I have seen Tommy in concert 4 times in the last two years, and met him in person when he signed my guitar. When you see him, you can expect to be thrilled, moved to tears, and have your spirits lifted. He will play for 2 hours non-stop, and you will be entertained by this wonderful and talented man.

It amazes me how some of you judge this guy's masterful playing. Just becasue he honors Jerry and Chet doesn't mean he has to play stylistically like them. For God's sake, the guy is playing like nobody's business AND having the time of his life having fun doing it. "Lacks the delicacy of Chet..." Have you heard all of Tommy's music? He is in complete command of every aspect of his playing. Go Tommy!

Right on Larry . Nothing comes out of Tommy's guitar That he doesn't want to come out of it . There are a lot of really fine players out there . And all of them are amazed when they hear Tommy play . Brent Mason , Richard Smith , Doyle Dykes , Chet , Eric Clampton , Les Paul ,Thom Bresh . I could go on and on .

Everyone fancies themselves as being discerning, the mistake they make is in being narrow about it, as if their perspective defines what is 'the best'...if you are a genuine lover of music, and appreciate skillful playing you don't indulge in this silly and childish 'who is the best' game!

Thanks for the refreshing comment. I've been playing since the early 70s and too worshiped at the alter of Chet Atkins (and all the favs of the day..Jerry Reed, Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, et all). I too thought of Tommy as a hot-dogging show-boat. THEN, a funny thing happened...I saw this clip of a Ted Talk where he explains his shows, techniques and history, plus pays immense respect to Chet, then demonstrates. However, it was at the end where he did a reading about WHY he does these things, and how he feels about we the fans. Great gratitude and a shout of inspiration at the end. I did a complete flip. There's nothing to hate about this brother! He deserves all he gets. Enjoy the ride now, and talk about it later on with your grand kids!

The way he articulates melodies is wonderful. Although I am not religious myself it seems that Christianity has helped a lot and given him an even greater drive in life and got him out of his dark period so those who complain about the fact he got into Christianity, without it we might not have him today.

There is an innate, "God-given" talent there backed-up by 57 years of intense playing. I saw him live here in Vegas in a small venue and he is the real deal, no doubt about it. Cittadella, Soave, Firenze, Legnano, Bristol, Salisbury, Sarzana, Formigine, S. Giovanni in Persiceto... Grandissimo talento e grande persona, sempre disponibile e cordiale con i fan.

I first tried my hand with a guitar at 8. I am now 68. Got a little bit better. I've not ever before Tommy heard such perfect structure and beautiful blending of music. I've seen his show twice...and each one was just a bit different. Amazing the moods and emotions he takes his audience through. Bravo!!

I've been so fortunate to live when I've lived. I had the great privilage to meet Marcel Dadi, and sat with him in my parents' back yard for an entire afternoon in 1976 watching him do his thing. He showed me how to use a thumbpick, and introduced me to the music of Chet Atkins. Of course from there I found out about Tommy Emmanuel, Jerry Reed, and all the incredible guitarists on CZcams. A great time to be a picker.

He understands all the great guitar players before him and have taken large bits of their styles.Glad to hear that he is going back to recording a solo album. Thank you for posting

Remember the movie Mozart? Mozart plays Salieri's piano piece from memory and then tweaks it and plays it much better then Salieri played it. That's Tommy Emmanuel. He'll play anybody's piece of music and make it ten times better. Somebody said on here that he was a child prodigy, well so was Mozart. Tommy is the Mozart of guitar. He is so brilliant and at the same time so much fun to watch.

I'm happy to be able to say I've seen him five years in a row in San Francisco. I've ordered my tickets for next February...I never get tired of watching him and listening to him. The fans love him and he feels the same way about his audience and that is why we keep coming back! He is awesome of course, but it is the give and take with the audience that makes his concerts magic.

Tommy, I have watched and listened to you for many years- even shook hands at Kirkmichael - I have to say you are such an inspiration and your obvious happiness when you play, brings me to tears! I fell in love with the guitar when I was about 14 years young ....now 74 years old and never put in the sheer toil you did, and I fear you love the instrument more than I do!! I will continue to watch and listen and with any luck- reincarnate as a child prodigy.....

So many TE fans here I thought I would add some thoughts. I first saw Tommy and Phil play at a tiny dim sleazy wine bar in DeeWhy in 1977. I was blown away back then. He hasn’t changed much, his base repertoire is as sharp today as it was when he was 25 (and already only 21 years into his professional career)!

This video demonstrates an amazing level of talent and taste. His arrangement and performance is Top shelf. He manages to play these songs articulated very cleanly and masterfully and the heart and soul of music shines bright.
I am a player who has worked to be able to play a bit of Jerry and Chet. Tommy makes this complex and challenging music appear easy to play. I can assure anyone who isn't a guitarist it isn't anything like easy to play at all! I give praise where it is richly deserved.

People get into these arguments about who is "the best" guitarist. In my opinion, there is no best; they all have their own strengths. I don't think I could even narrow my list down to 3 dozen favorites. A lot of times it just depends on what I'm in the mood to hear at a given time.
Tommy would be in my 3 dozen or so and so would Chet and Jerry Reed.

Yes, any true musician will tell you that none of them even think about who is 'The Best' there are talented, skilled players and they each have their own voice to add to the world - each one inspires us and reveals the beauty of god's universe, the beauty of the human soul in being able to produce music that celebrates life - music is not an Olympic event.

Tommy has taken us all to a place that up on the list. Agreed, there are hundreds of amazingly talented players. Thousands maybe. You guys all know Tommy's background and his efforts in entertainment. He is a one man band, as he says himself. And when he realized that it was just Chet playing, and not three other guys, on his recordings from the sixties, That made him take it to that next level. So I agree with most of these comments. Cool chops no doubt..

I like Tommy's playing. You can sense that he worked hard to get his fingers to move in so many ways. There's a lot of quality in his playing without losing the fun in the playing. Thanks for playing that for us Tommy. I hope to see on Copper Mountain this summer. Thank you to sidneyandherbie for putting this on YT.
