  • Please check your local oyster harvesting regulations!
    Well I'm considering this video a Holiday present and a thank you for all of you who have been sticking with me, watching my videos and supporting me so much as I'm working to grow the channel (no matter how many googan mistakes I make)! Thank you all so much I appreciate you all and I hope you have a great Holiday season whatever you celebrate!
    A few weeks back I was at the tackle shop looking for fiddler crabs but they were sold out as they often are this time of year. I started talking to this guy who works at the store and he told me about this spawn netting stuff and how he likes to use it with clams. So I bought some spawn net pre-cut squares, some magic thread and my oyster shucking knife and headed out to the creek. I decided I would rather use fresh shucked oysters as my bait than clams as I know that sheepshead love to eat them and they're plentiful around here, and man did it pay off. I don't think I'll be buying fiddler crabs again anytime soon!
    Not only does this allow me to sheepshead fish whenever I want (and not just when the tackle shop has fiddlers in), but it also is saving me a ton of money. One 50 count bag of mesh bags lasted me 4+ sheepshead trips and with the magic thread only cost me $10. That's a steal!
    Anyway I hope this video was nearly as helpful for you as it was for me, I'm really excited about discovering this new bait option and I've since caught plenty of big fish and have more sheepshead videos to come with this bait so stay tuned. Thank you so much for watching and have a great day!

    • @MakeTimeForFishing
      @MakeTimeForFishing  Před 3 lety +2

      Good question, you don't typically do that with circle hooks but those hooks are a little different design than a standard circle hook and I feel that I can set the hook with them and not yank it out of their mouths. Also sheepshead have really tough mouths so I feel like I lose less fish when I really drive the hook in!

    New sub, how do you hold to the structure in current?

    • @MakeTimeForFishing
      @MakeTimeForFishing  Před 3 lety +1

      I usually set up up current from the dock or piling and wedge myself against it. It's helpful to have gloves on so you don't cut your hands on barnacles or anything. But my paddle also has a hook built into the blades so I can pull myself to structure if I start floating away. Thanks for the support!

    Florida... Oysters have closed seasons, bag limits, size limits and can only be legally harvested in specific shellfish harvesting areas that are classified as "approved" or "conditionally approved" and in the "open" status. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Division of Aquaculture manages these shellfish harvesting areas.
