I was going to ask "didn't we do this episode before?" Then I realized it was like almost 10 years ago so those teens are now adults and these are new teens.
Man, time happens fast AF.
Flannel girl was born 30 years too late, she'd have LOVED the early 90's.
That's no ordinary girl, that's my future ExWife
@@wookamust.maximus3195I hope you're not an OG Nirvana fan, aka 40+ years old.
If she was my daughter, I'd be so incredibly proud of her!
@@mizzlepizzle9769she is like 19..........
She has albums on vinyl!
That's great because I have not!
(I don't do represses)
I like her :)
As a teen, I can confirm, yes. I do know Nirvana songs.
I know dude nirvana was one of the best bands out there especially for its era and music genre!
I mean... even if someone doesn't like them, they have to live under a rock to not know them, tbh...
@@IsaacTuduriLlabresfr
Same here
Yes I can also confirm as I was a teen back in 2013 to 2017
As an older guy it always warms my black heart to see younger kids rocking out to Nirvana. Flannel girl rules.
Flannel girl parents educate her correctly
She misses several lyrics while singing. 😂
@@baxtronx5972 I honestly think it’s better that way. Shows that she cares more about being in the moment with the music, than being accurate
@@baxtronx5972it's Nirvana. I was in my formative years when they came out and I don't know most of their lyrics. The entire grunge era is known for mumbled and hard to understand singing.
she got that goth growl voice even 🤘
She even knows how to do low screams 1:58 🤘🏻
The blonde girl screaming COME was overlooked. She knew what she was doing 😭😭
Hi, I'm Chris Hansen, you may remember me from such shows as ......... 😂😅😬
That flanel girl vibes are just great here, shes just having a fun time
Flannel girl would had been my highschool grunge crush. 😂 Great to see teens today also appreciate Nirvana.
When Ryker said" it still hurt" referring to Kurt's death, I said out loud "you weren't even born yet!". I remember being in 7th grade, and during morning announcements they announced his death and my entire class was crying. It really shows the effect he and the music has on people even today. Dave Grohl is honestly one of the most talented musicians of my generation.
Exactly what I said
They didn't tell us, they thought it would create issues if they announced it at school. We all found out as we were being dismissed, a few others had already found out and the news spread like wild fire.
@@lindseycarter579 We had this educational news show called Channel One that we watched every day. I remember Lisa Ling was one of the anchors/reporters and she was the one who did the segment announcing his death. My teacher, Mr.Sarrator-one of the best I ever had, actually threw out the lesson plan for the day and we basically had a group therapy session all day. We discussed grief, mental health, addiction, suicide and prevention. The next day he even made flyers with help numbers and everything for us and to post around school. He really cared about his students and was an amazing man! We may not have learned our class work that day, but he saw it as an opportunity to teach us something more important. I'll never forget that.
just because he wasnt born yet doesnt mean it doesn't hurt. imagine if he said "ya f that depressed guy", at least he knew and remember Kurt even when he wasnt around
I remember hearing the news on the car radio just as my dad pulled up to the gas station and I made him wait to turn the car off so I could hear what they were saying. I remember feeling it in my stomach, then I cried 😢.
"This is my favorite album I have on vinyl." There is hope for the future.
the other 99.9% .....
I like that t-shirt brand
Bless that girl in the flannel! I feel like she’s the only one in the group that really “gets it” when it comes to Nirvana’s music.
I just love that Viv is obsessed by Nirvana! It's so cool to see people who aren't from the generation where the group was known, who knows and like them!
Sofia knowing most of them was great too, it also shows that you don't have to be a fan to know their music!
I love hendrix, the doors, the beatles, Clapton and obsessed with bob dylan. I'm 33 though , still .... wrong era 😭
Kurt wasn't rich.
He grew up a working class kid in a working class town.
He became rich after "Nevermind" .
so he was rich then
She asked if the guy in the video was rich not if he was brought up in a rich neighborhood
7:10
"Do any girls have crushes on him?"
Nah. Only an entire generation.
Oh, and most of the guys, too.
I'm surprised "Something in the Way" wasn't played in this video, considering it's seen a resurgence as of late, due to The Batman using it throughout the film. It's also one of Nirvana's best songs.
I agree, that song is my favorite by Nirvana and I know every single one cause my mom listens to all of them.
A fact that lives rent free in my head is that when his first album (Bleach) was released he was actually homeless until he got paid for it.
As a GenXer who went to high school in the early '90s, this video gives me hope for the young generation. Whatever may be true, at the very least they know good music.
word
Me too. My daughter loves this band.
Watching this warms this Genxers heart. I was a teenager when this legend passed, I remember that day like it was yesterday. RIP Kurt, you are missed💔🥺
GenXer here, too. I felt the exact same way you did. I remember where I was and how I felt like it was yesterday .
I'm glad to see new generations know of Kurt's music.
As a Gen X first generation Nirvana fan, loved watching their enthusiastic reactions!
brought me back for sure
I was at Kurt's memorial. So glad to see teens still love him.
Nirvana is like Tupac, every generation is gonna love them.
Grunge version of Tupac, and they are one of the artists in the ‘90s. Still, one of my favorite artists that I subscribe too, mainly for rock, metal, hip-hop, and R&B.
My favorite artists and bands (respectfully):
Rock/metal: Linkin Park, Metallica, Nirvana, and Guns N’ Roses
Hip-Hop/R&B: Eminem, Rihanna, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and N.W.A
The girl in the flannel could easily be another Kurt's daughter
Hahaha it would great. But I think he was loyal tô Courtney.
Ehh… once you see Frances though it’s like “holy shit, THAT is Kurt’s daughter! Holy shit. Then you hear her speak and it’s mind blowing. I’m glad the girl and the other kids in this video have great taste, but there’s only one Frances Bean Cobain, just like there’s only one Kurt.
I was on of the lucky people that got to see Nirvana live in concert and they were so good! One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to still to this day!
I am from the Gen X era. Recently, I came across six kids, and their reactions to Nirvana made me smile. I remember being a freshman in 1991 when I first heard them. I was blown away by their music. I still have their CDs from that time, and I listen to them occasionally.
which kids? the ones in the video or?
Show them some unpopular songs then. Every single soul knows teen spirit
And that makes it bad? Stop your hipster hate. Nobody liked hipsters on 2015 and nobody likes them now.
@@brandonleon4068 bro, he’s just saying that if everyone knows Teen Spirit they mine as well introduce the kids to the lesser known songs if they are gonna show them any songs at all
That boy with dreads looked so confused and out of place in this video lol.
But the poetry at the end was a masterpiece.
I'm a 60 year old Nirvana fan who is very happy the younger generation appreciates the music I was listening to decades ago (especially Vivienne with her vinyl collection) 🤘
have u ever visit any concert pap.
That pause and look during Where did you sleep last night still gives me shivers
that girl who said she has every record is litteraly perfect
I'm so happy that teens still know/listen to good music like Nirvana.
Wish they'd done a track that showed Kurt really could sing a song without yelling at all: Dumb (one of my favorites), Something in the Way, the Man Who Sold the World cover
have them try Soundgarden!!!
Also Stone Temple Pilots
Flannel girl has excellent tastes. Im 52 , I would've shared all my 90s jams if this was my kid. She definitely makes her mom proud, i bet ! 😊
I was a year old when Kurt left this world. Listening to his music was just that spark that makes you feel young again.
Story of Weird Al, he asked Kurt if he could use that song to make a parody. Kurt originally thought it would be about food (Al Yankovic had used food themed lyrics at the time of his parodies) but it was really how the words were hard to understand. Kurt had a laugh out of it & he considered it to be the best thing for the band when Al does a parody of your song.
1:58 THE BLONDE GIRL IS LITERALLY ME WHEN I LISTEN TO NIRVANA
Great to see teens know Nirvana these days, back in the mid 90s my girlfriend was so into them, she was a grunge barbie
As a teen in the 1990s, I can confirm that Nirvana defined our generation. I remember their music playing in the school halls, at dance parties, on the radio. When Kurt Cobain died, I had just turned 18, and his death was a big gut punch to me and everyone I knew. We all grew up fast after that. I can't believe this was 30 years ago. 😭
В какой стране всё это с тобой произошло браток??))
You guys should have shown them a clip of the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame induction of Nirvana where Joan Jett came out and filled in for Kurt. The reason they asked her was that she was an inspiration for the band and they became friends over time.
As someone that was around then. I am so so proud of these kids. Good music is good music. And it's still coming out today. Old heads, music doesn't suck today
Ofc teens know Nirvana, they're their main demographic XD
Butch Vig is also the drummer for Garbage
Do we had crushes on him? GURL🤣🤣🤣🤣 We still have 🥰🥰
You know you've made a huge impact on the world when the newer generations misses you even if they weren't alive yet for your death.
Omg as an almost 40 year old that lived during these amazing artists..I was SO GLAD you mentioned Weird Al ..because that's all I thought of when they were discussing songs lol
YAAAAS!
I feel old... Dayum😂
I feel old being a teen and knowing him 😂. Weird Al’s best parody is arguably Smells Like Nirvana (The Teen Spirit cover)
Most Nirvana fans are vibing up & getting higher and higher. My fandom way was different. I listened to the lyrics and found the deep emotions of the song. It helped me true the deepest & darkest time of a long burn out. And gave me courage to go up when I was rock bottom. Same with Korn-coming undone Jamel_AKA_Jamal
not only was kurt’s guitar sold for a crazy price, his sweater he wore in the 1993 mtv unplugged was sold for over $330,000 and hasn’t been washed since he last wore it
I saw them live in Madrid, 1993. I'm glad their music still resonates with younger generations.
I always felt when, "You know you're right' was finally released, you could hear Kurt faintly whisper in the background, "The End". Like this was it. The story is over. Etc. Fast forward some 20 years later, and kids are still into Nirvana like I was when I was their age. The band is timeless and their music still resonates. That is very very telling.
I have my 10 y.o. girl discovering Nirvana. My wife and I went to H.S. together. C/O 98. We were so into the grunge music scene. Im going to take my daughter to a Nirvana cover band. She's gonna dig the hell out of it.
the kid sitting next to the short haired girl does not wanna be there 💀
Back in 1991, I worked in radio statistics. Don't think they do that these days. But in California after Smells like teen spirit was released, it was played at any one time on a radio station in California for two years. In the 20 years I had done that job, no song had done that.
April 5th will be 30 years since Kurt has been gone. They need to reopen the investigation to see if it was murder.
It wasnt
I clicked on this video so fast cause every child has a Nirvana shirt and i can guarantee 90% of them have no idea what it is 😂
This was done because it's the 30th Anniversary of Kurt's death.
It's in April
Later turning April this year.
Lmao. Im 47. Imagine being a teen when alllll of this came out. Lol. Hearing it as released for the first time. Damn I had an awesome teenagehood. Lol
Next up do Alice In Chains. Teens need to know Layne Staley.
Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Queen (last)
Yess, you guys got good taste!
yess Alice In Chains is so good
yeaahh AIC, don't forget the Puddle of Mudd too
I’ll be 40 next month and I was in 5th grade when I got introduced to Alice in Chains
Dude I remember the days I watched teens react to nirvana from my generation! I feel old now 😂
Dude, I remember KURT. IN CONCERT. F'N LIVE! I was at LIVE! How old do you think I feel????????
As a teenager, I freaking love Nirvana and I listen to all their songs, demos, and live performances. I even have a Kurt magazine from 1994.
I was a teen when Nirvana hit and I was a senior in high school in 1994. This was everything.
As a teenager, I do love Nirvana, among other bands others like greens day or Foo fighters just as an example
In Bloom is probably my favorite Nirvana song. I wonder if Weezer was inspired by that because Nirvana’s look in In Bloom is very similar to Weezer’s in Buddy Holly.
I think that was just of that time of old 50's music shows and the song was called Buddy Holly who was a huge rock n roll star
There's something about Nirvana that really speaks to teenage angst. Timeless music.
Everyone saying "Flannel Girl"....yes, she deserves the love...but, um, we should be careful.....lol
LOVED THIS 😊 Do Alice in Chains next
Rest in peace Kurt Cobain, you would’ve loved Wii Sports
Wrong
Wii sports?
@@bloodysabbath1984 you don’t know the critically acclaimed tech demo bundled with every Nintendo Wii game console? That Wii Sports?
@@dyldog of course I do but what does that have to do with Kurt Cobain? Haha
@@bloodysabbath1984 every. thing.
Thank you for showing Weird Al at the end! Nirvana said that they knew they were big once Al parodied their song. Maybe you guys can do a video covering his original songs and see how people react.
Man, I wish this many people liked Nirvana when I was growing up in the UK in the 90s. I would have had a lot more friends. LOL.
can you guys do one about Alice in Chains
Yessss! Love Layne.
YES
As an older guy that has crowd surfed many times in my life, i would highly recommend doing it Angela :) its a lot of fun!
“it still hurts” as if he was alive when Kurt passed
I get that. I feel sad about John Lennon even though it happened before I was born. It still is heart wrenching.
Grieving over people who passed even if you hadn't met them is completely normal dude.
especially if they were famous like Kurt was, people connect with celebrities.
These are the most normal teenagers.. 💀💀
I’m glad we didn’t get the overly sassy ones who are flippant about every single thing.
(The one with green in his hair and the small Asian boy)
Two things. First, it really speaks to the timelessness of Nirvana how these thirty year old songs can capture these kids so quickly. Second, its great to see so many younger people are open to older music. It warms this mid-40s metalhead's heart!
*The two boys have Millennial parents. The girls have Gen X parents.* The girls were exposed to music before their time whilst the boys look like this is their first time hearing this.
As a 12 year old I love Nirvana I just turned 12 today and I knew all of them🥳
As a Gen Z teen, I can only hope that Nirvana will still inspire generations of young people.. and that they know more than “Smells Like Teen Spirit”..
bleach. give that girl an applause
Ok, we still got the hope then...
Felt a bit sorry for the black lad who seemed mesmerised but had blondie screeching in his right ear. She seems like a good egg but let the boy enjoy the discovery.
"Do any girls have crushes on him?"Listen, as a 24 years young man: I think I may have had a crush for Cobain at some point without actually realizing it... the man looked handsome and he truely was a musical genius... but that red hair was aweful imo. Yet I religiously loved that man and still do, hell I even keep my hair some what inspired by this dude and I love Nirvana's music... His voice just fitted so well into the whole style of Nirvana, he just used it as his instrument and he always made his voice sound just as angry as his records needed it to sound... yet he also just was able to sing more quietly and less angry, maybe with a bit of insecurity within his voice (I won't say he tried to characterize the character in Where did you sleep ast night since only he will ever know, but I definitly think he would have done so when he felt like it)
7:06
I have a crush on him 😭😭
real
In weird Al's version, the caretaker was the same one from the original vid. He was really the school caretaker they filmed at.
I was about 17 lived up in Seattle area and got to listen to their first album before it got released to the public. I had a friend that knew them. I remember hearing them for the first time and blown away thinking these guys are gonna be huge
God, the flannel girl left me in love
If only she knew how to shut up and let the other guy say something.
@@learnsimplemelodies2492 She's on a web show, it's her job to talk. I'm sure if the other dude said anything worth including it would have made it into the video.
one dude face in this video is internally screaming "why did I even get invited for this video...😑😑😑😑😑😑" and you all know which one I'm talking about 😂
SOMEONE.....GET....HER....SOME DRUMS! 🤘🤘
Do teens know Nirvana, blonde girl in flannel should be presenting the episode 😂😂😂
"Did any girls have crushes on him?" Oooooh yes! I totally had a crush on him and I wasn't the only one. He had this nonchalant hotness about him. Plus he was a rebel. Teenage girls loooove rebels. lol
This is wild to watch cuz the original teens react to nirvana came out 10 years ago now and that's how I discovered nirvana. It became my favorite band ever and got me through most of high school
“Nirvana is cool” - Beavis and Butthead.
The girl in the flannel is the daughter I’ve always dreamed of. Good job, mom and dad.
She kind of looks like a younger version of Colbain's daughter.
Nirvana is one of my top 4 favorite bands, alongside with Linkin Park, Metallica, and Guns N’ Roses.
Best on life to you, Flannel Girl: you rock
Perfect time to do this react as it was Kurt's birthday a few days ago.
I'd love to see a Do Teens Know 90's Punk with Rancid, Distillers, Dropkick Murphys, Bouncing Souls, Bad Religion, and U.S. Bombs (or any of the other bands of the time).
Territorial Pissings should have been included
That Nirvana fan is worth a billion dollars
so there's pretty much always gonna be that "nirvana (kurt) girl" in schools, huh?
I am that girl at my school 🤘
It's so good seeing these kids hearing Nirvana now and having such an appreciation for the songs. It was hard to find peeps back then who were into grunge or metal and if, like me, you lived in rural Ireland you always felt on the outside. It was a revelation when I moved to Dublin and found people who knew and loved the same music and art and films as me. I found my husband there too and we are still the same grunge/metal/scifi nerds we were back then, still outsiders and still loving it
I'm 20 and this is my favorite band next to AIC
AIC are my favourite of the Seattle grunge scene.
@@Sasquatch10 me too, you can feel their music in your soul
I’m a teen and this video gave me teen spirit.
