The original Final Fantasy follows four heroes who are trying to restore the four orbs which have been contaminated and ultimately defeat Chaos.
Unfortunately only one of the warriors is actually a hero; the rest are sissies who die early on during the quests. Strange as this may sound, much time is saved by doing so since fewer commands need to be entered every time the player runs from a random encounter.
On TASVideos, perfect runs are continually improved, often through very unexpected changes. This run by TheAxeMan ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/T... ) improves the old TAS ( tasvideos.org/1714M ) by 00:09.10 seconds by getting lower stats and spending more time at inns and item shops.
For those who think they have a better sense of humor than the author, he has provided Python scripts which allow you to recreate the entire run with your own choices for character names substituted for his. Available as a Windows standalone program ( runeaxetas.googlecode.com/file... ) or as source ( runeaxetas.googlecode.com/file... ).

I’ve been using the original upload of this TAS to help me sleep for years now. It’s such a good sleep aide, and it’s also super interesting when awake (thanks to the captions). One of my favorite TAS’s.
For real, this TAS is amazing but it's also great for sleeping, idk why

I've played FF through more times than I can recall and distilled the game down to a cold, clinical exercise, but watching it done in a single hour is amazing. The knowledgeable commentary really shows reverence for this masterpiece. Well played.

This game makes me nostalgic of using the map cheat and seeing all the cool places to explore. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get the airship, but I did break the dam or whatever that was keeping you on the main continent.
How is Axe portaging that canoe and three dead bodies during all the overland walking?

Dang, so beating Garland as a first victory battle is way too easy than I though. (I thought you need to little bit of grind more to beat Garland since he’s the first boss in Final Fantasy I)

Pretty much directing the game frame by frame to achieve a perfect speedun, meant as a demonstration.
I'm not a speedrunner myself so I probably said something wrong but afaik that's what TAS is
