- Can we save the $1,000 Abandoned Genesis Coupe Engine? Or does it need a swap? Today we did and engine tear down on the 2.0L turbo engine to see what was going on in there.. & I TRUTHFULLY, DID NOT EXPECT what we found! It's always fun to find a surprise!

One of the things that always fascinates me is the comment section of Robbie’s videos.
It just seems like a truly positive community, and I think it largely comes from the fact that Robbie himself is so energetic in his videos and he’s actually the reason why we are watching his channel, rather than his car collections or expensive compounds.
I just don’t see the same energy in the comment section of other car youtubers, which is backed by the fact that the majority of them are pushing ‘look at my car’ type of content.
I believe Robbie’s optimism and energy are gonna make him win long term, both online and within the 4 walls of his home 🙏🏼
#StayCommited
Guy was gone for nearly a year and all of us welcomed him back like nothing happened. Indeed his vibes is not like many other car youtuber has and definitely not a show off
I honestly, reallyy appreciate and agree with you. I am myself, and I have always loved the community that brought me. Idk how I deserve you guys, but im thankful for everyone who is here and watchs❤️ only up from here, I love you guys!
@@RobbieFerreira this is why you are the best youtuber ever. weve missed you robbie :)
@@RobbieFerreira allways happy to be here!
I agree with this completely, and is the reason a let go a couple car you tubers.
I will never not comment on how excited I get when I see a new video from you posted. Hard day made better by this, thank you!
I saw a few people swap a 2JZ into one of these and I think that would be sick for this car. It's not common and you haven't done a 2JZ build before so it would be fresh and new.
I second this.
i three would love to see this ! 2jz would b sick
or rotary engine lol but everyone seems to b doing one
Honestly i think a barra swap would be even cooler
save the 2jz for a better chassis
Just remember the cost and amount of r&d it'll take to do a swap of any kind. I think a k swap would be pretty damn cool. We'll all help you figure out what you'll need when you decide
The rebuild is cheap in a 2.0t
As a ls swapped genesis owner it’s fun but kinda expensive buying a good ls engine is hard to find and i spend about $3,000 on extra parts but my car has ac heat everything u can you can probably spent less then me but you won’t have like ac heat and other stuff but it would be awesome too see you swap it to ls
My brother did a full 5.3 swap for $5k. Only problem was the wiring lol
Band saw and drill press is what you need Robbie! Loving the content, dedication, and inspiration!
If you rebuild the engine might as well do some upgrades but, I'd like to see the LS swap personally! No matter what you do I'm still gonna watch. Stay committed!
Ls swap in anything is played out everybody does it do something crazy Like 2JZ or boxer engine 🤔

Loving the videos since you’ve been back Robbie! Can’t wait to see this build evolve! Staying committed from the UK
So glad to see videos from you again. Really have been enjoying every video you’ve posted since you returned and love coming down here to see everyone who feels the same way I do. I understand you needed a break, because we all do. But I hope you see how much we all love you and your channel. Missed you man, glad to see you back. #staycommitted
Man, you give me more hope and inspiration with every video you release. Glad you're back, we love you ❤️. Stay Committed!
Ive been watching you for years at this point and i love to see the passion you put in these videos.
So happy with the consistent videos again!!!
I think a kswap would be sick, and it would be pretty cool to see how you would pull it off. Considering people ls swap cars all the time but not many people k swap cars
I so hyped to see you back! Cant wait to see you back on the grind. Much love
I'm enjoying this series a lot from someone who has had a coupe and now the sedan it's so nice to see someone working on the Geneiss and giving them love
Still so happy to see your videos popping back up in my feed!
Robbie! You're back! Welcome back committed leader. You have no idea how much I missed your vids over the last 10 or 11 months!
I missed you bro, glad to see your back on that grind been watching you for 2 years now and loved to see the progress you have made, keep up the work king🫡 👑
its always nice to see robie post again !! everytime i see a new video i get excited.
Can’t believe you’re really really back lol
Been rewatching all your vids for the third time now😅
Good to have you back
ngl suprised by the condition of the block. that being said if you do end up wanting to swap it, maybe consider a rotary. very nice streetabillity due to their smoothness, and you got plenty of space to make it work. with proper care theyre pretty reliable too. alltho not sure it would be the most cost effective swap, but hey just trhrowing out ideas! :)
This is the type of content I love watching
Thanks the lord you brought back the genesis content🔥 keep it up bro
Robbie, your video editing skills are incredible. Love watching you!
It would be cool to see a budget build using what you have and as little additional money as possible to reach a power goal
Another one from Robbie! Man you’re creativity is crazy good.
One of your shorts was recommended to me by CZcams and now I’m watching the whole series haha and subscribed the algorithm is working 😂😂 🎉
Love to see my favourite youtuber is back!❤
Money aside, I think you should rebuild the engine as it would probably be on the road the soonest, and you could enjoy the car even if it's not the big flashy swap everyone wants. You can always consider an engine swap later on. Everytime I get drive my "project" it reminds me why I want to keep the car, and leaves me with slnothing but smiles. Keep up the amazing content, really.good to see you back at it!
Im so glad your videos are back!
What I'd be really interested to see is a Rotary powered Genesis! 13b with a turbo!
You get that sweet high revving dorito goodness and i personally think they sound amazing too
Just remember to add some 2 stroke oil when you fill up at the pump, to keep those apex seals happy
Funny about the head bolts, right after you said they were torx I said "either that or triple square." Good save with the extractor.
Robbie LS the world! You’ve got experience now from the S10 doing it to the genny would absolutely be wild
I'm so glad you're enjoying all this process bro! We are as well!
Hey robbie it would be easier to just make a mount on a 2" hitch reciver on the floor and the and on your trailer so you just have to pull the pin
I was in this exact predicament once. Decide to LS swap it. Would love to see your channel do an LS swap. I'm still in the parts gathering process. The engine resides in the car however that's about it. About to have to take a year off from working on it. Be a good year to watch you build one before getting back into it!
been waiting man !!
I seen a comment on here about a 2JZ and I'm fully on board with that swap. That would be a mean machine at that point. Plus you already k swapped and ls swapped. Also welcome back. Good to see you making content again
Just found your channel love the local content great videos
This year is going to be great with you back!!!
Finally caught up video wise and can I say just how damn happy I am that you’re back😌
i am so happy to see you back, is there coming a video on the s10 if you still have it?
Great videos since you came back Robbie!
Lookin’ good…I was gonna suggest grabbing a few snatch blocks to help out with the winching say of a car is in an awkward position…they’re super handy
Loving the videos you’ve been putting out recently, I think a 1uz swap would be sick. Keep up the great content
Motivated me to start my project I’m def gone give it some gas thx bro !!
ROBBIE IS BACK🔥
Really appreciate the videos keep it up👍
I’ve done an ls swap in my genesis, no manual trans, I swapped a big boy 6l80e into it, you gotta do a little bit of modification to the trans tunnel but the motor fits flawlessly
So glad that you are back. Best regards from Denmark 🇩🇰
Hear me out Robbie, back in BC the dream of a mid engine LS S10 was in the mix but that soon faded because it was a completely new thing that no one had ever done so road blocks were a huge factor and made it a discouraging project now in Ontario a regular LS swapped S10 was in the making but we never saw the finished product! A LS swapped genesis something that has been done and is something that we would love to watch and see the final product, but on that note to follow your mantra of being a CZcamsr to makes the most realistic real life content. Simply rebuilding the stock genesis motor is something people like me can relate to and still be a fun project that can go so many different ways.
Hey Robbie! We intend on K swapping our 2013 2.0T R-Spec between later this year and early next year. We're waiting on getting the car back from the body shop at the moment since it was rear ended in traffic. Once we get the car we'll be doing a teardown (timing skipped and spun a rod bearing shortly after rear-end accident), and we'll be picking up a K series and running mock-ups for parts to machine! We intend to keep it budget friendly and keep full function of the car (AC, Dash, etc.) so others can start doing K series swaps as easily as LS swaps.
i feel like cus im canadian im biased, but robbie is my favorite car guy on youtube, i aspire to have cars in my garage like this man💯
Here we go again gotta watch Robbie while at work 🤣🤣🤣
I clicked so hard I broke my thumb. 😅 So pumped to have Robbie back. I’ll say it every video for the next 10 years.
Perfect way to start the morning!
As a genny owner myself that plans on doing a 2j or LS swap if anything in my powertrain goes out, I'm excited to follow your process on this build. You've gotten yourself a subscriber!
Always so positive dude love it, wish we had more people like you here in Salem Oregon would be nice
Solid video man
So stoked for the new video! Watching from the doctors office!
Ontario native here! Just like you mentioned before, the Kia/Hyundai cars don't get as much love as they deserve. I would personally love to see you rebuild the Theta, seeing as I'm going to build my Gamma, but the LS swap would make that thing rowdy.
That being said, if you do LS swap this one, wouldn't it make more sense to have this be the drift Genny instead of your other one? Just a thought. Keep it up yah beauty
I know this is a bit old at this point but a few words of wisdom for the future:
Don't use a security torx on a non-security torx bolt, the hollow center can cause the socket to crack which might cause you to round out the torx bolt.
Secondly, when you flipped the head and the valve buckets popped out, try to avoid this in the future, when valve buckets are manufactured they're manufactured to the specs and height of the valve and backside of the cam lobe, some are not perfect and they will make up the difference with different valve bucket thicknesses so the valve buckets are specific to each valve. I've seen a lot of guys do this on Subaru engines, they'll pull the cams and POP the valve buckets fly out because the head is sitting sideways. You're just creating a bigger headache for yourself in the future when throwing the engine back together, even if you planned to replace the buckets with new ones if they're worn it still would have helped to know the size and clearance of each bucket where it sat so you don't have to do any guess work.
Other than my own disdain for all Korean cars being throwaway crap I enjoy your content, keep it up.
So excited about this genesis restoration series tbh
i never thought about an LS swap for that car, but now that you mention it, that would be sick!!
Hey Robbie, one suggestion for the winch the the garage. You don’t need 2, you can just snatch block off the single winch to the other side!
I second the 2JZ swap idea new engine to the channel, and would be absolutely epic in the Genesis. Glad to see ya back can't wait to see more content from this car and the subie.
So excited to watch this build! I have a 2010 3.8 and im gonna supercharge it lol.
Your old cars that you fixed ❤.Can’t believe you would still keep them 😊
Watched the full video...really interesting stuff...crazy though how many parts there are just to make a working engine...😱😁
How hard was it to remove turbo manifold? I got a new one and have been dreading putting it in because the bolts look hard to get at
im at a point in the vid where one wheel wasnt broken loose, however for my car when the hand brake freezes on if i jump up and down in the car itll usually break loose then so that may help you if its even still stuck
Stoked you’re doing another genny. I own one and love it.
Would personally say for longevity go for the ls swap. The sikky swap kit is like 2 grand for everything you need to mount the ls. The reliability and power you could put into it vrs rebuild is insane. You’ll only get 500 ish on a stock 2.0 with some minor upgrades.
Glad you’re back!
So good to see you back on a regularly base mate
So sick to see the genny get some love. I’ve owned one for years and recently started trying to get it looking good again
I love the content bro especially now that you got a new Hyundai genesis coupe 🔥🔥
I didn't realize how much I missed Robbie content
bros videos come out so fast, just came back and hes already grinding
Plasma cutter is definitely quicker, but not clean in any way. Bandsaw is probably the least messy. Good to see you back. Stay committed
Seeing the notification that you posted made my day
The fact Courtney is more involved in videos gives a whole new vibe to the video😍
Plasma cutters are sick. Work so nice
Robbie making wednesday a great day❤️🔥
Yehey new video thank ypu robbie greeting from the philippines 😊
I can genuinely say I wouldn’t even be stoked to see an ls swap on the genny. And I love LS swaps. Big turbo genny resto build ftw. Maybe even the kswap idea
How about a twin turbo 2JZ swap, could be fun, but all up to you Robbie, thanks for the good content and great advice. #STAYCOMMITTED
Bro forgot about the hotdog interior glad to see the content again been great keep up the good work brother
I think my favourite part of this is seeing another Canadian CZcamsr other than myself using Rigid power tools 😅 lifetime warranty baby. Love the videos Robbie 🤙🏼
So happy everything looks to be on a positive note with the genises ... i think rebuilding the engine is a good choice and instead of an ls swap id say send it and do a kswap would be awsome to see it done and the fun of fabricateing for a custom swap is always exciting
Rebuild the current motor and put a bigger turbo on with injectors, fuel pump and a full exhaust w/ a tune!!
Honestly, I'd be more interested in a factory engine swap over an LS or K-swap. Maybe a 3.8L Turbo build? Or a newer 2.0 big turbo build. Thoughts?
11:08 what are the 2 bolt studs that go from the exhaust manifold to the back part where the turbo goes onto. I can’t find those studs anywhere and I think they are M10 1.25 but I can’t find them. I’m replacing my stock turbo that blows white smoke out my exhaust for an upgraded turbo. Please help 😢
Hey Robbie not sure if your going to see this. I'm an owner of a 2012 Genesis coupe with about 143,000 miles. Its an Automatic 2.0T like the one you are currently working on. Although the car doesn't have any current issues that I know of, I was hoping you could suggest some things to check for regular maintenance when these cars reach high miles. Thank you and im glad I found this series
Little tip for the stuck rear wheels heat up the rear brake and just whack it with a mallet repeatedly. Happens to all genesis coupes after they sit a long time it’s just the e brake getting seized to the drum
Buddy of mine has severe engine knock from the bearings on his BK2, so he's in the process of rebuilding the engine. He's gonna go a step further and aside from the engine rebuild took the turbo for rebuild/upgrade to a bigger billet compressor wheel and turbine wheel and porting which is apparently a common upgrade for 330-360WHP with water/meth injection which isn't bad for minimum effort(if you didn't have to rebuild your engine of course).
It'd be cool if you went K series since nobody has done it to our knowledge. But LS is cool too
Being a previous bk1 owner the platform itself is great. The stock motor was based off a evo8 & is extremely mod friendly. Needs good internals & you can run over 400whp. Uniq Performance in Mississauga is the go to for parts & tuning
Evo X* & it's more like the ralliart engine
I just spent about 6 grand rebuilding a theta 2 on my 2013 acl bearings rod and main, k1 rods and Manley piston gonna start it this weekend, best of luck to you
PLEASE K SWAP IT! This is the most genuine idea I've heard ever.
I think it would be sick with a barra swap!
I think getting a plasma table would make a lot of sense if you have somewhere to put it. If you look at gingium, his work flow got waaay more streamlined after getting a plasma router.
Glad you’re back and happy. I’m excited to see what build you’re gonna put into this gen. I currently drive a 3.8 gen. I’ve got an isr cat back dual exhaust and some cheap eBay tail lights but I understand the feeling of falling out. I still love cars but life is also important. Planning on getting married soon and I’ll have to put cars on hold for a while. Maybe what you do to your gen could be an idea for mines. Keep at it and keep doing what makes you happy
