  • Today we'll have some fun comparing the Klon and the KTR. Not really a pedal demo per se, just a hang messing with the pedals and answering questions. Keith William's and I made a video over at Five Watt World on the Klon. Check it out here. • The Klon: A Short Hist...

    Hi, I got the Klon KTR, play in front the Seymour Duncan Vise Grip Compressor into my BluGuitar Amp1 - I get a super "pulling" sound like with a very old Marshall Amp, i.e. my guitar sound "stands" for minutes if I want. This is what I like, an indefinitely sustained sound! Only very few amps can do that, the Amp1 alone also not, however with these two pedals it works!

    I recently bought a Ceriatone Centura (gold with horsie) and it's really a great Klone. They use the same case and it looks like a dead ringer, but it's really does the Klon thing well for around $250 new. Worth checking out if you're looking for something really close.

    The Klon KTR is exactly the same circuit etc. as the awfully expensive original Klon Centaur. Off course it is the "Magic" in old pedals etc. which can only be explained by "ghots"....

    You played the Horsie a LOT LONGER. And I think they could be dialed together with a slight (1 or 2) on the tone knobs. I had a Horsie and sold it. But I bought it for big money and got even more for it. I wasn't sold at that cost.

    • @ClaudioMartella
      @ClaudioMartella Před 2 lety

      it's all in your head. could be a slight different in settings, those things have tolerances so even if the knobs look the same it does not mean they are filtering the same way. listen to it again WITH CLOSED EYES, and you'll see that you can't tell the difference.

  • @joebowers3060
    @joebowers3060 Před 3 lety

    Sorry for coming late to the party. To my ears, the centaur has an “openness” that the KTR does not have. It’s much less apparent in your video because you take the time to really match them as best as you can. Maybe your set happens to be better matched than others? But with that being said, it was shown in a different video that the JHS Klone was actually better matched to the centaur than the KTR. It could be how the player set the pedals. But this is not the first time that the KTR showed a very slight difference in the “openness” of the tone.
    Thoughts?

    Jeff, a clean amp would have actually been realistic for a difference comparison video..
    Your amp is already punching a hole in the Ionosphere, leaving no room for the drive section of the pedals to shine on their own.
    Other than that, your tone is envious in my thinking.

    • @JeffMcErlain
      @JeffMcErlain  Před 4 měsíci

      I see your point but and appreciate the input! I like most people I know don’t like the drive of a Klon on its own, and not what the pedal was intended for when Bill made it. He intended it for an already driven amp. The drive on its own is very nasal which works great into some drive. I appreciate you being here!!

    Like but i can't tell wtf between the pedals what with all the talking, so fail as a demo, well meant though, but fail as a demo. 99% of demos fail as the presenter thinks we want to listen to them talk, they dont get to the point, a 5 minute presentation somehow gets to be a slog just to get to the point, Jeff is an amazing player but man, just get to it. : )

    • @JeffMcErlain
      @JeffMcErlain  Před 3 lety +4

      Thanks for the comment, as a sole pedal demo I would agree that there is too much talking. This is one of my weekly live feeds where I teach, talk gear, etc. You can see the live feed comments people come for the hang and community. This video isn’t meant to be a pedal demo! Lol. When I watch those I want them to get to it too. I did a video with @fivewattworld on the history of the Klon And received a number of requests comparing the two pedals. So that what this was. A community gtr nerd hang about a video answering questions and messing with the pedals. If I were to do a proper pedal demo of these two, I’d get right to it. Thanks for checking it out and the constructive feedback. I hope you join the hang. Best, Jeff
