutter is really touching. Gonna go check his stuff out now :)
This song is so poetic, and played with so much passion. Really like this one.
I'm here because Matt just released the full band version on bandcamp but this one is my FAVE
We need more musicians with this kind of passion. Ones who actually give a fuck
If that's the road to heaven I hate to see the road to hell... Brilliant
That was/is prophetic , deftly written, and emotionally sung.
I somehow only just found about folk-punk today, and heard this song on a random playlist. Full body goosebumps with every word. He just put into 6 minutes what I've been trying to articulate for years. wow. just wow.
“Sleeping giants riot when they’ve finally woken up” “We’ll change the world with flowers or we’ll change the world with guns” “resistance rises up sure as an empire will fall” Chills, every single time.
makes me want to stand up to the glass walls that im consistently creating.
@@chriptselstrood2229 Stand up. Take what is yours.
those are the hardest hitting parts of the song and I love it, Matt really channeled fucking every thing fucked in this world on this one gatta give it too the lyrics are amazing and the guitar is epic.
@@rodgerwoodsthat isn’t true at all.
Posted 3 years ago and maybe more relevant now than ever. I'm sitting here with goosebumps.
The wobbly gospel! 🙏🏻✊🏼✊🏻✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿🏴❤️
This is what raw talent looks and sounds like.
well said and on point
Sounds like shit loads of practice to me. Musicians aren't born good, they spend the time to get good
I’ll come back to this forever. It’s a masterpiece.
God what passion, wish I had found Matt sooner!
Love this Guy!!!! He reminds me of a young Bob Dylan!!
It grows closer to center after the experiences we faced yesterday and the day before. Sad to think of all it took to get where it was when this song came out, and how far it's gone since, but it's one of my favorite songs ever.
This song is about today
Yeah and I still agree with most of the song, just not the communist undertones. All for monopolies falling but I realized those in power now will be in power then, and at least, even if it’s small, there’s a chance for people to move up or around in the system. It needs work and a healthy reset every decade at least. But absolute power never ends well for those at the back of the line
Matt Pless is EPIC!
so much pure raw passion, i love watching every single performance from Matt hes truly one in a million
Belinda Wood more like one in seven billion.
What I like about this song is that there's a lot of information flying, like all over the place. I love. Good job.
I wanted to get the entire lyrics to this song tattooed cause there's too many good lines to just pick one to quote
you guys should try to get Local News Legend on!
song writing genius
Wowwww this song is amazing. Matt Pless forever, glad to see some overtly political punk, Matt speaks truth to power!
Very nice testament to what’s up with our world, delivered with passion and intensity.
matt pless played in my city a few months ago and i couldnt go bc i wasn't 18 but i accidentally took the wrong street and ended up walking past the venue on my way home from work and heard him playing from the outside and it was really good
MaybeMisha gross.;)
I want to cover your song. not because i'm good or your bad.. but because you found beauty... more than that you found a vein in the beast we must all slay if we hope to live.
brandon lonien that's beautiful, and so poetically put. Please share your cover with me when you create it.
That was the dopest thing I've ever read. Thanks homie
An incredible song man... I love all your stuff it’s just like a new punk, it’s the punk but with a completely different sound. I love it!
Anyone know the chords?
Gayyyy
This is what a true musician looks like goddamn
I don’t know if Matt is still doing music… but i’ve sharing this for years….
Best song of our time!
The revolution doesn't ask permission,
Guys, I think Scary Bob Dylan has a point
Absolutely! Wtf I was thinking 🤔 holy fuk!
I’m super late to the party, my friend played this song for me while we were trippin over the summer and I could feel it in my chest. It made me cry. This is what I want playing when our titanic sinks.
Haha good
Zzz
This is fucking great. Halfway between Ryan Harvey and Erik Peterson. I can dig this so hard im reaching china
I think of him more as a mix of Pat the Bunny and Hank III
yeah i was going to say the guitar is very Pat
Ptb + Bob Dylan
Matt Pless is a fucking beast. One of my top favorite artists
Dude what a great singer and incredible songwriter!
Raw. Fucking. Emotion.
I can't click thumbs up enough
Absolutely!
Awesome song! This guy has so much potential.
wow just wow
Happy anniversary to a crazy performance!
Glad I clicked on this!!!
this song is real AF
god damn this song is actually so good
Amazing stuff. The lyrics are off the chain.
This is why I subscribe to fist full of vinyl they introduce me to great music, thank you!
this song touches me where "serpentine" by Ani Difranco, does. it's taken me a long long while to find anything even close....
that bleww my fucking mind
Always a pleasure to see Matt perform.
I love what you guys do. I always click on that notification!
what a truly great song. well done matt
I was holding my breath by the end and I didn’t realize
This song and Nero are kinda like timelessly always relevant and prophetic, coupled with Matt's passionate performance it kinda seems hopeless and inspirational at the same time. How they call it like ces la vis something
Wow. I fucking love it. He’s amazing!
My sister was like "what was that woke song you were singing earlier?" and I was like "Oh yeah that folk punk song was Matt Pless, he's great you should check him out." She was like "I've never heard of woke punk." lol. Folk punk, I said, but yes, I guess you can call it woke punk.
And thus Matt Pless gained another fan. These songs are cathartic in this crazy time.
**While we argue strategy, culture and philosophy, people die in city streets all paved with blood and poverty**
the intensity of the message builds from here 02:59.
I disagree
It's angering that this was sung five years ago and hasn't gotten remotely less relevant. But we can say that about many warnings over many decades. You take a lot of frustrations and express them clearly yet with humility. It's not just rage, it's grieving, too.
This song has been relevant for hundreds of years. Thank capitalism and the ruling class for all of this. This state of affairs is nothing new. It's extremely angering that the more things change, the more they stay the same, or just get worse. Welcome to American imperialism
He knew what was comin
Nothing real has happened yet. The masses have been successfully tranquilized for the time being by political theater. When it happens it will be people who previously opposed each other once corporate controlled world government is realized.
Sick 🖤✊🏽
I've been a long time fan both Matt and FoV. I think we may have a contemporary for Dillion
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Holy shit why have I not heard this song before

Top Of The TREE Brother..
Gods Bless ya Matt X
Well said my friend, well said.
Matt you fucking rock. This song pretty much sums it all up.
Damn.
So good!
There's a lot of us making change, one way or the other. I prefer to dig for trees, but ill be dogging regardless. Cascadia now is the tip of an anarchist precipice.
Homie just shared y'all and not like it matters but I dig. Not much of a folk punk person but you're different. Raw as fuck good job . You also played at my dudes house in Seattle and he likes you too. You're bad ass . And all that jazz
One of the greatest fucking songs ever!
Good singer
The fact that this was two years ago. He’s either psychic or a time traveler lmao
Everything that's happening today is similar to or basically the same as things that have been happening for the last couple centuries. We have yet to actually fix the root cause of these problems. That's why they keep rearing their ugly head.
We may have progressed in treating some of the symptoms, but we have yet to successfully implement a cure for the disease of capitalism, patriarchy, imperialism, inequality, and organised religion.
That's why songs like this, that aren't all that different from folk songs from decades ago, feel timeless. Change a few lines and this song could have been written in 1920.
artist usually know where the world is going before anyone else
Rad!
This is legit.
Wtf... awesome
Best to listen..said
OMFG! YES! Just yes! Absofuckinglutely!!!! ❤
